    Herm's House Podcast - Season 4 | Episode 1 - We Survived September

We’re back! After an unplanned break, a brand-new studio, and a month that genuinely tried to take us out, Herm and Kristin are back behind the mics — recording for the first time at PHP Studios. Between full-time jobs, coaching, kids, and a September that somehow felt like an entire year, life has been pure chaos. But we survived September… barely. Herm kicks things off with Herm’s Football Minute, and it’s a wild one. The Vail Vikings had already turned in their helmets and planned the end-of-season party when every single team they needed to lose actually lost during the bye week — and just like that, the Vikings backed into the playoffs as the #16 seed. Their reward? A first-round matchup with the only undefeated team in the entire league. The helmets have been handed back out, practice is back on, and Gordy has no say in the matter. Then Herm shares what might be the greatest work weekend of his life. Through his job at Waste Management — an MLB partner — Herm got selected for a baseball fantasy camp and spent the day as an Arizona Diamondback: full uniform, his own #13 jersey (Gordy’s number), his own walk-up song, the actual voice of the Diamondbacks announcing his name, and the biggest fan section in the park. And yes… the very first ball hit his way? He dropped it. In front of everyone. Right after Gordy warned him, “You better do good.” (He caught the next two. Redemption matters.) That story turns into one of our favorite life lessons: just ask the question. The worst that can happen is they say no — and it’s the same philosophy that once landed us a tour of Michael Jackson’s house. From there, we get into what it’s like being married to your complete opposite: people recharge Herm, people drain Kristin, and September drained her completely. Which leads to one of our realest conversations yet — neither of us needs the other. We have our own money, our own lives, our own everything… and we still pick each other every day. Plus, the official Herm’s House fight rule: don’t touch me, don’t look at me, but don’t you dare leave. And to close it out, it’s finally official: the inaugural Herm’s House Hero Walk is happening Saturday, November 7. Herm is walking all 11 miles (in a weight vest, because of course he is) to honor our veterans, starting and ending at The Station Pub & Grill and benefiting Hero Breakfast. Walk the whole thing, meet us at a stop, or just come cheer — all the details are in this episode. New studio. New season. Same chaos. First Flags, Fuzzy Memories, & Fart Smiles

This week on Herm’s House, we came prepared with absolutely no notes… so naturally, things went exactly as expected. Herm kicks things off with a very special edition of Herm’s Football Minute after Gordy finally accomplishes something they’ve been working toward for years—pulling his first flag in a game! Between the Vail Vikings getting their first win of the season and Herm nearly jumping out of his shoes celebrating, it was a pretty big football weekend. From there, the conversation takes a sharp left turn into childhood memories. Herm and Kristin start comparing how far back they can actually remember, which somehow leads to broken ankles, Christmas Segas, snakes, preschool naps, fire drills, being bullied over drawings, Sesame Street Live, recorders, Three Blind Mice, Hot Cross Buns, and the realization that siblings can remember the exact same childhood completely differently. They also wonder which moments their own kids will carry with them forever—and how seemingly tiny experiences can shape the way we see ourselves years later. And because this is Herm’s House, a meaningful conversation about childhood, memory, and different life paths eventually turns into alternate timelines, military jobs, forgotten movie quotes, mysterious noises, and the discovery that Herm apparently has a very recognizable “fart smile.” No notes. No plan. Just another completely normal conversation inside Herm’s House. 💡 In This Episode Gordy finally pulls his first flagThe Vail Vikings get their first win of the seasonHerm’s Football Minute returnsCelebrating the little victories in youth sportsA busy weekend that somehow felt “quiet”Game Night and the Colonel Sanders mysteryHow far back can you actually remember?Herm’s earliest childhood memoriesBroken ankles, snakes, and Christmas SegasKristin dropping out of preschoolFire drills and childhood sensory memoriesGetting bullied over childhood drawingsGlasses, nicknames, and things that stick with youHow siblings can remember the same childhood differentlyWondering what memories our own kids will keepAlternate timelines and what jobs we might have chosenWhy Kristin thinks she could have been an aircraft maintainerThree Blind Mice, Hot Cross Buns, and recorder nostalgiaRandom childhood songs we somehow still rememberHerm’s allergies trying to take him outFerris Bueller quotes gone wrongThe newly discovered “fart smile”⚡ Episode Highlights “He pulled a flag!” “I almost jumped out of my shoes.” “I dropped out of preschool.” “What memories are actually going to shape him?” “We lived the same childhood and remember it completely differently.” “Life moves pretty fast.” “You had the fart smile.” 