Learning to Treasure and Obey God’s Word | Adam Castenir | Grace Heartland Lead Pastor

Psalm 119 — David doesn't say he knows he should read God's Word; he says he loves it, and he invites us to seek God there. Adam Castiner brings a standalone message on God's Word at Severns Valley. Why does David delight in the Bible so much? Because it is the Word of God, and because every page is about God, pointing us to who He is and what He has done in Jesus. From there, we're invited to make room for it, with a simple habit: pray before you read, consider as you read, and practice what you read. And when we come up short, as David does in the psalm's final verse, we find that the Shepherd has already come looking for us. A few things to carry into your week: - The Bible is the Word of God and the word about God, so before asking "what does this say about me?", ask what it says about Him. - Read the Bible more days than you don't. You don't need an hour a day, only a steady rhythm, and sometimes discipline is what leads to delight. - Pray before you read, then consider what you read by asking what it shows you about God, about people, and how you're to love both. - We don't have an information problem so much as an obedience one. Ask what you can do today in response to what you just read. "Are you reading the Bible to get through it, or are you letting it get through to you?" Overview of Ephesians | Matt Beasley

Ephesians 1–6 — You were chosen in him, made alive by grace, and sealed by his Spirit — now what does a church that actually lives that way look like? Lead Pastor Matt Beasley concludes A Study Through Ephesians at Severns Valley. Working through the whole book as a capstone, this sermon traces six marks of a Spirit-filled church — one for each chapter of Ephesians. A Spirit-filled church rests in God's choosing rather than striving to prove its own worth. It lives by grace, found in its deadness and rescued by a God who draws near in mercy. It shines the manifold wisdom of God so brightly that even the heavenly powers take notice. It grows together toward Christ — not individually, but as a body that holds one another accountable and presses toward maturity in community. It defers to one another out of reverence for Christ, even across real disagreement. And it stands firm — not because it has set its mind to it, but because it is a people sealed with a promise and covered in the armor of God. A few things to carry into your week: • You are really a Christian not because of what you've done, but because you are chosen in him — and when the accuser says otherwise, that's the answer. • Being found by God in your deadness isn't nakedness and shame; it's being found and rescued. • Maturing in Christ is not a solo endeavor — it requires all of us, growing up together into Jesus as the head. • Deference to one another across disagreement isn't easy, but it is exactly what a Spirit-filled church is called to — and staying when you're offended is part of what that looks like. "What would it look like for your church to shine so brightly that even the heavenly powers had to take notice?" October 4, 2026 ——— New here, or ready to take a next step? Ambassador for Christ | Matt Beasley

Ephesians 6:18–24 — Prayer was never meant to be a transition between the "real" parts of life; it's access to the King who made you. Lead Pastor Matt Beasley continues A Study Through Ephesians at Severns Valley. Coming out of the armor of God, Paul calls us to pray at all times, in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication, and for all the saints. That means praying through every season, not only the hard ones, and trusting the Spirit to carry what we don't know how to say. It also means knowing our church family well enough to pray for them by name, lifting up pastors and churches across our community, and living as ambassadors for Christ wherever God has placed us. Paul closes the letter with grace for all who love Jesus with a love that never decays. A few things to carry into your week: - Get off the prayer roller coaster. God invites you to pray in every season, not just when life gets heavy. - When you don't know what to pray, the Spirit intercedes for you according to the will of God, so you don't have to find perfect words. - Adoration, confession, thanksgiving, and supplication give your prayers shape. Confession means agreeing with God about your sin, and it sets you free instead of adding punishment. - You can't pray well for people you don't know. Praying for all the saints starts with being known, whether that's in a home group, a midweek study, or a coffee with the person you sit beside. "Who are you praying for besides yourself, and do you know them well enough to pray specifically?" September 27, 2026 ——— New here, or ready to take a next step? His Victory, Our Stand | Matt Beasley

Ephesians 6:10–20 — The armor God gives us was never meant for fighting each other; it's for standing together against the real enemy. Lead Pastor Matt Beasley continues A Study Through Ephesians at Severns Valley. Paul moves from the household to the battlefield: be strong in the Lord, not in ten spiritual push-ups a morning, but in a community that knows each other's weaknesses and carries them together. The armor of God isn't new equipment — it's a picture of who we already are in Christ, put on so we remember we're not alone and not self-sufficient. Our real fight isn't against people — spouses, kids, coworkers, even public figures we're quick to label — but against the spiritual forces behind the pain they cause, and the enemy loves nothing more than watching Christians tear into each other while calling it righteousness. A few things to carry into your week: - We're not meant to stand alone — real strength comes from a community that knows our weaknesses and surrounds us in them. - The enemy wins when bitterness, unforgiveness, and division take root inside the church, not just outside it. - Faith isn't in our own resolve — it's the shield that holds because of what Jesus has already done. - God's Word is the one weapon we're given, meant to rescue and lift up — never to bludgeon each other. "Are you aiming your armor at the enemy, or at the person sitting next to you in the pew?" September 20, 2026 ——— New here, or ready to take a next step? Who Are You Really Working For? | Matt Beasley

