Back to the Basics | Scripture | Pastor David Junior Noakes

In this message from the “Back to the Basics” series, we explore why Scripture is an essential part of following Jesus and how God’s Word shapes us into His disciples. Through the story of a younger brother who wanted to become like his older brother, we discover that we become like those we spend time with. The early church in Acts devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, which was deeply rooted in Scripture and pointed people toward Jesus. We learn that Jesus viewed God’s Word as a source of life, truth, and transformation. Reading the Bible is not only about gaining knowledge but about hearing and obeying God’s voice, allowing His Word to change our character and make us more like Jesus. As followers of Christ, we are invited to build a daily rhythm of engaging with Scripture and ask how God is using His Word to shape who we are becoming. The central truth is simple: God’s Word transforms us, so we can become more like Jesus. Read:   Acts 2:42-47Matthew 4:4James 1:22-25 5 Discussion Questions for Young Adults The sermon says, “We become like who we hang out with.” Who or what influences you the most right now, and how has that shaped the person you are becoming? The early church was devoted to the apostles’ teaching. Back to the Basics | Generosity | Pastor Eleah Tercero

In this message from the "Back to the Basics" series, we explore the biblical practice of generosity and how it flows from the character of God Himself. Through personal stories of God's provision and Jesus' teaching in Matthew 6, we discover that God is a generous Father who provides more than enough for His children. Because God is generous, we do not need to hoard our resources, be controlled by money, fear the future, or live consumed by worry. Instead, encountering the radical generosity of Jesus transforms our hearts from a scarcity mindset to a mindset of abundance, enabling us to freely give as we have freely received. Generosity is not limited to money but includes our time, talents, relationships, possessions, and opportunities. The early church modeled this kind of sacrificial generosity by sharing what they had and caring for one another's needs, creating a vibrant community that reflected God's love. As followers of Jesus, we are invited to ask how the Holy Spirit is calling us to be generous today and to become channels through which God meets the needs of others. The central truth is simple: God is generous, so I can be generous too. Read:   Matthew 6 5 Discussion Questions for Young Adults The sermon teaches that God's generosity frees us from hoarding, fear, and worry. Which of these do you struggle with most, and why do you think it can be difficult to trust God's provision? What is the difference between a scarcity mindset and an abundance mindset? How have you seen each of these attitudes affect the way people live, give, and relate to others?Generosity involves more than money—it can include time, talents, relationships, encouragement, and resources. Which form of generosity comes most naturally to you, and which one challenges you the most? The early church shared their resources and cared for one another's needs. What would our church, small group, or community look like if we practiced that same kind of generosity more intentionally? The sermon concludes by asking, "What is a need that God can meet through you?" Is there a specific person, situation, or need that God may be inviting you to respond to this week? What practical step could you take?Support the show 📍 English Worship Jogja |  A place to encounter God, grow in community, and walk in purpose. 🔗 Website: ewjogja.com 📸 Instagram: @ewjogja

  3. Back to the Basics | Sabbath | Pastor Eleah Tercero

Back to the Basics | Sabbath | Pastor Eleah Tercero

Let’s head Back to the Basics by exploring the practice of Sabbath and asking what the life of a follower of Jesus should look like. For many of us, we struggle to rest and instead we believe everything depends on our effort and control. Looking at Scripture, we see that Sabbath began at creation when God rested on the seventh day, and later became a command for His people. The biblical idea of Sabbath is not simply taking a day off, but intentionally ceasing from work, settling into God’s presence, and remembering that He is the true provider. Jesus reinforced this by teaching that the Sabbath was made as a gift for humanity, a day for healing, restoration, and experiencing the goodness of God rather than a religious burden or obligation. Sabbath ultimately points to Jesus, who invites weary and burdened people to find rest for their souls in Him. More than a weekly practice, Sabbath is an act of faith that declares God is in control and that our worth is not found in endless striving. By setting aside time to rest, worship, enjoy God’s blessings, and reconnect with others, believers live as though God’s coming restoration has already begun. Sabbath becomes an opportunity to experience true rest, deepen friendship with Jesus, strengthen relationships, and enjoy the gifts God has placed before us.  Read:   Genesis 2:1-4Exodus 20:8-11Deuteronomy 5:12-15Matthew 11:28-29  5 Discussion Questions for Young Adults Why do you think so many people struggle to rest, even when they know they need it? What are some pressures or beliefs that make Sabbath difficult to practice? What was your family or culture’s belief about rest/Sabbath growing up?The sermon teaches that Sabbath is an act of faith and trust in God’s control. What areas of your life are hardest for you to surrender to God, and how might practicing Sabbath help you trust Him more?Jesus said that the Sabbath was made for people, not people for the Sabbath. How does this change the way you think about Sabbath and spiritual disciplines in general? The sermon describes Sabbath as more than taking a day off—it is an opportunity to enjoy God, His blessings, and His presence. What activities help you experience true rest and reconnect with God?Where do you most need the rest that Jesus promises for your soul right now? What is one practical step you can take this week to create space for Sabbath and true rest?Support the show 📍 English Worship Jogja |  A place to encounter God, grow in community, and walk in purpose. 🔗 Website: ewjogja.com 📸 Instagram: @ewjogja

