    From Cuba to Florida: The Incredible Story of Stewie the Studio Dog

Stewie may be a little Havapoo, but he carries a big piece of Florida and Cuban history with him. The Havanese, Cuba's national dog and only native breed, traces its roots back to small Bichon-type dogs brought to Cuba by Spanish settlers and traders centuries ago. These little dogs thrived in Cuba's tropical climate and eventually became treasured companions of Cuban families and aristocracy. But then came the 1959 Cuban Revolution, and the Havanese nearly disappeared from its homeland. As Cuban families fled the island, only a handful of these dogs made it out. Some were brought to Florida, helping preserve the breed and ultimately ensuring that the Havanese survived. That remarkable story of exile, survival and resilience eventually leads us right here to Florida—and to Stewie! We'll talk about Stewie's Havapoo heritage, the fascinating history of the Havanese, Cuba's connection to Florida, and why this little dog has become such an important member of the Palm & Pine family.
