Is Your Life Working, or Are You Just Keeping Up?

Have you ever looked at your life and thought, "I have so much to be grateful for, so why do I still feel like something is missing?" You might have a successful career, a thriving business, a family you love, and a calendar full of responsibilities. From the outside, everything looks great. But somewhere along the way, you've stopped making time for yourself and the things that bring you joy. In this episode of Brave Moves, Julie DeLucca-Collins shares a powerful exercise from her recent Recalibrate Retreat called the Wheel of Life. This simple self-reflection tool helps you look at different areas of your life, including your career, relationships, health, personal growth, and fun, to identify where you feel fulfilled and where something might need attention. Julie explores why successful women often put their own needs on the back burner, how constantly waiting for life to slow down can keep us stuck, and why small adjustments can make a meaningful difference. If you've been feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or wondering when you'll finally have time for the things you enjoy, this episode will help you take an honest look at where you are and what you want to change. What You'll Hear Why you can be successful and still feel unfulfilled. How the Wheel of Life exercise helps identify areas that need attention. Why women often prioritize responsibilities over their own well-being.The hidden cost of constantly telling yourself, "I'll get to it someday."How to recognize when an area of your life needs to be recalibrated. Why improving your life doesn't require changing everything at once.Your Brave Move of the Day Choose three areas of your life and rate your satisfaction with each on a scale of 1 to 10. Consider areas such as: Health and energyRelationships and friendshipsCareer and workFun and restPersonal growthLook at the area with the lowest score and ask yourself: What is one small thing I could do this week to move that number up by just one point? Maybe it's calling a friend, taking a walk, scheduling time for yourself, or finally doing something you've been putting off. You don't need to overhaul your entire life. Start by giving one neglected area a little more attention. A Question to Reflect On What part of your life have you been promising yourself you'll get to someday, and how long have you been waiting? Have You Forgotten Who You Are?

When was the last time you stopped to recognize something you're genuinely proud of? We spend so much time thinking about what we haven't accomplished, the mistakes we've made, and the things we still need to improve. But how often do we acknowledge the courage, resilience, and strengths we've already demonstrated? In this episode of Brave Moves, Julie DeLucca-Collins shares a powerful exercise from the recent Recalibrate Retreat called the Finest and Best List. This simple reflection invites you to remember moments when you showed up as your best self, especially during challenging times. If you've been feeling disconnected from yourself, questioning your abilities, or waiting until you feel more confident to take your next step, this episode will help you recognize the strengths you already have. What You'll Hear Why it's easier to remember our mistakes than our proudest moments. How years of responsibilities can disconnect us from our strengths. What your past experiences reveal about your ability to handle challenges. How the Finest and Best List exercise can help rebuild self-trust.Why remembering your past courage can help you take your next step.Your Brave Move of the Day Write down three moments in your life when you were proud of how you showed up. For each moment, identify the quality you demonstrated. Was it courage, compassion, persistence, honesty, or creativity? Then ask yourself: Where could I use that quality in my life right now? You may discover that the confidence you've been searching for is already part of your story. Please Don't Tell Me to Be Strong

Have you ever finally opened up to someone about how much you're struggling, only to hear, "You're strong. You've got this. Everything will be fine"? I know those words usually come from a place of love. I've said them myself. But sometimes, when we're reaching out to someone, we don't need encouragement or another reminder of how capable we are. We need permission to admit that we're having a hard time. I recently came across a quote that stopped me in my tracks: "Never tell a person to be strong when they come to you to be weak." It made me think about how often we rush to reassure people, offer solutions, or encourage them to look on the bright side when all they really want is someone to listen. As a coach, I'm naturally inclined to help people find solutions. But I'm learning that not every difficult conversation needs an action plan. In this episode of Brave Moves, I'm exploring why being the strong one can become exhausting, how our well-intentioned advice sometimes makes people feel unheard, and what it looks like to create space for someone to be vulnerable. I'm also talking about something many of us struggle with: giving ourselves permission to ask for help. Because when you've spent years being the person everyone depends on, admitting you need support can feel incredibly uncomfortable. What if we stopped expecting ourselves and the people we love to be strong all the time? What You'll Hear in This Episode Why telling someone to "be strong" isn't always the comfort we think it isHow being the dependable person can make it difficult to admit you're strugglingWhy we feel compelled to fix other people's problems instead of simply listeningThe difference between offering reassurance and making someone feel heardHow to support someone without immediately offering adviceWhy asking for emotional support can feel uncomfortable, especially for women who are used to taking care of everyone elseA simple question that can change how we show up for people we loveYour Brave Move of the Day The next time someone comes to you with something difficult, resist the urge to immediately offer advice or tell them everything will be okay. Instead, ask: "Do you want me to listen, or would it help to talk through some ideas?" Give them the opportunity to tell you what they need. And if you're the one going through a difficult time, practice asking for support without apologizing for it. You might say, "I'm having a hard day, and I could really use someone to listen." Sometimes the bravest move we can make is allowing someone to see that we don't have everything figured out. A Thought to Take With You Being strong doesn't mean never needing help. And being someone others depend on doesn't mean you have to carry everything alone. The next time someone trusts you enough to share their struggles, remember that they may have spent a long time working up the courage to say something. You don't have to fix their pain. Sometimes being there and listening is exactly what they need. You Can Be Hurting and Still Make a Difference