🎙️ Chapters 00:00 – Knee Injuries & Starting the Show 02:30 – Herm’s Football Minute 03:00 – Gordy Pulls His First Flag 04:00 – The Vikings Get Their First Win 05:00 – Our Apparently “Quiet” Weekend 07:00 – Game Night & Colonel Sanders 09:00 – How Far Back Can You Remember? 10:00 – Broken Ankles & Childhood Stories 12:00 – Christmas Sega Memories 15:00 – Snakes, Siblings & Early Memories 18:30 – Kristin Drops Out of Preschool 20:00 – Fire Drills & Sensory Memories 26:00 – Childhood Bullying & Things That Stick 29:00 – Sesame Street Live & Family Memories 30:30 – How Siblings Remember Childhood Differently 33:00 – Recorders, Three Blind Mice & Hot Cross Buns 35:30 – Allergies & Random Texas Talk 37:00 – No Notes, No Problem 38:00 – Ferris Bueller & The Fart Smile 40:00 – Wrapping Up 🎤 Sound Bites “He pulled a flag!”“I dropped out of preschool.”“Bye-bye, Ernie.”“What memories are actually going to shape him?”“We lived the same life and remember it differently.”“You had the fart smile.”“Life moves pretty fast.”🔑 Keywords Herm’s House Podcast, family podcast, parenting podcast, marriage podcast, childhood memories, funny childhood stories, youth football, flag football, football parents, football coach, parenting memories, sibling memories, childhood trauma, nostalgia, millennial nostalgia, preschool memories, funny couple podcast, veteran family, military family, family stories, parenting humor, comedy podcast, Tucson podcast, Arizona podcast 🤝 THANK YOU TO OUR SPONSORSANCHOR FINANCIAL SOLUTIONS GROUP, LLC 🌐 www.anchorfinancialsolutionsgroup.com 📍 2544 E. 10th Street, Tucson, AZ 85716 📞 520-620-5320 Thank you for supporting Herm’s House Podcast and helping us continue sharing the laughs, memories, family stories, and everyday chaos happening inside Herm’s House. 📌 Support the Show If this episode brought back some childhood memories of your own: ⭐ Leave us a review 👍 Like the episode 💬 Tell us in the comments: What is the EARLIEST memory you can remember? Move-In Day, Mom Tears, & Millennial Memories

This week on Herm’s House, the moment Herm and Kristin have been talking about for months finally arrives: it’s time to move Layla into college. They recap the drive to Texas, navigating move-in day at Texas State, unloading an entire dorm room into carts that somehow only needed to travel about eight feet, climbing stairs with way too many boxes, and realizing that college dorms apparently believe one outlet is enough for an entire human being. Between assembling furniture, running back out for surge protectors, meeting the roommate, and watching an entirely new chapter of their daughter’s life begin, Herm and Kristin talk honestly about the strange mix of pride, excitement, jealousy, worry, and sadness that comes with dropping your child off and driving away. The conversation then takes a very millennial turn when Layla says her “CD skipped”—despite barely knowing what a CD is. That leads to a trip down memory lane about dial-up internet, LimeWire, rewinding tapes, rolling down windows, hanging up phones, filming things on actual film, and all the phrases younger generations still use without knowing where they came from. And now that Layla is twelve hours away, Kristin faces a brand-new parenting challenge: having Life360 and somehow resisting the urge to ask why her daughter appears to be standing in the middle of a random Texas field. It’s a funny, nostalgic, emotional episode about growing up, letting go, trusting the kids you raised, and learning how to be a parent when your child technically doesn’t need permission anymore. 💡 In This Episode Taking Layla to Texas State for move-in daySurviving the college dorm unloading processWhy the move-in carts made absolutely no senseDad refusing help from the young college guysSetting up a dorm with approximately one electrical outletAlexa, TVs, mini-fridges, and dorm-room technologyWatching your daughter begin her college experienceThe college experience Herm and Kristin never gotLearning to let your adult child figure things outWhy “your CD skipped” makes absolutely no sense to Gen ZRewinding tapes and VHS moviesRolling down car windowsHanging up actual phonesDial-up internet and the trauma of someone picking up the landlineLimeWire ruining the family computerWhy we still say “film this”Life360 and trying not to stalk your college kidParenting from twelve hours awayGiving kids freedom while still hoping they make good decisionsMissing the college football game — and Herm’s Football MinuteAnnouncing the upcoming Veterans WalkUpcoming Society of BS events⚡ Episode Highlights “Did your CD just skip?” “What makes a CD skip, Layla?” “I don’t think I’ve ever even seen one.” “You literally called the internet.” “I want so badly to text her and ask what she’s doing.” “I have to let her do her thing.” “It feels like chips of my heart are getting taken away.” “She’s going to be fine.” 