Teacher Turns Activist Against Extremism in NYC w/ Karen Feldman

Karen Feldman explores the systemic issues of antisemitism and social justice extremism within New York City's public schools. With nearly 30 years of experience in Holocaust education, Karen shares her insights on the challenges educators face and the urgent need for reform. She discusses her personal journey and dedication to Holocaust education, the rise of systemic antisemitism and social justice ideology in schools, changes in educational policies and practices since 2018, the role of equity leaders and DEI initiatives, formation and mission of the New York City Public Schools Alliance and findings from the NCRI report on educational bias. Guest Bio Karen Feldman is a veteran New York public middle school history teacher with over 26 years of experience, widely recognized for her impactful Holocaust curricula that promote tolerance and combat prejudice. Her dedication to Holocaust and human rights education earned her the 2023 Louis E. Yavner Teaching Award, one of New York State's highest honors in education. Following the October 7th attacks, Karen co-founded and now leads the NYCPS Alliance, a coalition of over 2,000 educators, parents, students, and allies committed to combating antisemitism in public schools. Under her leadership, the alliance has built a comprehensive system to track incidents of hate and assess educational content using advanced AI algorithms, cataloging over 8,000 pieces of evidence. In partnership with the NCRI, the Alliance recently released Entryism Exposed, a groundbreaking report investigating antisemitic, anti-Israel, and anti-American biases in NYC public schools, revealing alarming trends of ideological indoctrination and inadequate oversight within the DOE. The report, the result of extensive interviews and curriculum analysis, calls for urgent reform and provides tools for detecting harmful, terror-funded educational materials. Join us in advocating for educational reform and awareness.
