Truckie Tuesday: Rod's Case Against Automatic Gearboxes, And Why Your Phone Can Be Confiscated On Compliance Mode

If you heard Tuesday's full episode, you have already had this one. This is the Truckie Tuesday on its own, for anyone who just wants the truck stuff. Rod Hannifey makes his case that automatic gearboxes took the skill out of driving a truck, and says he'll argue it with anyone. Luke and Rod also read your comments on truck stop showers, and Luke finds a pub at Merriwagga that leaves its shower open for truckies after hours. Can an officer take your phone if your electronic work diary is on it? Belinda Hughes from Hughes Law says strictly speaking they can, but only in specific circumstances. Then it's false or misleading entries, what to say when you're pulled over, and Darren Cooke's appeal to get his licence back. Belinda is acting for Darren, and Hughes Law sponsors Truckie Tuesday. On the road, a driver went to pass a heavy haulage float on the approach to a blind corner, and Rod called him up on the UHF afterwards for a quiet word. Man Cave: An Aviation Scientist Takes On Our Moon Landing Doubter

If you heard our full episode on 9 October, you have already had this one. This is the Man Cave with Dr Graham Wild on its own, for anyone who just wants the space talk. Adam McDonald from Aussie Pickers still isn't convinced we went to the Moon, and the Van Allen radiation belts are his sticking point. So Luke brings in Dr Graham Wild, a senior lecturer in aviation science and technology at UNSW Canberra, to take him on. Graham explains why NASA lost so much of its Apollo know-how, why nobody has landed there since 1972, and how a camera filmed Neil Armstrong's first step. Before that, he busts a Hollywood myth: a small hole in a plane won't suck you out. Plus air marshals, the Jetsons flying car we never got, and the G.I. Joe jet from Graham's childhood. How the Jim's Mowing founder built it from a lawn round and a debt

If you heard our full episode on 9 October, you have already had this one. This is Luke's chat with Jim Penman on its own, for anyone who just wants Jim. When nobody would back his ideas as an academic, Jim went back to mowing lawns full-time, about $35,000 in debt, he says, and by his own account terrible at managing his first subcontractors. He tells Luke how he turned it around, from selling lawn rounds to ringing the big Adelaide franchise and being told no thanks, and why he drew up a contract he wouldn't mind signing as a franchisee. Jim also explains the $700 contract fee he could have set far higher, why the business was his way of paying for his research into why civilisations rise and fall, and the argument in his new book with Andrea Pearson, Birth-Rate Crisis. Truckie Tuesday: No Fuel, No Shower? And Belinda's Tunnel Appeal

If you heard Tuesday's full episode, you have already had this one. This is the Truckie Tuesday on its own, for anyone who just wants the truck stuff. A driver tells Rod Hannifey he was refused a shower at a truck stop because he hadn't bought fuel, even after offering to buy food. Rod knows of only one truck stop with showers on his run to Adelaide, and he found a key-tag block he couldn't use because he doesn't cart livestock. Luke and Rod work through your mail, from radiator fixes with a raw egg or pepper to why caravans on the Nullarbor should leave gaps and show their UHF channel front and back. There's also a question for next week about EWD phones in compliance mode. Belinda Hughes from Hughes Law updates Danny's case, and her win of the week is an appeal she says cut a Transport for NSW registration suspension after a tunnel incident. Inside NSW jails with Nick: The cracked perspex and the threat to his family

If you heard our full episode on 2 October, you have already had this one. This is Luke's chat with Nick on its own, for anyone who just wants the prison stories. Nick was a NSW prison officer for 15 years, at Lithgow and at the women's jail at Emu Plains. In B unit, he watched an inmate crack the perspex with a pool ball, and he tells Luke why he says three months of training was mostly about paperwork. He explains why officers walk the yard unarmed and why he says they couldn't properly search visitors' prams. Then there's the inmate who threatened his family. Nick's view is that most prisoners don't want to be rehabilitated. The ones who do, like the woman who left jail a qualified chef, get there because they want the help, he says. It discusses sexual assault in prison, domestic violence and the death of a prison officer. 1800RESPECT: 1800 737 732 (24/7) Lifeline: 13 11 14 (24/7) In an emergency, call 000. 00:00 Should prisoners get a second chance? 01:46 Why the inmates called Nick Chief 02:45 Why he swapped his own business for a prison job 04:45 Trapped in B unit when the perspex cracked 07:14 Three months of training, signed off on paper 08:02 The officer who died at Silverwater 09:00 Double shifts and big overtime 10:31 His sister, assaulted at Parramatta Gaol 11:06 Unarmed in a yard of 30 inmates 13:40 Why officers couldn't search prams 14:48 Who really controls a jail? 16:22 Case management with no training 17:45 The inmates who care for injured wildlife 18:53 Should prisoners be paid $25 an hour? 19:30 The kiss that smuggled drugs into Lithgow 21:35 Corrupt officers: blue, not green 22:22 Why lifers are the easiest to manage 23:53 Why he'd rather work with maximum security men 25:10 What men fear most about going to jail 26:26 The inmate who walked out a chef 28:12 Knives in the kitchen and a Shawshank moment 29:55 Why are Indigenous Australians over-represented? 32:21 Do prisoners want to be rehabilitated? 34:08 The inmate who threatened his family 36:32 Seen as weak, or called a dog 38:30 The prisoners who come back for the security 40:16 Should prisoners have to work? 41:29 Get out of the job or I'm divorcing you 🫶 Join The Bonafide Family Get Your Bonafide Merch here: https://bonafidepod.com/en-aud Follow Me on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LukeBonaThatRadioGuy/ Catch Up On Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/lukey.bona/ Subscribe to us on YouTube to stay updated with LIVE SHOWS: 🎙️ Get Involved Leave us a digital voicemail here: https://www.speakpipe.com/Bonafide Call the Bonafide Hotline to leave a voicemail: (02) 9128 9311 Want to be a guest or suggest a topic?