🎙️ Chapters 00:00 – Technical Difficulties… Again 01:40 – We Dropped Layla Off at College 03:00 – Surviving Texas State Move-In Day 05:30 – Dorm Rooms, Boxes & Way Too Few Outlets 08:00 – Alexa Is Still Connected to the House 10:00 – Dinner on the Riverwalk & Extremely Clear Ice 12:30 – The College Experience We Never Had 15:00 – Dad vs. The College Move-In Crew 18:00 – “Your CD Skipped” 19:30 – Things Kids Say But Don’t Understand 21:00 – Rewind, Roll Up the Window & Hang Up the Phone 22:00 – Dial-Up Internet & LimeWire Trauma 24:00 – Why Do We Still Say “Film It?” 25:00 – Life360 Changes Everything 27:00 – Parenting an Adult Child From Afar 29:00 – Trusting the Kids You Raised 31:00 – Missing Them While Letting Them Grow 34:00 – No Herm’s Football Minute This Week 35:30 – Veterans Walk Announcement 37:00 – Upcoming Society of BS Events 39:00 – Dinner Duty & Wrapping Up 🎤 Sound Bites “Your CD just skipped.”“You literally called the internet.”“I have to let her do her thing.”“It feels like chips of my heart are getting taken away.”“She’s going to be fine.”“I’m still doing the mom watch.”“You don’t need permission anymore.”“We’re on a new journey.”🔑 Keywords Herm’s House Podcast, Move-In Day Mom Tears Millennial Memories, college move in, Texas State University, sending daughter to college, college parents, empty nest, parenting adult children, dorm move in, family podcast, parenting podcast, marriage podcast, millennial nostalgia, CD players, dial up internet, LimeWire, landline phones, Life360, letting go as a parent, family transitions, funny family stories, veteran family, husband and wife podcast, Texas road trip, millennial parents 🤝 THANK YOU TO OUR SPONSORSANCHOR FINANCIAL SOLUTIONS GROUP, LLC 🌐 www.anchorfinancialsolutionsgroup.com 📍 2544 E. 10th Street, Tucson, AZ 85716 📞 520-620-5320 Thank you for supporting Herm’s House Podcast and helping us continue sharing the laughs, family stories, and real-life moments happening inside Herm’s House. 📌 Support the Show If this episode made you nostalgic—or made you want to check your kid’s Life360: ⭐ Leave us a review 👍 Like the episode 💬 Tell us in the comments: What’s something we still say today that younger generations probably have NO idea where it came from? Herm’s House Podcast | Broken Fingers, College Goodbyes, & Football Fights

This week on Herm’s House, the Hermosillo household is experiencing a little bit of everything: gray hairs, ER visits, college goodbyes, football drama, and some very questionable crossing-guard flirting. Herm and Kristin kick things off with the realities of getting older—phantom hairs, gray beard hairs, and the unanswered question of how one single hair seemingly decides overnight that it’s done producing color. Then things get a little more serious when Mariano calls with the words no parent wants to hear: “Mom, I need to go to the ER.” Thankfully, the damage is limited to one very dislocated pinky, but with his senior football season underway, even one finger feels like a pretty big deal. The conversation shifts into a much more emotional chapter as the family prepares to take Layla to Texas State. Kristin opens up about finally breaking down in therapy over the upcoming goodbye, while Herm shares the moment a country song unexpectedly had Gordy sobbing over how much he’s going to miss his sister. They reflect on watching their kids grow up, the weird little things parents miss after their children leave home, and the mix of fear, pride, excitement, and sadness that comes with sending your first daughter off to college. And because no Herm’s House episode can stay emotional for too long… Herm’s Football Minute is officially BACK. From Gordy’s first big run to a sideline disagreement that somehow turned into rumors of a full-blown altercation, Herm explains what actually happened during the Vail Vikings’ first game of the season—and Kristin reminds him that sometimes his “normal talking voice” sounds a whole lot more aggressive to everyone else. Add in a three-year-old giving Coach Herm his first flower, a neighborhood mom potentially shooting her shot at the crossing guard, and some big upcoming Herm’s House and Society of BS events, and this episode is exactly what you’d expect from another week inside Herm’s House. 💡 In This Episode Phantom hairs and the realities of getting olderWhy Herm’s beard is suddenly sprouting gray hairsMariano’s surprise trip to the ERA seriously dislocated pinkyNavigating an injury during senior-year footballMeeting an 80-year-old gym-goer who has technically died three timesGratitude, borrowed time, and appreciating where you arePreparing to take Layla to Texas StateKristin getting emotional in therapy about the goodbyeWhy a Randy Rogers Band song made Gordy completely break downHelping younger siblings process a major family changeWatching your children become adultsThe little things parents miss when their kids move awayThe return of Herm’s Football MinuteGordy’s first big run of the seasonA sideline disagreement that grew through the rumor millHerm’s apparently “aggressive” coaching voiceWhy youth sports mean so much beyond the scoreboardCoach Herm receiving his first flowerWas Herm getting hit on while working as a crossing guard?Upcoming Veterans Day Walk for a CauseSociety of BS Game Night and Not Your Average Trivia⚡ Episode Highlights “Mom, I need to go to the ER. Old Ladies, Long Drives, & Little Dumplings | Season 3 Episode 9

