Why AI Won’t Replace Contractors—But It Will Change How They Work - Weston from SynkedUP

Artificial intelligence is changing the landscape industry faster than many realize. In this episode of SYNKD On Air, Angelique Robb sits down with Weston Zimmerman, co-founder of SynkedUP, to explore how AI is moving beyond simple chat tools and becoming a practical business partner for contractors. Weston shares what he's seeing from landscape companies across the country, from business owners just beginning to experiment with AI to those already using it to automate estimating, scheduling, data analysis, and customer communication. Together, they discuss how better data collection can reduce costly estimating mistakes, improve profitability, and free owners from the administrative tasks that often pull them away from the work they love. The conversation also tackles AI's role in design, the importance of keeping humans in the loop, and why the future of software may feel less like learning a system and more like having a conversation. If you've been wondering how AI can help your business become more efficient without losing the human touch, this episode offers a practical look at what's coming next. Key Takeaways: How AI is transforming estimating and job costingWhy data collection is the foundation of smarter businessesThe future of AI-powered scheduling and operationsWhere AI fits—and doesn't fit—in landscape designHow contractors can prepare now for the next wave of technology adoption https://synkedup.com/

Utah Wildflower Co uses AI to streamline design process and inspire clients

In this episode of SYNKD On Air, host Angelique Robb sits down with Rodrigo Vega, owner of Utah Wildflower Company, and Luis Benavides, founder of NeighborBrite, to explore how AI is transforming the landscape design and sales process. USE code SYNKD to save 10% on your membership to neighborbrite! Rodrigo Vega has built his business around xeriscaping, shifting from traditional landscaping after a major drought in Utah. His mission is clear: reimagine outdoor spaces to be both water-efficient and visually compelling, challenging the misconception that sustainable landscapes require compromise. The conversation centers on how AI-powered tools are helping Rodrigo: Visualize designs in real time with clients, making abstract ideas tangible and improving client confidenceStreamline quoting and estimating, reducing hours of manual work across multiple tools into a single workflowCreate new revenue streams, such as paid design consultations for homeowners who want guidance without full-service installsScale his business more efficiently, freeing up time while maintaining accuracy and consistencyWhat started as a simple visualization tool has evolved into a comprehensive platform—integrating design, material takeoffs, pricing, and estimates—cutting quote times dramatically and reducing friction in the sales process. Beyond efficiency, Rodrigo highlights a bigger purpose: in drought-prone regions, water-efficient landscaping isn’t just a service—it’s a responsibility. By leveraging AI, his company can move faster, serve more clients, and play a larger role in addressing environmental challenges. The episode ultimately reframes AI not as a replacement for expertise, but as a tool that: Enhances collaborationReduces burnoutEmpowers business owners to focus on growth and impactAs Rodrigo puts it, this is just the beginning—both for AI in the industry and for how landscape professionals can lead more meaningful, resource-conscious conversations with their clients. https://www.utahwildflowercompany.com/ https://neighborbrite.com/ USE code SYNKD to save 10% on your membership to neighborbrite!

Earth Day - A bioherbicide that works! With more great news...

What if the tools we rely on every day in landscaping could evolve—without sacrificing performance? In this Earth Day episode of SYNKD On Air, Angelique sits down with Kathleen Hallal of Firehawk Bioherbicide to explore exactly that question—and the answer might surprise you. Kathleen’s journey didn’t start in a lab—it started as a parent asking tough questions. After hearing firsthand accounts from farmers about the potential impacts of conventional herbicides, she set out on a decade-long search for a better solution. What she found is now reshaping conversations across the industry: a bioherbicide that delivers high performance without conventional chemical ingredients, and is already being used by universities, municipalities, and landscapers nationwide. This episode goes beyond product talk. It dives into the real tension landscape professionals face every day—balancing efficiency, cost, and environmental responsibility. From soil health and water usage to the future of regenerative practices, the conversation highlights a broader shift happening across design, build, and maintenance. It’s not just about killing weeds—it’s about rethinking how every decision impacts the ecosystem as a whole. If you’ve ever wondered whether sustainability and performance can truly coexist in your day-to-day operations, this is a conversation worth tuning into. Stop Selling Landscaping. Start Selling the Experience. CLC + Coastal Source partnership

On a coastal property designed for entertaining - on Rehoboth Bay, every detail—from sightlines to sound—was considered from the start. This episode explores how thoughtful integration of lighting and audio creates seamless, high-end environments that clients never want to leave. What truly sets this project apart isn’t just the design—it’s the partnership behind it. Jerry Dougherty of Country Lawn Care and Maintenance and Kevin Minton of Coastal Source aren’t operating in a typical contractor–vendor relationship. What they’ve built is a collaborative extension of each other’s businesses, where product, design, and execution are aligned from day one. From the earliest stages of the project, Kevin was involved not just as a supplier, but as a strategic partner—advising on layout, fixture selection, and how lighting would support the overall experience of the space. That level of involvement allowed Jerry to design with confidence, knowing the systems specified would perform exactly as intended, both aesthetically and operationally. For Jerry, that confidence translates directly into how he sells. He’s not presenting lighting as an optional upgrade—he’s delivering a fully integrated solution backed by a partner he trusts. And that trust is critical. As he explains, by the time this client reached their fourth home, the conversation shifted from “what should we use?” to “Jerry, we trust you—just tell us what’s right.” On the Coastal Source side, the approach is equally intentional. Rather than scaling through volume, Kevin emphasizes selective partnerships—working with contractors who prioritize quality, education, and long-term client relationships. That means training, ongoing support, and shared accountability for the final result. The impact of that partnership goes far beyond lighting. It reduces risk, minimizes callbacks, and elevates the contractor’s reputation—ultimately opening doors to additional scopes of work and deeper client relationships. In this case, it even led to Jerry being trusted to oversee elements outside his core offering. This is the real takeaway: When product and contractor operate as one unified system, the result isn’t just a better project—it’s a better business.

Award-winning Natura Gardens: A lesson in preserving and making the wetlands center stage

Designing With Nature: How Collaboration and Ecology Shape Community at Natura Gardens In this episode of SYNKD On Air, host Angelique Robb sits down with Jenifer Bar-Nur, co-founder of Landscape Design Workshop, to unpack the award-winning Natura Gardens project in South Florida. The result is a space where residents don’t just live near nature—they experience it every day. From amenity placement to native planting strategies and culturally inspired design elements, this conversation dives into how collaboration across disciplines can elevate both environmental performance and human experience.
