Chronic Chaos: A Mother’s Story of Catastrophic Loss and Finding Joy Again

In this episode of ChangeHER, I sit down with Ann Marie Farino, author of Chronic Chaos, for a heartfelt conversation about love, loss, and the quiet ways we’re held through it all. Ann Marie reminds us that none of us is ever truly alone, because love is unstoppable and someone, somewhere is always holding us in it. She also shares practical wisdom for showing up when someone is grieving: say “I’m sorry,” then stop talking and take action, whether that’s sending a card, dropping off a meal, or simply sitting with them while they feel what they feel. We also talk about “nudges,” those sudden, unexpected, beautiful moments that remind us we are loved and that our lives are worth living. Tune in for a conversation that will leave you comforted, inspired, and ready to love the people around you a little more boldly. Ann Marie Farino speaks to audiences of all ages about addiction, suicide, grief, and the countless small moments that remind us we are not alone. In June 2016, her eldest son, Richard, died by suicide after years of struggling with his mental health and addiction. Rather than let that loss define her, Farino has built a second calling: helping other families find their way back to hope, humor, and joy after profound loss. Discussing grief and the long road toward finding joy again — has become her purpose. Farino works with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s Speaker Program, presenting “Talk Saves Lives” to community audiences. A longtime philanthropist, she has supported organizations including the Illinois Club for Catholic Women, the Loving Outreach to Survivors of Suicide project of Chicago, and Loyola University. Before turning to advocacy and writing, she built a career as a professional interior designer and real estate broker. Farino divides her time between homes in the Chicago area and South Florida. Real Talk with the Hormonal Hangover Society

Midlife conversations don’t always have to come with a clipboard and a serious face. In this episode, we talk about why women are craving honest, real talk about midlife that doesn’t feel clinical or heavy, and why a good laugh might be the most underrated tool we have. Humor helps us recognize ourselves, open up, and remember the most important thing of all: we are not alone. The Hormonal Hangover Society started with an idea, a shared sense of humor, and no fully mapped-out plan. Along the way, we’ve made decisions, changed our minds, and second-guessed ourselves plenty. What we’re learning is that nobody has it all figured out, and success doesn’t have one fixed definition. Some days it means taking the next step. Other days it means pausing long enough to appreciate what we’ve already built. It’s an exciting time for women’s health, with conversations growing and evolving for the next generation, and we love being part of it in our own small way. Tune in for laughs, honesty, and a little reminder that it’s okay to feel settled in the unsettled, even when the algorithm never sleeps. Jen Cote and Margaret Houghton Honda, friends since middle school, are the coauthors of The Hormonal Hangover Society: New Member Welcome Book and cofounders of your favorite society that you never asked to join. Their humor-forward book offers the heads-up they wish they had about perimenopause and menopause. It is part group chat, part pep talk, with a healthy dose of sass. Together, the book and Society deliver midlife laughs, helpful tips, much-needed connection, and, most importantly, the reminder that you are not alone. Whether you are just entering the Society, an active member, or enjoying “legacy status,” the book makes the perfect milestone gift, pick-me-up, and conversation starter. No application necessary. Congrats, you’re in. Join the Society on Instagram at @hormonal_hangover and find the book at www.hormonalhangover.com. Save $5 with code HHS5. Success That Doesn't Fit Anymore: Midlife as an Invitation to Realign

What if midlife change isn't a breaking point, but an invitation? In this episode of ChangeHer, we explore what happens when the life you've built looks successful from the outside but feels exhausting or out of alignment on the inside. That quiet disconnect isn't a sign that something is wrong with you. It's often the starting point of deeper, more honest work. We also challenge the belief that leading well means pushing harder. Many women have spent years leading through force: overextending, overperforming, and holding everything together. Here, we talk about another way. You can reclaim your clarity, your presence, and your inner authority, and lead from steadiness instead of strain. If you're in a season of change and sensing that the old ways no longer fit, this conversation is for you. It's an invitation to realign with who you are becoming. Michelle Scott is an Intuitive Leadership Coach who empowers high-impact leaders to break free from outdated paradigms and ego-driven patterns, unlocking their fullest potential through intuitive alignment and holistic transformation, both in business and in self. With over 14 years of experience, a Doctorate in Spiritual Science, and advanced training in trauma-informed somatic work, she guides leaders to transcend external pressures and lead from within, creating exponential impact with clarity, confidence, and authenticity. Listening To Your Heart, Drawing Out the Noise and Living in Alignment with Sacha Hughes

Welcome to ChangeHER. I am excited to share this heart felt conversation with you about living through challenges, changing, drowning out the noise and listening to your heart as we navigate change.  Sacha Hughes graduated from the University of Sheffield with a degree in Business Studies before embarking on a ten-year career in financial services recruitment in London. Her debut novel, Love, Grief & More Sex Than Pinot, a Bridget Jones-meets-Fleabag vibe, is inspired by her personal experiences in her mid-to-late twenties, with her second book from the Soho Summers series: Soho Summers Vs Love, Life, The Universe out before the end of the year.  Sacha writes from her kitchen table in Poole, Dorset, fuelled by strong coffee, Common Roots Cacao, daily meditations, and the occasional pinot grigio with close friends. She lives with her two treasured children, Rose and Cato, and their much-adored (and decidedly entitled) black-and-white cat Pickle. That is, until a mischievous little black kitten, Zuma, arrived and promptly promoted himself to Chief Editor.  Get in touch with Sacha! Bone Health and Joint Health in Midlife with Dr. Jocelyn Wittstein

Welcome to ChangeHER. I am delighted to share this conversation with you today. I have the pleasure of honor of speaking with Dr. Jocelyn Wittstein about bone and joint health during menopause. We chat about frozen shoulders and osteoporosis and how we can help mitigate these conditions.   Dr. Wittstein is an associate professor of orthopaedic surgery with research and clinical interests in the shoulder, elbow, and knee in pediatric and adult populations. In the shoulder, she has studied the outcomes of rotator cuff repairs, the surgical treatment of injuries to the long head biceps, and the use of telemedicine to evaluate shoulder pathology. Dr. Wittstein is also studying the relationship between menopause, hormone replacement therapy, and the development of frozen shoulders in women. At the elbow, her work focuses on gymnastics-related and youth-throwing injuries. Her areas of interest in the knee include ACL injury mechanisms, links between ACL and meniscus injuries, development of post-traumatic arthritis, and the effects of joint blood on overall knee health and meniscus healing. Together, these efforts advance knowledge that informs better prevention, treatment, and recovery strategies for every patient who relies on musculoskeletal care. Dr. Wittstein is a co-investigator on several NIH grants, working with Louis DeFrate, PhD, and Amy McNulty, PhD, on studies of these knee-related topics. She sees patients at Duke Sports Medicine Cary, Duke Orthopaedics of Apex, and Duke Orthopaedics of Heritage. Dr. Wittstein performs surgery at Duke Arringdon and Duke Raleigh and conducts research as part of her work at all these sites.