Ephesians 6:5–9 — Who Are You Really Working For? Paul steps into the master-and-slave relationships of the first century and reorients them completely around one shared Master in heaven. Lead Pastor Matt Beasley continues A Study Through Ephesians at Severns Valley. Paul tells those under authority to obey not as people-pleasers working only when someone's watching, but as those serving Christ from the heart — and he tells masters to drop the threats and treat the people under them as fellow image-bearers, because the true Master shows zero partiality between the two. Along the way, the sermon walks through Joseph's story in Potiphar's house as a picture of what it looks like to work in a way that lets people see God — whatever room, job, or season of life you find yourself in. A few things to carry into your week: - Whether you supervise people or answer to someone else, the real question is who you're actually working for — recognition and promotion, or Jesus. - "Eye-service" is working hard only when someone's watching; bond-service to Christ looks the same whether anyone sees or not. - Authority in Christ is never an excuse for threats or partiality — the people under you are equally made in God's image. - Whatever season you're in — student, early career, retired, stay-at-home — your work is a place to worship, not just to earn. "Are you working to be noticed, or working as an act of worship to the King who already sees you?" September 13, 2026 ——— New here, or ready to take a next step? Spirit Filled Parenting | Matt Beasley

Ephesians 6:1–4 — Paul turns to the smallest, most overlooked voices in the room — the kids — and hands parents a charge that's bigger than good behavior: raise them in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. Lead Pastor Matt Beasley continues A Study Through Ephesians at Severns Valley. Everything here still flows from being filled with the Spirit and submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ — so Paul speaks directly to children, a group with no standing at all in first-century society, and gives their honor and obedience real weight. Then he turns to parents, steering them away from two ditches — neglect on one side, controlling every decision on the other — and toward discipline and instruction that actually equips kids for life. He grounds the whole thing in Hebrews 12: God disciplines the children he loves, painful in the moment, but producing a harvest of righteousness later. A few things to carry into your week: - The whole household code flows from one command — be filled with the Spirit. Parent in your own strength and you'll land in either harsh moralizing or exhaustion. - Paul speaks directly to children — honor and obedience aren't an afterthought, they're a real calling with real weight. - Good parenting avoids two ditches: burying your head in the sand, or locking kids down so tight they never learn to make a choice. - God disciplines the children he loves the same way he asks us to reflect at home — painful now, but yielding the peaceful fruit of righteousness later (Hebrews 12:10-11). Joined for a Purpose | Brian Combs

Ephesians 5:21–33 — Submission isn't a leash the strong hand to the weak; it's the shape of a Spirit-filled life, given and returned. Brian Combs continues A Study Through Ephesians at Severns Valley. Picking up right where Matt left off with being filled with the Spirit, Brian shows how that fullness works itself out in verse 21: submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ — a call for everyone in the room, not just wives. He walks through what that submission actually looks like in a marriage, sharing his own story of trusting God through a season of uncertain provision, then unpacks how Paul reframes headship — not authority that takes, but love that gives itself up, the way Christ gave himself for the church. From there he traces "leave and hold fast" back to Genesis, showing marriage as a picture of the gospel itself, meant to put something on display for the world. A few things to carry into your week: - Submission flows out of being filled with the Spirit — it isn't forced from the outside, it's offered from within. - Biblical headship looks like Christ's: love that gives itself up, not authority that takes. - "Leave and hold fast" is strong, covenant language — our marriages are meant to take priority over every other claim on us. - Marriage isn't just about us — it's a picture of the gospel, on display for the world to see. Don’t Be Foolish | Matt Beasley

Ephesians 5:15–21 — Paul says look carefully how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, because the days are evil. Lead Pastor Matt Beasley continues A Study Through Ephesians at Severns Valley. Paul calls us back to a whole-life kind of walking, one that's careful and deliberate rather than careless, because every part of life, work, home, friendships, money, time, is lived either in submission to Jesus or without it. Because the days are evil, we're called to make the best use of our time and to understand what the will of the Lord is, not as a formula to crack but as a life poured out for people who are lost and need to be found. Instead of being controlled by anything else, whether that's alcohol, food, sex, or whatever we hand power over to, we're called to be filled with the Spirit again and again, which shows up in how we sing to one another and how we give thanks. A few things to carry into your week: Being careful in how you walk is tiring and takes discipline, but being careless isn't neutral, it has real consequences. Redeeming the time means living so the people around you, who are lost and need Jesus, see something true in how you spend your life. Understanding God's will isn't about guessing the "right" option, it's pursuing a life poured out for others. Being filled with the Spirit is a repeated, ongoing surrender, not a one-time event, and it shapes how we worship and give thanks together.