This week on Herm’s House, Herm and Kristin are catching up on a weekend that somehow included public speaking, sleeping senior citizens, bar hopping, family golf, Costco gas-station frustration, and some unexpected relationship advice. Herm shares what happened when he was invited to speak at a nonprofit fundraiser—and discovered that at least two members of the audience had fallen asleep during his speech. Between one woman waking up just long enough to thank him for his service and another loudly asking, “Is he still going?” Herm begins questioning whether his storytelling skills are as captivating as he thought. The couple also talks about finding the bar where millennials apparently belong, taking the entire family to Topgolf, and discovering that Gordy may officially be ready for his first set of golf clubs. Kristin reveals the unusual golf tip that dramatically improved her swing, while Herm becomes determined to figure out how experienced golfers make a 240-yard drive look effortless. The conversation then shifts to Herm’s growing frustration with people at the Costco gas pumps, his new role as an elementary-school crossing guard, and the difference between being impatient with adults and protective of children. Kristin wraps up the conversation by sharing a relationship habit couples therapists recommend: giving your partner your full attention during the first ten minutes after getting home. Naturally, this leads to a discussion about phones, connection, accountability, Herm’s little dumpling game, and the type of attention he would personally prefer. Rage Bait, Really Bad Golf, & The Karaoke Cowboy

After weeks of nonstop travel, life finally slows down… sort of. This week, Herm and Kristin share stories from an unforgettable Father’s Day that included their first real round of golf, a surprise karaoke night with a legendary “Karaoke Cowboy,” and the hilarious realization that today’s kids have turned annoying their parents into an actual trend called “rage bait.” Along the way, they talk about learning new hobbies as adults, celebrating the little moments with family, surviving molten-hot pizza logs, and why parenting teenagers requires equal parts patience and humor. Sometimes the best memories aren’t the big vacations—they’re the random nights that turn into unforgettable stories. 💡 In This Episode Why we’re officially becoming “golf people”Discovering just how hard golf really isFather’s Day on the golf courseThe gifts that made Father’s Day specialWhy Gordy’s homemade card meant the mostDinner at Anchor Bar (and the hottest pizza log ever)An unexpected karaoke nightMeeting the legendary “Karaoke Cowboy”Secret plans to become a better golferWhat “rage bait” means—and why today’s kids are masters at itParenting lessons that come from keeping your coolPreparing for our first quiet weekend in months⚡ Episode Highlights “I have a whole new respect for golfers.” “We’re golf people now.” “The Karaoke Cowboy looked like he walked straight out of an old Western.” “One day I’m secretly taking golf lessons.” “If you’re going to rage bait me, I’m turning it into a life lesson.” 🎙️ Chapters 00:00 – Becoming Golf People 03:15 – Father’s Day on the Fairway 08:10 – The Best Father’s Day Gift 11:40 – Anchor Bar & The Pizza Log Incident 15:30 – Stumbling Into Karaoke Night 18:45 – Meet the Karaoke Cowboy 25:00 – Why We Keep Coming Back to Karaoke 29:30 – Understanding “Rage Bait” Parenting 34:30 – A Rare Quiet Weekend Ahead 37:00 – Closing Thoughts 🎤 Sound Bites “Golf is way harder than it looks.”“We’re golf people now.”“The Karaoke Cowboy was everything you’d hope he’d be.”“That pizza log almost ended Father’s Day.”“Kids don’t just push buttons anymore—they call it rage bait.”“Turn the attitude into a lesson.”🔑 Keywords Herm’s House Podcast, Father’s Day, golf, beginner golf, Topgolf, karaoke, parenting podcast, marriage podcast, family podcast, karaoke night, Anchor Bar, golf lessons, parenting teenagers, rage bait, funny family stories, husband and wife podcast, veteran family, comedy podcast, Tucson Arizona, family life 🤝 THANK YOU TO OUR SPONSORSANCHOR FINANCIAL SOLUTIONS GROUP, LLC 🌐 www.anchorfinancialsolutionsgroup.com 📍 2544 E. 10th Street, Tucson, AZ 85716 📞 520-620-5320 BEAUTIFUL SUNDAY MARKETING COLLECTIVE Thank you for supporting Herm’s House Podcast and helping us continue sharing stories about marriage, parenting, family, and the everyday moments that bring us together. 📌 Support the ShowIf you enjoyed this episode: ⭐ Leave us a review 👍 Like this episode 💬 Tell us in the comments: Have you ever accidentally discovered a new hobby… or met your own version of the “Karaoke Cowboy?” 🎤⛳ Be sure to subscribe and follow @HermsHousePodcast for new episodes every week.