  4. Holy Spirit | The Partnership | Pastor Eleah Tercero

Holy Spirit | The Partnership | Pastor Eleah Tercero

What does partnership with the Holy Spirit look like? The Spirit helps the disciples fulfill the command of Jesus Acts 2:37-41 NLT 37 Peter’s words pierced their hearts, and they said to him and to the other apostles, “Brothers, what should we do?” 38 Peter replied, “Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 This promise is to you, to your children, and to those far away—all who have been called by the Lord our God.” 40 Then Peter continued preaching for a long time, strongly urging all his listeners, “Save yourselves from this crooked generation!” 41 Those who believed what Peter said were baptized and added to the church that day—about 3,000 in all. Partnership with the Spirit can look like the gifts of the Spirit 1 Corinthians 12:8-11 NLT 8 To one person the Spirit gives the ability to give wise advice; to another the same Spirit gives a message of special knowledge. 9 The same Spirit gives great faith to another, and to someone else the one Spirit gives the gift of healing. 10 He gives one person the power to perform miracles, and another the ability to prophesy. He gives someone else the ability to discern whether a message is from the Spirit of God or from another spirit. Still another person is given the ability to speak in unknown languages, while another is given the ability to interpret what is being said. 11 It is the one and only Spirit who distributes all these gifts. He alone decides which gift each person should have. These gifts are given to display the love of God.  Acts 2:42-47 NLT 42 All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper), and to prayer. 43 A deep sense of awe came over them all, and the apostles performed many miraculous signs and wonders. 44 And all the believers met together in one place and shared everything they had. 45 They sold their property and possessions and shared the money with those in need. 46 They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord’s Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity—47 all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved. Partnership with the Spirit can look like the fruits of the Spirit. Galatians 5:22-23 NLT 22 But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things! This is not an equal partnership…. So what is our role?  Our role is to say yes!  Support the show 📍 English Worship Jogja |  A place to encounter God, grow in community, and walk in purpose. 🔗 Website: ewjogja.com 📸 Instagram: @ewjogja

  5. Holy Spirit | Power to Witness | Pastor Jamie Kemp

Holy Spirit | Power to Witness | Pastor Jamie Kemp

Read:  Acts 1:4-11 Jesus promised that believers would receive Dunamis—the same Greek word from which we get “dynamite”—to empower them as witnesses. Just as dynamite transforms a landscape by clearing away obstructions, the Holy Spirit reshapes our environment—changing hard hearts, broken families, and divided communities. Being a witness is simply reporting what you have seen and experienced. It is not a debate, but an invitation to others to experience what you have experienced. The call to witness is less about a geographical strategy and more about a relational assignment. Jerusalem (Closest to us): Our family, friends, and coworkers. While these are often the hardest to reach, our transformed lives preach the loudest to those who knew our "old" selves.Judea (Common community): People we relate to easily, share values with, and have relational trust with.Samaria (Discomfort/Outsiders): The people we naturally avoid due to prejudice, social division, or fear. Jesus calls us to intentionally cross these barriers.Ends of the Earth (Global): The commitment to take the Gospel to those with no access, moving beyond our comfort zones to prioritize global redemption. 5 Discussion Questions for Young Adults Often times, the hardest people to witness to are those who know us best (our "Jerusalem"). Why do you think it is often more difficult to be a witness at home or with close friends than in a public or ministry setting? How does understanding the Holy Spirit as "explosive power" (Dunamis) change your perspective on your ability to share your faith, compared to relying on your own strength or personality? We all have a "Samaria"—someone or a group of people we might naturally avoid or feel uncomfortable with. What steps can you take this week to move toward someone in your "Samaria" with the love of Jesus? How can you build deeper relational bridges in your current community (your Judea) to make your witness more effective? If "witnessing" is simply sharing what you have experienced, what is a specific, recent way you have "seen or experienced" the goodness of God that you could share with a friend this week?Support the show 📍 English Worship Jogja |  A place to encounter God, grow in community, and walk in purpose. 🔗 Website: ewjogja.com 📸 Instagram: @ewjogja

