It Takes a Village Podcast is a place for all things parenting in the modern world. Bar and Mina bring their parenting experience, educational backgrounds, research, and their personal anecdotes of what it’s like to raise children in the modern day world; one they’ve found is lacking the proverbial village they thought they would have. Some topics include loss of generational input, discipline, parental burnout and raising self-confident children. Two friends who became mothers together, during the global pandemic of 2020 and are now raising their-almost six- children together in Toronto.

    Loss of Generational Input

    As the world becomes smaller and more connected, our communities continue to evolve into a blend of cultures with more families living farther apart from one another.  Our modern world demands a lifestyle that is different than what we may have been raised with. Distance, working grandparents, and limited or no contact with extended families are just some of the reasons we notice a growing trend of less extended family involvement in the raising of our children and it begs the question— what are we and our children missing out on? In this episode, Mina and Bar dive deeper into their personal upbringings, discuss how dramatically different the rearing of their own children is and try to navigate the sense of familial loss they feel in their parenting journey.

    Introduction- Mina & Bar

    Bar works with children and parents in mental health. Primarily with young children on the autism spectrum, children with learning disabilities, teaching emotional regulation and self regulation to both parents and children. She is also a yoga teacher with special training in prenatal and postpartum yoga.  Bar uses mindfulness, CBT and yoga in her work with children.  Mina is a kindergarten teacher. She is passionate about early childhood development, literacy and creating community.