What if something you did today, without even thinking about it, made a difference in someone's life? I recently came across a story about a Chicago postal worker named Lavonte Harvey that touched my heart. Lavonte loved to sing while delivering the mail. He wasn't trying to get attention or become famous. Singing was simply something he enjoyed doing as he walked his route. What he didn't know was that a doorbell camera had captured him singing outside the home of Wanda, a 76-year-old widow grieving the loss of her husband of 50 years. His singing brought her a moment of happiness during an incredibly difficult time. When Wanda's granddaughter shared the video online, millions of people saw it. But what happened next was just as remarkable. As the family got to know Lavonte, they discovered that he was facing challenges of his own. Without reliable transportation, he was leaving home hours before his shift just to get to work. His kindness eventually inspired strangers to raise more than $8,000, helping him purchase a vehicle. I've been thinking about this story because it reminds me of something we often forget when we're struggling. We can be going through a difficult time ourselves and still make a difference in someone else's life. In this episode of Brave Moves, I'm talking about the struggles we don't see, how small gestures can affect people in ways we may never realize, and why we don't have to wait until everything in our lives is perfect to show someone kindness. I'm also exploring the other side of this story: learning to accept help when we're the ones who need it. Because sometimes the bravest thing we can do is allow someone else to show up for us. What You'll Hear in This Episode The heartwarming story of a Chicago postal worker whose singing brought joy to a grieving grandmotherHow two strangers facing different challenges ended up changing each other's livesWhy we should remember that everyone is carrying something we may not seeHow small acts of kindness can have a lasting impactWhy experiencing hardship doesn't mean we have nothing to offer othersThe importance of allowing ourselves to receive support instead of always being the person giving itYour Brave Move of the Day Think about someone in your life who might need a little kindness today. Maybe it's a friend you haven't spoken to recently, an elderly neighbor, or someone you know who's going through a difficult time. Reach out. Send a text, make a phone call, or spend a few minutes listening. And if you're the one going through a difficult season, consider whether there's someone you could reach out to for support. You don't need to have everything figured out to make a difference in someone else's life. And you don't have to face everything alone. Why Am I Afraid of Getting What I Want?

Have you ever worked incredibly hard for something, only to feel afraid when you realize you might actually get it? I've been asking myself that question lately. Growing up in El Salvador, I learned early that I had to prove myself. Because my grandmother owned a school, people often assumed I had advantages or that my accomplishments came easily. But I started working at 14, and those early experiences of being judged stayed with me longer than I realized. Now, decades later, I'm recognizing how those old fears still show up. I'm currently competing for Top Host 2026, an opportunity I genuinely want. Yet every time I promote myself or ask for votes, I find myself worrying about what people will think. Will they think I'm selfish? Vain? Am I asking for too much? In this episode of Brave Moves, I'm sharing my personal experience with the fear of success and how reading Success Is an Inside Job by Judith Truesdell helped me recognize the connection between fear, anxiety, and our need for approval. I'm also talking about how I'm learning to recognize those old stories, question whether they're still true, and keep moving toward the things I want, even when I'm uncomfortable. What You'll Hear in This Episode Why fear of success can be just as powerful as fear of failureHow childhood experiences can influence the way we pursue recognition as adultsWhy promoting yourself can feel uncomfortable, especially when you've spent years trying to prove your worthWhat I'm learning about fear from Judith Truesdell's Success Is an Inside JobHow small actions can help us move forward without waiting for fear to disappearWhy wanting recognition for your hard work doesn't make you selfishYour Brave Move of the Day Ask yourself: "If I knew nobody would judge me for succeeding, what would I do differently?" Think about something you've been holding back from pursuing or sharing because you're worried about how others might react. Then choose one small action you can take today. Maybe it's sharing an accomplishment, asking for support, or finally telling someone about a goal you've been keeping to yourself. You don't have to eliminate fear before taking action. You can acknowledge it and still make a decision that supports what you want. Why Do the People We Love Trigger Us the Most?

