    The Archeology of Self is a racial literacy development model created by Dr. Yolanda Sealey-Ruiz which involves the self-exploration, probing, and understanding of where issues of race and racism live within. It requires that teachers personalize race and recognize how it influences their pedagogy. Dr. Sealey-Ruiz joins us today to increase our racial literacy knowledge, and to support our work in creating equitable schools for Black and Brown students.

    S2E2 - Critical Love in the Classroom

    This episode is focused on critical love. What does it look like? What does it mean to show up for students in ways that support their humanity, and undo harmful classroom dynamics? The opening segment of the episode explores what an absence of love looks like in a classroom. While the closing segment explains what practices reflect the presence of critical love. The episode ends with reflection questions to help you further explore critical love.

    S2E3 - Critical Humility: Caminando, Preguntando

    This episode is about embracing critical humility to develop our racial literacies.  The episode’s title, caminando, preguntando, which translates to questioning as we walk, reflects the ways teachers must grow knowledge of themselves by questioning the limits of our own worldviews and ideologies.  We explore three questions: how do I accept that there are limits to my knowledge? What are the characteristics of a humble educator?  How do I broaden my horizon as an educator? These questions invite us to practice what Dr. Sealey-Ruiz conceptualizes as critical humility.

    S2E6 - How Far Will You Go? Teacher as Interrupter and Historical Literacy

    The final two components of the archeology of self encourages teachers to interrupt oppression and embrace the historical legacies of justice movements.  Ana and Wideline examine the dangers of “good intentions” and the “status quo” and conclude with insights into history being our guide into action and conquering fears of doing equity work in this current political climate.
