Deprescribing #112, Muneeza, Reverse Chronic Disease and Ditch the Meds

Our guest today is Muneeza Ahmed, the Intuitive Medicine Woman® and creator of the Muneeza Method®—a powerful approach she developed over 18 years of practice working with thousands of clients around the world. Muneeza has supported more than 12,000 people in over 86 countries, helping them better understand their bodies, their symptoms, and their unique needs on their healing journeys. Her work incorporates herbs, supplements, healing and wild foods, and an understanding of the emotional experiences and trauma that can be carried in the body. Muneeza describes having an intuitive gift that allows her to "read" people and identify what she believes are the root causes behind illness and symptoms. She combines that intuition with information from Medical Medium®, which she uses in her practice to support people dealing with chronic and autoimmune conditions. Her calling to become a medicine woman began when she was a young girl. Healing has been part of her family history as well—her grandfather was a homeopath and her grandmother was a botanist. Muneeza has spent decades exploring natural approaches to health and developing her own intuitive healing techniques. She also brings a deeply personal perspective to this work. From childhood, Muneeza experienced numerous health challenges, including asthma, allergies, tuberculosis, multiple chemical sensitivities, eczema, acne, neurological Lyme disease, migraines, IBS, and bloating. After struggling to find answers through the conventional medical system, a book about inflammation and a change in her diet in 2005 helped transform her health journey and sparked a lifelong commitment to learning about healing. Muneeza is also the author of Healing Chutneys & Sauces, a recipe book soon to be released on Amazon. If you've ever felt frustrated by unanswered health questions, been told that your symptoms have no known cause or cure, or simply felt that there must be another way to understand your body, you'll want to hear what Muneeza has to say. Please welcome Muneeza Ahmed, the Intuitive Medicine Woman®. ********************************************************We are doing a weekly Deprescribing class to help people find better solutions for their health. We have weekly topics or guest speakers.Join live on Mondays at 11AM PT / 2PM ESTDeprescribing: to taper or stop medications with the intention to achieve improved health outcomes.Sign up to receive the zoom link and announcements at https://www.DeprescribingPharmacist.orgOr watch the recordings here on bitchute. https://www.bitchute.com/DePrescribingpharmacistJoin our facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/DeprescribingPharmacist/Dr Leyla Ali is a pharmacist and author of: Off Balance, the American Way of Health, A Pharmacist’s Perspective on Why Drugs Don’t Work. and The So You’ve been Diagnosed with Cancer and now You’re in a Panic Handbook, an Overview of Options.Available on amazon or on her website:website: www.DeprescribingPharmacist.orgcontact: Leyla@DeprescribingPharmacist.org

Deprescribing #110, Beth Koenig, When Autism Doesn't Speak

When Autism Doesn't Speak: Rethinking Behavior, Communication, and Medication, Beth Koenig Many autistic individuals who are nonverbal or have childhood apraxia of speech are misunderstood. (Apraxia is a neurological condition where a person has difficulty planning and carrying out purposeful movements, even though they may have the strength, understanding, and desire to do the movement.) Behaviors are often treated as problems instead of attempts to communicate, and medications may be prescribed without addressing the underlying challenges. Beth Koenig is joining Deprescribing for the second time to share her perspective on nonverbal autism, apraxia, communication barriers, and why understanding the "why" behind behaviors is essential. Together, we explore how better assessment, appropriate supports, and a deeper understanding of autism can reduce unnecessary medication while improving quality of life for autistic individuals and their families. ******************************************************** We are doing a weekly Deprescribing class to help people find better solutions for their health.