Have you ever gotten so angry over something small that even you couldn't explain why it bothered you so much? Maybe it's something your partner says, a habit your mother has, or a comment from a friend that gets under your skin. You know your reaction feels bigger than the situation, but that doesn't make the frustration disappear. And then comes the guilt. Why did I get so upset? Why can't I just let it go? In this episode of Brave Moves, Julie DeLucca-Collins gets personal about an everyday interaction with her mom involving restaurant leftovers and a napkin. What seems like a small annoyance opens the door to a deeper conversation about family patterns, our relationships with food, and the emotional responses we carry from past experiences. Julie explores how certain behaviors can activate old beliefs, why understanding someone's history doesn't automatically make us more patient, and how we can practice compassion even when we're feeling angry. As a certified Tiny Habits coach, she also shares a simple three-step practice to help you recognize emotional triggers and respond more intentionally. What You'll Hear: Why seemingly small situations can create surprisingly strong emotional reactionsHow family experiences and learned behaviors can influence our emotional responsesThe connection between anger, guilt, and self-judgmentWhy understanding someone's behavior doesn't always make it less frustratingHow to recognize what might be underneath an emotional triggerThree practical steps to pause before reactingHow Tiny Habits can help you practice patience and emotional awarenessWhy compassion includes giving yourself room to learnThree Steps to Turn Your Triggers Into Teachers 1. Notice the Reaction Pay attention to what happens in your body when you feel irritated, defensive, or angry. 2. Pause and Breathe Take one slow breath before responding. Give yourself a moment to recognize what you're feeling. 3. Get Curious Ask yourself, "What is this moment bringing up for me?" You may discover an old belief, an unmet need, a boundary that deserves attention, or simply that you're having a difficult day. Your Brave Move of the Day Think about one behavior that consistently gets under your skin. The next time it happens, practice this Tiny Habit: "After I notice myself getting irritated, I will take one slow breath before I speak." You don't have to eliminate the feeling or immediately understand why it's happening. Start by creating a little space between your emotions and your response. And if you don't get it right the first time, give yourself permission to try again. A Thought to Take With You Compassion isn't always something we naturally feel in the moment. Sometimes it's something we have to practice, especially with the people closest to us. Visualization: The Mental Toughness Skill You're Probably Overlooking

What if you could practice being confident before you ever stepped into a challenging situation? Elite athletes have used visualization and mental rehearsal for decades to prepare for competition. But you don't have to be an Olympian to benefit from this powerful mental toughness skill. In this episode of Brave Moves, Julie DeLucca-Collins explores how visualization can help you prepare for difficult conversations, important presentations, career changes, and everyday situations that require courage. And no, we're not talking about sitting around imagining your dream life and waiting for it to magically appear. Visualization is a practical skill that can help you mentally rehearse your actions, anticipate challenges, and build confidence through preparation. As a certified Tiny Habits coach, Julie shares three easy steps you can use to incorporate visualization into your daily life, even if you only have two minutes. What You'll Hear: Why visualization is an underused mental toughness skillHow mental rehearsal can support confidence and preparationWhy imagining a perfect outcome isn't enoughHow athletes use visualization to prepare for performanceThree simple steps to practice visualization in everyday lifeHow to mentally rehearse challenges before they happenWhy combining visualization with small actions makes it more usefulThree Steps to Practice Visualization 1. Picture One Specific Moment Choose an upcoming situation and imagine yourself taking one clear, manageable action. 2. Rehearse the Challenge Imagine a realistic obstacle and practice how you'll respond instead of focusing only on a perfect outcome. 3. Take One Small Action Connect your mental rehearsal to something you can do today, whether that's practicing your opening sentence, preparing for a meeting, or taking the first step toward a goal. Your Brave Move of the Day Set aside two minutes to visualize one situation that's making you feel nervous or uncertain. Picture yourself taking action, imagine how you'll respond if something unexpected happens, and identify one small step you can take to prepare. Then take that step. Mental toughness doesn't mean you'll never feel nervous. It means developing the skills to respond when things get uncomfortable.
