Proper Hardcore - The Gridiron Breakdown

Jay is joined by longtime collaborator Brian for a no-holds-barred look at the college football landscape as we reach the two-month mark of the season. It's time to revisit those preseason predictions, confront the things we got spectacularly wrong, and offer a few mea culpas. There's even a chance for the other guy to challenge your excuses. Because accountability is important. Unless you picked Oklahoma.Check out Brian's Work:Brian's Vinyl Records BriansVinylRecords on FB, Threads and InstagramBrianThomas BVR on XBox Cards & Collectibles on FBboxcardscollectibles on Tik Tok, Instagram and ThreadsWe'll also hand out our midseason honors, debating the most impressive team and player of the season before diving into The Weekly Six, our breakdown of six games worth watching:BYU at Utah: The Mountain Showdown. Is Utah genuinely the better team, or is BYU ready to settle an old score?UCLA at Minnesota: Are the Bruins legitimate national championship contenders, or have the pesky Gophers found a blueprint for an upset?Alabama at LSU: The Game of Last Century. Can LSU finally get past the Crimson Tide when it matters?Air Force at Army: Service academy football, where possessions are precious, clocks are running, and every drive feels like a hostage negotiation.Kentucky at Tennessee: Can the Wildcats prove they're for real in Neyland Stadium, or will Tennessee's defense have the final word?Miami at Notre Dame: The Game of the Week. Is Miami the nation's best team, and can Notre Dame keep its College Football Playoff hopes alive? And because there's always more football to discuss, we'll wrap things up with a look at the NFL season so far.Coaching changes, playoff implications, preseason predictions gone sideways, rivalry games, and a healthy dose of football nonsense.Proper Hardcore. Football talk for the fans, by the fans.

We Thought We Knew Ball - The Gridiron Breakdown Week Six CFB Previews + NFL

We thought we knew ball. Turns out… maybe not as much as we thought. On this episode of The Gridiron Breakdown, The OG Breakdown Boys (Jay and Alan) revisit some of our preseason and early-season assumptions about college football and the NFL and see which takes have aged like fine wine—and which ones should probably be buried forever. We start with the things we thought we knew that are proving to be true, including the increasingly painful reality that a bad offense paired with a great defense can only take a football team so far and the shocking realization that the AFC South may be even worse than we imagined. Then we flip the script and revisit the things we thought would be true that are looking very, very wrong. Are Texas, Oregon, and USC actually legitimate College Football Playoff and national championship contenders? And what happened to the idea that Justin Herbert + Mike McDaniel would be a match made in football heaven? Let's just say… fools' gold. We'll also pull out the preseason College Football Playoff picks and see where we nailed it, where we completely missed, and whether our original predictions still have a chance of surviving the season. And then it's time for Six Rounds of Lightning, featuring six huge games with major College Football Playoff, conference, and national implications: 🏈 #2 Georgia at #6 Alabama 🏈 #7 Indiana at Nebraska 🏈 #10 LSU at Kentucky 🏈 #1 Texas vs. Oklahoma 🏈 North Dakota State at UNLV 🏈 #19 USC at Penn State It's college football picks, playoff predictions, NFL analysis, hot takes, hindsight, and a healthy dose of admitting when we were dead wrong. This is The Gridiron Breakdown—football talk for the fans, by the fans.
