Stop Looking for Customers. Start Building Champions. Why the Best Businesses Grow One Relationship at a Time What would you rather have? 100 customers... or... 10 people who can't stop telling other people about your business? That's the question behind this week's episode of Something to Smile About Small Business Saturday. Entrepreneurs spend enormous amounts of time, energy and money looking for the next lead. More followers. More clicks. More appointments. More prospects. But there's another growth engine sitting right in front of us: Champions. Customers buy from you. Champions believe in you. Customers create transactions. Champions create introductions. And sometimes one champion can open doors that hundreds of cold leads never could. In this episode, Johnny Juan Ortiz explores how Christian entrepreneurs can intentionally move beyond simply acquiring customers and begin creating relationships strong enough to produce referrals, advocates and long-term business opportunities. THE BIG IDEA Customers buy once. Champions bring others with them. Instead of asking only: "How can I close this person?" Start asking: "How can I serve this person so well that they're excited to tell someone else?" That's a completely different business philosophy. And it changes everything from customer service to follow-up, networking, sales and leadership. FROM TRANSACTIONS TO RELATIONAL EQUITY The sale isn't necessarily the finish line. It's often the starting line. Great businesses continue investing in relationships after the transaction. That might mean: Remembering important milestones. Celebrating a client's success. Making an introduction. Checking in without trying to sell something. Sharing a useful resource. Following up months later. Being present when there's absolutely nothing to gain. Those deposits create what Johnny calls: Relational Equity. And eventually, relational equity produces something advertising cannot manufacture: Trust. BECOME WORTH RECOMMENDING Here's one of the uncomfortable questions from this episode: Would your customers enthusiastically recommend you if you weren't standing there? That's worth thinking about. Because referral-based businesses aren't simply built by asking for referrals. They're built by creating something worth referring. Your service. Your communication. Your results. Your character. Your follow-up. Your experience. Your consistency. All of it becomes part of the story someone tells about you. THE KINGDOM PRINCIPLE Jesus taught in Luke 6:38: "Give, and it will be given to you..." For the Christian entrepreneur, relationships shouldn't become another manipulation strategy. People aren't prospects with heartbeats. People matter. We serve first. We contribute. We connect. We help. And when business grows from those relationships, we're building from a foundation of trust rather than extraction. SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT THE KINGDOM INFLUENCE SERIES IS COMING This episode also marks the beginning of something bigger. Over the next eight weeks, Something to Smile About Small Business Saturday will take Christian entrepreneurs through: THE KINGDOM INFLUENCE SERIES An eight-part journey designed to answer a bigger question: How do you build meaningful influence without losing who God created you to be? We're going beyond motivational content. We're going to explore the progression from discovering your calling to ultimately creating an impact that outlives your business. THE 8-WEEK JOURNEY WEEK 1: CALLING Find Your Voice Before the marketplace recognizes your message, you need clarity about what you're called to say and who you're called to serve. WEEK 2: COURAGE Find Your Freedom Knowing your calling isn't enough. Eventually you have to step out, speak up and stop allowing fear to make business decisions for you. WEEK 3: FAITH Kill the Giant What if the obstacle in front of you is actually revealing what God has already developed inside you? WEEK 4: RELATIONSHIPS The Power of WHO Stop trying to build everything alone. Your next opportunity may begin with someone you already know. WEEK 5: OPPORTUNITY Look for the Opportunity Learn to recognize doors, conversations and possibilities others walk right past. WEEK 6: INFLUENCE Build Champions, Not Customers Create relationships and experiences people naturally want to talk about. WEEK 7: REPUTATION Become the Person People Recommend What does your name mean when you're not in the room? And finally... WEEK 8: LEGACY Build Something Bigger Than Your Business Revenue matters. Growth matters. Success matters. But eventually every entrepreneur faces a bigger question: What will remain because I was here? That's where we're headed. WHY CHRISTIAN ENTREPRENEURS SHOULD FOLLOW THIS SERIES Because there is a dangerous temptation in entrepreneurship. We can become so obsessed with building the thing... that we forget God may also be using the thing to build us. More followers don't automatically mean more influence. More revenue doesn't automatically mean greater impact. And a bigger platform doesn't automatically mean you're prepared to steward it. That's why this journey begins with Calling... and ends with Legacy. Everything in between is about becoming the person capable of carrying what you're praying for. WANT MORE THAN THE PODCAST? Here's where things get interesting. You can absolutely follow the next eight weeks for free. I hope you do. But maybe while listening, something starts bothering you. You begin thinking: "I know I'm called to more." "I have experience, but I'm not positioned." "I know people, but I'm not activating those relationships." "I'm working hard, but my influence isn't growing." "I need somebody to help me connect these dots." Good. Don't ignore that. I'm opening a limited number of complimentary Christian Entrepreneur Strategy Sessions during the Kingdom Influence Series. We'll look at where you are... where you're trying to go... what may be holding you back... and what your next faithful business move could be. DM: KINGDOM and let's schedule a conversation. No pressure to become a client. But be warned. We may discover you've been sitting closer to your next breakthrough than you realized.