Holy Spirit | The Presence | Pastor Eleah Tercero

The promise, the presence, the power, and the partnership of the Holy Spirit If you love Jesus, you are going to LOVE the Holy Spirit!  Genesis 1:1-2 NIV “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.”  The Holy Spirit is the power and presence of God with us.  He reveals and reminds us of our true identity.  Matthew 3:13-17 NIV “Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John. But John tried to deter him, saying, ‘I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?’ Jesus replied, ‘Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness..’ Then John consented. As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. And a voice from heaven said, ‘This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”  John 1:12-13 NIV “Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God –children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.”  Galatians 4:6-7 NIV “Because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, ‘Abba, Father.’ So you are no longer a slave, but a son; and since you are a son, God has made you also an heir.”  When we know how deeply loved we are, it changes everything. It changes the way we see ourselvesIt changes the way we see other believers It changes the way we love the lost The presence of the Holy Spirit reveals who we truly are and who the Lord is.  Support the show 📍 English Worship Jogja |  A place to encounter God, grow in community, and walk in purpose. 🔗 Website: ewjogja.com 📸 Instagram: @ewjogja

Holy Spirit | 3 Promises | Pastor Jon Ville Dublan

Read:  Joel 2:28-29 22:33-34, John 14:15-17; 26, Acts 1:8; 2:16-18 One main misconception that a lot of people do not notice is that the Holy Spirit has been with us from the beginning of time. The Holy Spirit did not just show up in the New Testament after Jesus ascended into heaven. In fact, not only the Holy Spirit was in the Old Testament, but the promises of the Holy Spirit is for everyone. Promise 1: The Holy Spirit’s empowerment: In Joel 2:28-29 The Holy Spirit promises that everyone will be filled and that everyone will be empowered. Men and women, young and old, everyone will be empowered by the Holy Spirit.  Promise 2: The Holy Spirit’s presence: In John 14:15-17 Jesus promises to His disciples that He will send the Holy Spirit as our paraclete (advisor, counselor, helper). That his disciples and we would not be alone in our walk in following Jesus. That He will never leave us behind. Promise 3: The Holy Spirit’s partnership: In John 14:26, Jesus tells that the Holy Spirit will partner with us. That He will teach and remind us of everything that we have learned from Jesus. We will be empowered witnesses because it is not just us who is doing the work, but the Holy Spirit wants to partner with you. And this promise was later fulfilled! In Acts 2:16-18, Peter preaches the same promise from Joel to everyone. That the promises of the Holy Spirit are here and now. All we have to do is receive it. We are all empowered to walk in step with the Holy Spirit because He empowers us, His presence is with us, and He wants to partner with us. 5 Discussion Questions for Young Adults What are some of the things that you have learned about the Holy Spirit before this? When you hear Holy Spirit, what comes immediately into your mind? The Holy Spirit wants to empower us. Where do you want to see the Holy Spirit empowerment in your life? (In your witness to your friends, classmates, family, etc?) The Holy Spirit’s presence is always with us. How have you seen the Holy Spirit work in your life? Or come alongside you?The Holy Spirit wants to partner with us. How do you think that affects the way we live our lives as witnesses to the people around us?What does it mean for you this week to receive the promises of the Holy Spirit? What is one step you will take this week to receive it?
