Ep 089: Should Christians Celebrate Halloween?

Should Christians celebrate Halloween? Is there anything actually wrong with dressing up, trick or treating, carving pumpkins, or handing out candy? Or should Christians avoid Halloween altogether because of its associations with darkness, witchcraft, and the occult? In this episode, we're talking through Halloween from a biblical perspective and asking how Christians should approach something the Bible doesn't directly address. We also get into an important conversation about personal convictions. What happens when one Christian feels completely comfortable participating in Halloween while another feels convicted not to? Can both be trying to honor God? And if God has been teaching you something that has changed your own convictions, how do you share that without judging everyone who hasn't come to the same conclusion? Ultimately, maybe the question isn't only, “Can I do this?” but, “How can I glorify God in this?” Whether you celebrate Halloween, skip it entirely, attend a church event instead, or are still trying to figure out where you stand, we hope this conversation encourages you to go back to Scripture, examine your own heart, and seek to honor Christ in whatever you decide. Topics discussed: Should Christians celebrate Halloween, Halloween and Christianity, Christian convictions, trick or treating, Halloween alternatives, Romans 14, personal convictions, Christian liberty, judging other Christians, glorifying God

Ep 088: Why Do Bad Decisions Feel Like Good Ideas?

Have you ever made a decision you KNEW was probably wrong... but somehow managed to convince yourself it was a good idea anyway? That's part of the deceitfulness of sin. Sin rarely presents itself as, “Hey, this is going to destroy you.” It looks appealing. It feels justified. We convince ourselves it's harmless, that this time is different, that God probably didn't really mean what He said, or that we'll deal with the consequences later. Sound familiar? It's the same strategy we see all the way back in Genesis 3. In this episode, we're talking about why sin is so deceptive, how Satan makes disobedience look reasonable, and why our emotions, desires, and impulses can become dangerous decision makers when they aren't submitted to God's truth. We also get practical about what to do in the moment of temptation. How can we recognize the lie before we've already made the decision? How do Scripture, prayer, accountability, wisdom, and simply fleeing temptation help us see clearly again? And when we DO fall, how should Christians respond? Sin makes promises it can't keep. Learning to recognize the lie can help us stop making decisions based on what feels good in the moment and start choosing what actually honors God. Topics discussed: deceitfulness of sin, temptation, bad decisions, Genesis 3, Satan's lies, resisting temptation, biblical decision making, following your heart, repentance, overcoming sin, Christian living

Ep 084: What Makes You Different? And Why Does That Matter?

What started as a random icebreaker turned into a whole conversation about our personalities, our quirks, our differences, and why God made us the way He did. God didn't make us all the same. We each have different personalities, strengths, interests, experiences, and gifts, yet Scripture tells us that we are all part of one body in Christ. Sometimes there may be nothing else that would naturally bring two people together, but when we have Christ in common, we have something worth loving about one another. We also talk about where we look for confidence. There are really three places we can try to find it: in ourselves, in the approval of other people, or in the approval of God. As Christians, our confidence cannot ultimately come from how impressive we are, how other people see us, or whether we fit in. It has to come from knowing who we are in Christ and living fully surrendered to Him. Our differences don't have to divide us. When Christ is what unites us, our differences can actually become part of what makes the body of Christ beautiful. So yes, we poke fun at each other, admit how different we are, and question whether we'd actually choose to be friends outside of the podcast. 😂 But underneath all of that is a pretty meaningful truth: God has brought us together, and we can love one another because of Him.If you've ever felt weird, different, out of place, or like you don't quite fit in, we hope this episode reminds you that being different isn't something you have to be ashamed of. God created you uniquely, and your identity is ultimately found in Him. Topics discussed: Christian identity, confidence, approval, being different, individuality, personality, uniqueness, the body of Christ, unity in the church, loving other Christians, identity in Christ, finding confidence in God, Christian community, surrender to Christ
