1 Corinthians: Why Paul Wrote To Corinth And Why It Still Matters

Corinth isn’t just an ancient city, it’s a mirror. A diverse, wealthy port packed with status games and competing loyalties produced a church that looked gifted on the outside and fractured on the inside. We sit with Paul’s opening words to the Corinthians and feel the tension: the church is supposed to be about Jesus, but it can turn into a place where people fight, flex, and blend in with the surrounding culture. We connect Corinth’s chaos to ours with uncomfortable clarity. Pornography gets treated like food. Rage becomes entertainment. Christians battle on social media, and intimacy gets rewritten into whatever feels convenient, even to the point of AI systems that simulate a romantic partner. Paul’s letter lands as hope, not because the problems are small, but because God writes to real Christians with real mess and still calls them saints, set apart by grace.  Why does Paul start with warmth before correction? Why does authority matter when someone speaks hard truth into your life? We talk about choosing people with real credibility and spiritual fruit, not just loud opinions, and about finding friends who bring water instead of gasoline. Finally, we anchor on two reminders: God is generous with spiritual gifts we did not earn, and our Father gives us the strength to finish well. You can wear the “Jesus jersey” without pretending you saved yourself, and you can repent without living in fear that God will give away your seat at the table. If you’ve been carrying shame, cynicism, or exhaustion with church, press play and let the gospel reset your center. Matthew 7:21-27 Built On The Rock

A lie can feel like a life raft right up until the storm shows up. We start with a haunting modern example, the rise of AI “ghosts” and the way we’ll do almost anything to avoid grief, discomfort, and goodbye, then we connect it to a deeper spiritual habit: building our lives on stories that sound comforting but cannot hold our weight.  From there, we land in Matthew 7:21-27, the final warnings of the Sermon on the Mount, where Jesus confronts empty religion head-on. “Lord, Lord” isn’t the same as knowing him, and impressive spiritual activity isn’t the same as obedience. We talk about how foundations get exposed over time, why even good things like success, talent, and achievement can become quicksand, and how storms and temptation reveal what we actually trust. If you’ve ever wondered what “build your house on the rock” means in everyday life, this is as practical as it gets.  We also zoom out to the bigger claim underneath it all: Jesus doesn’t teach with borrowed authority, he speaks as the Word made flesh. That means his commands aren’t random burdens, they’re the design specs from the Creator who can’t lie and won’t fail you. If you feel like you’ve been faking it, drifting, or propping up a shaky faith, you’ll hear a clear invitation to repent, count the cost, and step onto a foundation that stands.  Subscribe for more, share this with someone who’s going through a storm, and leave a review if this helped you rebuild on something solid. Anxiety Is A Signal

Anxiety doesn’t always show up as a panic attack. Sometimes it looks like perfectionism, procrastination, people pleasing, or checking your bank account over and over just to feel steady for five seconds. We sit with that reality and bring it to Matthew 6:25-34, where Jesus says “do not worry” to people who actually have reasons to worry: a poor, marginalized crowd living day to day under occupation. That context changes everything. We talk about anxiety as an alarm system God designed for protection, and what happens when the alarm won’t shut off. We also make a clear, compassionate distinction between everyday worry and severe, chronic anxiety, naming therapy and medication as real tools of grace with zero shame attached. Along the way, we keep coming back to a grounding refrain: anxiety can be a signal, but it cannot be your shepherd. Then we follow Jesus’ logic through the birds and wildflowers, the story of Hagar in the wilderness, and a string of biblical moments where anxious control leads people to forget who is in the boat with them. The turning point is simple and challenging: our needs are real, but they cannot become our gods. When control climbs onto the throne, faith calls us back to “seek first the kingdom of God,” and to let Jesus be the one who defines our safety and worth. If you’re tired of suffering tomorrow twice, press play, share this with someone carrying heavy worry, and subscribe so you don’t miss what’s next. After you listen, will you leave a review and tell us what your anxiety keeps trying to control? Support the show