Deprescribing #109 Deprescribing Review and DIscussion

I've been thinking lately about how grateful I am to have learned about so many different healing modalities and treatment options that exist outside of mainstream medicine. Simply taking the time to learn about these approaches can literally save you months—or even years—of suffering. It can help you discover small steps that make a big difference in your health and, in some cases, even help keep you out of the hospital. We've heard stories from people who suffered for years before finding a path to healing. Many of these options are things you'll likely never hear about during a typical visit with your medical doctor. Looking back on my own health journey, I truly believe that discovering these different approaches has helped me stay healthy and prevent what could have become long-term chronic conditions. I'm incredibly grateful to have found information that has been both empowering and healing. The reality is that many people live with chronic health conditions for years simply because they aren't aware of all the options available to them. We've all heard stories of people who: Suffered in pain for years, even though there were effective ways to address the root cause. Were dismissed and told, "It's all in your head," only to leave with a prescription for Prozac. Felt exhausted, sick, and miserable, only to hear, "Your labs look great! There's nothing wrong with you." Were told they would need to take medication for the rest of their lives. Were told their condition was incurable. This week, I'll discuss an overview of the treatment options and healing approaches we've explored over the past few years on Deprescribing. I'd like to revisit some of these conditions, explore alternative approaches that have helped others, and reflect on the stories shared by the incredible guests we've had on the show. Their experiences remind us that healing isn't always a straight line and that there is often more than one path forward. We'll also compare how common health conditions are treated in Western medicine versus other approaches to healing. Let's have an open discussion. I'd love to hear your thoughts, ideas, and experiences. The more we share what we've learned, the more we empower one another to make informed decisions about our health.

Deprescribing #108 My Knees, The Journey

My family has a history of knee replacements. My mom, her brother, and her sister have all had both knees replaced, so I've been paying attention to my own knee health for a long time. I always thought that gradually walking a little crooked or having increasing knee pain was just a normal part of aging and "wear and tear." Last year, I injured the muscle on the inside of my knee while working out and ended up limping for several months. Then I tried jumping rope and reinjured it, which eventually required physical therapy. Then I injured my other knee as well. Two weeks ago, I played pickleball, and the next day both of my knees were a mess. I was in significant pain and could only walk comfortably at certain angles. It honestly felt like I had stomped out or destroyed whatever cartilage I had left. It felt like my knees had turned a corner and reached a whole new level of dysfunction. I started thinking about where this path could lead—mobility becomes more and more limited, worsening pain, walking crooked, and eventually knee replacement surgery, just like other members of my family. The standard, recommended treatment is meds, meds, meds and eventually surgery. Fortunately, as a Deprescribing pharmacist, I know there are other options to explore. Join me on Monday to learn how I treated my knees and steps to avoid the surgery. ******************************************************** We are doing a weekly Deprescribing class to help people find better solutions for their health. Deprescribing #107 Frank Ferrante, May I Be Frank

For Deprescribing this week, our guest is Frank Ferrante, Frank is a dynamic international speaker, author, and advocate known for his transformative journey of healing and self-discovery. He created a documentary called May I Be Frank, in 2010 which shares his journey of transformation.  In his movie, Frank Ferrante is 54, weighs 290lbs., had a lifetime of drug & alcohol abuse and as a result contracted Hepatitis-C. He's on multiple medications including anti-depressants, undergoing chemo and drinks 10 espressos a day to stay awake. One day Frank stumbles into Cafe Gratitude, a Raw food café in San Francisco, and meets Ryland, the café's manager. Ryland asks Frank, what is one thing you'd like to do before you die? Frank answers 'I want to fall in love one more time, but with a body like this, no one will love me, because i don't love myself.' Watch as Ryland, his brother Cary and best friend Conor, help Frank take on his weight, health, relationships and loving himself in just 42 days. Frank is also featured in the Chapter 12 interview of my book, Off Balance: The American Way of Health—A Pharmacist's Perspective on Why Drugs Don't Work. Frank's story is truly inspiring. He is one of the most open, honest, authentic, and entertaining people you'll ever meet—blunt, vulnerable, funny, and sometimes a little crude, all at the same time. His health and life changed dramatically in a short period, showing what can happen when someone has the right support, guidance, and commitment to change. For Deprescribing he will share his journey, what he learned, and what’s happened in his life since the documentary. ******************************************************** We are doing a weekly Deprescribing class to help people find better solutions for their health.
