3.10 Michaela: Being the advocate for your health

I am so excited to welcome to the podcast this week my friend Michaela. We met back in the early 2010s when she started dating a good friend of mine and have so loved watching them grow their family and footprint on Nebraska. Michaela grew up in Minnesota before moving to Nebraska to own her very own chiropractic clinic. Her experiences in school and in life shaped the type of clinic she wanted to run and her journey in motherhood continue to shape the decisions she makes for her team to this day. As a parent and a medical professional she sees the value in looking at each person as a whole considering every factor and their goals before making recommendations for someones healthcare. She is a huge advocate for women’s health now owning two businesses pushing toward that mission. Michaela and I talk all about her journey into being the health care professional she is today, how motherhood has shaped her decisions and all about the businesses she runs. She shares about what she sees missing in a lot of peoples understanding of their health care including, your Bodies ability to heal, your ownership over the decisions of your body and how health care is really each decision you make every day that allows you to live the life you want to be living. 3.7 Dell: Building a Healthier Community

This week I have a very special guest with me on the podcast. Dell and I worked together at the University of Nebraska becoming fast friends and programming partners as we pushed to make change for future scholars. Dell was a person of accountability in my life asking the right questions as the right time to keep me moving forward toward my goals. Dell grew up in Omaha Nebraska learning from an early age that community is the core of everything. As a kid his track coaches helped him see that his impact could extend far beyond the field and classroom. Dell speaks highly of those who influenced him through his life and opened the door to opportunities for him to not only learn but also make an impact on others. Through his years at TCU as a student, his time working as an admissions professional and now leading a team focused on workforce excellence for the Omaha Chamber, he is taking all he has learned and helping to build up and craft opportunities for others. Dell and I talk all about his experiences and how they shaped his prospective. How he and his incredible wife have taken an idea to make local and thoughtful toys and grown it into a maker’s market highlighting underrepresented own business from the local community. He shares about the initiates he is leading with the chamber to keep and bring young talent to Omaha and then helps give a road map for each of us to follow as we think about getting involved and being a part of making our own communities healthier and stronger. If you are interested in learning more about the Melanin Marked or about how you can make an impact on your community check out the links that Dell provided below. 3.5 Melissa Rodway: Travel, Health and "The People you Meet"

This week I have a very exciting guest who I first connected with back over the holidays. Melissa Rodway grew up in Ontario Canada and is a lover of adventure, travel and experiences. This passion found its start when she was just 6 years old and her father participated in a teacher exchange taking the family over to Australia for a year to live in a small town outside of Perth. The experience of a new culture and different norms half a world away from her home ignited a lifetime of taking off on new adventures. As an adult Melissa has traveled to dozens of countries engaging in active travel experience from hiking to cycling and everything in between. Melissa is a firm believer that the people you meet along your travels have a deep impact on the experiences and memories you carry forward and has recently published a book all about the people she met along the way during a four-month trip around Southeast Asia that she took in her mid-thirties. Melissa and I talk all about her book, developing her travel rhythm, some of her favorite and most challenging travel experiences and how travel ego can hurt more than help the adventure. We get into the details talking about how to fine healthy balance while traveling, how to avoid travel fatigue, and how to get the most out of each experience. 3.4 Caitlin: Creativity of Vegan Eating

This week I have a very exciting guest who I was fortunate enough to record with in person in her cozy living room with our sweet pups as we talked all about Food, Vegan eating and the creativity of Cooking. Caitlin grew up in a small city outside Ann Arbor Michigan with her brother and parents. From the start she grew up eating a different diet than many of her peers and her chosen diet has evolved over the years influenced by her love of animals and the environment. She currently lives in the DC metro area and loves the incredible food diversity of her surrounding community having fun exploring flavors and bringing them into the creativity of her kitchen Cait and I dive deep into her journey with food and how her convictions made the choices easy but still left her with plenty to learn as she rounded out her plate every meal. As we chatted Vegan eating, we talked about so many food profiles, cookbooks and places where she has drawn inspiration. As a primarily plant-based vanlife girly I loved getting to sit down at Cait’s table for a week of tasty dinners expanding my own vegan recipe book while visiting her during my east coast spring. After chatting with Cait I got to snag her partner and my friend Matt for a few minutes to talk to him about his own experiences since meeting Cait with becoming a primary plant-based eater as well. If you are interested in any of the books or blogs mentioned by Caitlin check out the check out the links below for websites, titles and author details.
