    THE TENNEY BREAKDOWN: MAYBE THIS IS WHY MY OPPONENT WON’T DEBATE ME.Yesterday, Claudia Tenney walked onto that debate stage with all the advantages of power, privilege, and incumbency.Then Alissa Ellman stood up to her.Every time Claudia tried to attack her or talk down to her, Alissa leaned into it. She didn’t shrink. She pushed right back.And I loved it.I AM SO PROUD OF ALISSA ELLMAN.It also made me think about my own opponent refusing to debate me.Maybe she’s afraid of THE TENNEY BREAKDOWN—that moment when the mailers and commercials disappear, you’re standing on a stage in front of the public, and suddenly you have to defend your record and answer the person standing across from you.No handlers. No hiding.Just two candidates and the questions.

Watching someone without all the advantages of entrenched political power step onto that stage and speak for ordinary people was powerful.I was proud of her. Whatever your politics, that takes guts.We talk about the moments that stood out to us, the difference between ordinary people seeking office and the advantages that come with years of political power, and why debates matter in a democracy.And, naturally, that brings me back home.My opponent still won’t debate me.So we ask a pretty simple question: WHY NOT?If I’m supposedly so wrong about everything, come make that case. You see her at controlled events and fundraisers, but where is she out answering questions from ordinary voters?Instead, voters are seeing expensive television commercials during NFL games, piles of mailers and attack ads against me.But Becky has been in county government for years. She has been Chair of the Niagara County Legislature for nearly a decade. At this point, shouldn’t the campaign be about her record?What is the signature accomplishment? What is the big thing she can point to after all those years in power and say, “I did that”?And most importantly: Why won’t she debate?This is exactly what frustrates people about machine politics. Someone spends years inside the system, moves up through the system, raises enormous amounts of money—and then asks for another promotion without standing in front of voters and defending the record.Forget the commercials.     AFTER NEARLY 10 YEARS IN POWER, WHAT IS BECKY WIDYSH’S LEGACY?You see the commercials everywhere. They are spending a fortune. And what do the commercials tell us? Becky Widysh is a good mom and she supports the police. Great. I’m a good dad. I support good police officers too. But after nearly 10 years at the top of Niagara County government, is that really the entire case for another office?What is the signature accomplishment? Where was the leadership when radioactive contamination became an issue in Niagara County? Why was contaminated property being marketed for development? We have already lived through a history in which dangerous land was commercialized while families were left without the information they deserved. We cannot repeat it.Becky also touts her work leading the county’s opioid response. Then answer the questions about the millions of dollars in opioid funding. Where did the money go? What was spent? What remains? What measurable results did taxpayers get?And then there’s the simplest question of all: Why won’t she debate me? St. Joe’s wanted a debate. The Niagara Gazette wanted a debate. I want a debate. She won’t do it.Meanwhile, I have earned support from teachers, Niagara Falls firefighters, painters, electricians, CSEA, the Western New York AFL-CIO and other working people across this district. I knock on doors. I go into neighborhoods. I meet people who agree with me and people who absolutely don’t. That’s campaigning.Where is Becky? Her campaign seems almost entirely built around television commercials, mailers, attack ads and carefully controlled appearances. I’ve never seen a campaign this lifeless.After nearly 10 years in power, you shouldn’t need a commercial to tell people what you accomplished.     NATE CAST — FRIDAY, OCTOBER 16, 2026 BECKY WIDYSH WON’T DEBATE. SHE BARELY CAMPAIGNS. SHE JUST RUNS ATTACK ADS. I have never seen a campaign quite like this. Becky Widysh has been one of the most powerful officials in Niagara County for nearly a decade. Now she wants to represent us in Albany—but she won’t stand on a stage with me and defend her record. St. Joe’s asked her to debate. The Niagara Gazette asked her to debate. She won’t do it. Meanwhile, the UAW, teachers, firefighters, CSEA, the Western New York AFL-CIO, and other working people and unions have endorsed me. These are people who know this community and expect their representatives to actually show up. Instead of debating, Becky’s campaign seems built around one thing: money—commercials, mailers and attack ads. It reminds me of what we’re seeing in Texas, on a much bigger scale: enormous money pouring into politics while candidates mock James Talarico and attack him—but seem awfully reluctant to get on a stage and actually debate him. You can call your opponent names. You can buy commercials. You can fill mailboxes. But eventually you have to answer a simple question: WHAT DID YOU DO WITH THE POWER YOU ALREADY HAD? Becky has had nearly a decade at the top of Niagara County government. It’s time to debate. We talk about that and a lot more on today’s NATE CAST. If Democrats win a majority in the Niagara County Legislature, JEFF ELDER COULD BECOME CHAIRMAN OF THE NIAGARA COUNTY LEGISLATURE. And here’s what makes that so significant: NIAGARA FALLS HAS NOT HAD A CHAIRMAN OF THE COUNTY LEGISLATURE FROM NIAGARA FALLS IN DECADES. Think about that. One of the largest and most important communities in Niagara County has gone decades without one of its own residents leading the Legislature. Jeff Elder is currently the minority leader. A change in the majority could mean something Niagara Falls hasn’t seen in generations: A CHAIRMAN FROM NIAGARA FALLS. For a city that has so often felt ignored by county government, that would represent a major change in who has a voice in county leadership. IT’S TIME FOR NIAGARA FALLS TO HAVE REAL REPRESENTATION IN LOCKPORT AGAIN.

    PODCAST CLIP: WHERE IS THE OUTRAGE AT THE EPA? WHERE IS LEE ZELDIN??????? You think the Republican Party suddenly cares about the environment? YOU MUST HAVE BEEN IN A CRYOGENIC STATE FOR THE LAST CENTURY. Then where is the outrage at the federal government? Where is the outrage at the EPA? You can scream about Kathy Hochul all day long. Fine. Hold her accountable. BUT HOLD EVERYBODY ACCOUNTABLE. Where was the outrage when radioactive land was being marketed for development? Where was the outrage over Love Canal? Where was the outrage toward the county officials who had responsibility here? And now Republicans control the federal government. LEE ZELDIN RUNS THE EPA. So stop pretending Albany is the only place with power. THE EPA HAS REAL POWER. FEDERAL POWER. SUPERFUND POWER. If you genuinely care about Niagara Falls and these families, then demand that the EPA use that power. WHERE IS THAT OUTRAGE?
