Things I Wish I Knew Sooner: Stop Proving Your Worth, Stop Hiding in Healing, and Start Actually Living

Episode Summary: In this episode Kim gets real about the patterns she spent years living inside without even realizing it. This one is for the woman who has been doing the work, consuming the content, getting the certifications, and still feels like something isn't shifting. Kim breaks down three of the most confronting truths she had to face on her own journey -- and why facing them changed everything. What We Cover: 1. You don't have to prove your worth.Kim shares how she spent years believing she was confident and didn't care what people thought -- while her behaviors told a completely different story. Overgiving, overexplaining, overcompensating. The moment she realized that proving your worth has a feeling attached to it -- pressure, fear of losing something -- everything started to reorganize. 2. You're not confused. You're avoiding. One of the most honest and uncomfortable truths in this episode. Kim breaks down how confusion became her cover story for avoiding decisions she already knew the answer to. Including the one question that unlocks your subconscious when you are convinced you have no idea what to do -- "If I thought I did know the answer, what would it be?" 3. Healing can become a hiding place.Reading the books without doing the practices. Listening to the podcasts without applying the principles. Staying in the I'm still preparing phase as a sophisticated form of avoidance. Kim breaks down how she used personal development as a way to feel productive without actually moving forward -- and what finally snapped her out of it. Key Quotes From This Episode: "Most of the time we're not confused. We're just avoiding what we already know to be true." "Proving your worth has a feeling attached to it. It feels like pressure. Like if I don't do this I lose something." "Healing can feel like you're doing something right -- but at some point I stopped moving forward because I wasn't applying the principles I had learned." "We don't grow through reading and journaling alone. We grow through action combined with those things." "What are you pretending not to know?" Imposter Syndrome Explained: Why High Achievers Still Doubt Themselves with Dr. Angela Trego

Why do so many capable, intelligent, high-achieving people still feel like they do not belong? In this episode of Own Your Shift with Kim, Kim sits down with Dr. Angela Trego — rocket scientist, patent-holding engineer, professor, author, and speaker — to break down what imposter syndrome really is, why it happens, and how it quietly affects success, confidence, visibility, and personal growth. This conversation goes beyond surface-level confidence talk. Dr. Trego explains how imposter syndrome is often less about actual capability and more about how people interpret growth, pressure, success, and new environments. She also shares how her own experience working at Boeing helped shape her understanding of self-doubt and eventually led her to help others move through it in a practical, lasting way. In this episode, we cover: What imposter syndrome actually isWhy it is not just a “women’s issue”How identity plays a major role in self-doubtWhy success can actually trigger imposter syndromeHow the nervous system responds when you feel like you do not belongThe subtle signs of imposter syndrome in high performersHow overpreparing, overworking, and downplaying wins can keep people stuckSimple tools to help separate feelings from facts and build real confidence If you have ever questioned your value, minimized your accomplishments, or felt like everyone else belongs except you, this episode will hit home. You are not behind. You are not unqualified. And you are not the only one who has felt this way. When Your Light Reveals the Shadow: Why Growth Can Feel Like It’s Breaking You

What if the reason everything feels harder after a breakthrough… is because you’re actually seeing more clearly? In this episode, Kim talks about something that doesn’t get said enough in personal growth spaces: sometimes the more awareness you gain, the more uncomfortable things feel. Not because you’re failing. Not because you’re going backward. But because your light is revealing what was already there. This conversation is for the person who’s had a breakthrough, only to find themselves more triggered, more emotional, or more aware of old patterns than ever before. Kim breaks down why this happens, what it really means, and how to work with those moments instead of making them mean something has gone wrong. Inside this episode: Why deeper awareness can feel like everything is falling apartWhat it really means when new layers keep coming upHow your “light” reveals the hidden patterns underneath the surfaceWhy shadow work is not about fixing yourselfA simple integration practice to help you listen to what your body is trying to tell youHow to stop judging your healing and start understanding itIf you’ve been in a season where growth feels messy, raw, or heavier than expected, this episode will remind you that you’re not broken and you’re not doing it wrong. If this episode resonated with you, share it with someone who needs the reminder that growth is not always graceful, but it is still growth. Follow us @ownyourshift_kim

You See the Pattern… So Why Aren’t You Changing? (The Missing Piece No One Teaches)

Have you ever thought: “I know why I’m reacting like this… so why can’t I change it?” In this episode of Own Your Shift with Kim, we’re talking about one of the most frustrating parts of personal growth: 👉 You’ve done the work👉 You’ve built awareness👉 You can see your patterns clearly …but your body still reacts the same way. You still get triggered. You still feel the anxiety. You still fall into the same emotional loops. So what’s going on? This episode breaks down the real reason awareness alone doesn’t create change—and the missing piece that most people are never taught. Because the truth is: 👉 Awareness lives in the mind👉 But change happens in the body And if you’re only working at the level of the mind, you’ll keep repeating the same patterns—even when you know better. • Why you can understand your triggers but still react the same way• The difference between awareness and integration• How your nervous system drives your reactions (not logic)• Why your body responds faster than your mind• The exact reason you feel “stuck” in your healing journey If you’ve ever felt like:“I should be past this by now…” You’re not broken. You’re not doing it wrong. You’ve just been missing one key tool:👉 Pattern interruption in the moment In this episode, Kim shares a simple but powerful 2-minute reset practice you can use when you feel triggered to: • Interrupt the automatic reaction• Regulate your nervous system• Create space between stimulus and response• Start rewiring your patterns in real time You don’t need more awareness. You need to learn how to work with your body while the reaction is happening. Because change doesn’t happen when you’re calm and reflecting… It happens in the moment you would normally react. The next time you feel triggered: Pause.Breathe.Notice what your body is doing. And instead of judging it…Ask: 👉 “What is my body trying to tell me right now?” That’s where the shift begins. If this episode resonated with you, share it with someone who might need this tool today. And if you try the 2-minute reset, DM me on Instagram @ownyourshift_kim — I’d love to hear your experience.

Your Brain Doesn’t Know You’re Talking About Them: How Judging Others Shapes Your Reality

What if the reason you “keep attracting the same kind of people” isn’t actually about them? In this episode, I’m breaking down something that hit me like a brick: your brain doesn’t carefully separate your words as being about someone else. So when you repeat stories like “people are needy,” “friends always disappoint me,” “I don’t have good friends,” your nervous system can start wiring those statements like they’re about you… and then your brain scans for proof to keep the story alive. This isn’t about toxic positivity. It’s not “stop judging people.” That’s too surface-level. This is about awareness—and how your repeated language becomes a lens… and that lens becomes your reality. The question: “What kind of people do you attract?” and why your answer matters How “casual” generalizations become identity statements The RAS (reticular activating system) and why your brain hunts for confirmation Why saying “people are needy” can train your nervous system to experience relationships as draining My personal pattern: “I don’t have good friends” and the uncomfortable truth underneath it How labels can become armor: protection disguised as logic The hidden payoff: independence can feel powerful… but also isolating The difference between one critical thought vs. building a whole worldview The question that changed everything for me: Is this proof… or is this protection? How to shift without gaslighting yourself or forcing fake positivity The next time you catch yourself saying: “People always…” “I always…” “They’re just so…” Pause and ask: Is this reality… or is this a rehearsal? And if it’s a rehearsal—do I still want to practice it? If this episode hit a nerve (or pissed you off a little 👀), I want to hear from you. DM me on Instagram: @ownyourshift_kim And if you know someone stuck in the same repeating patterns, send this episode to them. In this episode, we talk about:A simple practice for this weekLet’s talk about it
