Dr. Arcot on Breaking the Cycle of Abuse, Poverty, and Systemic Barriers to Women's Freedom

Send us Fan Mail CONNECT WITH DR. VANDANA ARCOT Linkedin : https://www.linkedin.com/in/drvandanarcot/ We tell women in abusive relationships to leave. But what happens when there is nowhere safe to go? Leaving abuse is not simply a matter of finding the courage to walk away. Without safe housing, financial resources, childcare, healthcare, and legal protection, leaving can mean facing another set of impossible choices. So what does it take to build real pathways to safety, independence, and a life beyond survival? In this episode, host Sara Kliss welcomes physician, global health strategist, and women's advocate Dr. Vandana Arcot for a conversation about women's safety, systemic barriers, and the role of philanthropy in creating lasting change. Together, Sara and Dr. Arcot explore why telling women to leave is not enough, how invisible burdens continue to hold women back, and what it takes to build the infrastructure that allows survivors and their communities to thrive. EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS 1. From Medicine to Systemic Change Dr. Arcot began her career as a physician, treating patients individually. But her experiences, including witnessing women living with HIV face illness, stigma, isolation, and barriers to care, revealed a deeper problem. 2. We Tell Women to Leave. But Where Can They Go? Leaving an abusive relationship is often presented as the solution. But what happens when a woman has nowhere safe to go, no financial independence, no childcare, and no reliable protection? 3. The Invisible Burdens Women Carry From unpaid care work and the motherhood penalty to period poverty and the psychological effects of chronic stress, many of the challenges women face remain largely unrecognized. 4. Philanthropy That Builds Lasting Change Dr. Arcot founded Komselj to connect philanthropic capital with women-led community projects and organizations creating meaningful impact. 5. Building Exits, Not Just Managing Emergencies Dr. Arcot has emphasized the importance of building exits as carefully as an abuser built the cage. Sara asks what this means in practice, particularly for shelters and organizations supporting survivors. Are we giving women the resources to rebuild their lives, or are we only funding emergency responses? Together, they examine what it takes to create pathways to safety, independence, and long-term stability. 6. When Nonprofits and Donors Choose Each Other Funding relationships are often approached as though nonprofits should simply be grateful for financial support. Dr. Arcot challenges this assumption. 7. Connecting Business With Women's Livelihoods Through VUND, Dr. Arcot has also worked to connect business with women-led livelihoods. 8. The Future of Women's Safety and Empowerment As the conversation comes to a close, Sara asks Dr. Arcot about the work she is building next and her vision for women and communities around the world. From healthcare and philanthropy to economic independence and survivor support, what needs to change to create a world where women have more than the ability to survive? And what can each of us do to help make that future possible? So what makes the difference between knowing what you want and being able to make it happen?  In this episode, host Sara Kliss welcomes speaker and entrepreneur Sabrina Shafer for a conversation about influence, effective communication, and the psychology of taking action. Together, Sara and Sabrina explore how fear shapes our decisions, why the way we communicate matters, and what it takes to move from preparing for success to actively creating it. EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS 1. The Woman Before the Success Sabrina reflects on growing up without influence, access, or financial security, and the experiences that shaped her sense of possibility. How do you learn to see possibilities for yourself when your circumstances have given you little reason to believe in them? 2. Why the Best Idea Doesn’t Always Win Being knowledgeable does not automatically make you persuasive. Having something valuable to say does not guarantee that people will listen. Sara and Sabrina explore human behavior, the psychology of influence, and why communication can determine whether an idea gains support or gets overlooked. They also examine how gender may shape the way influence is expressed and received. When you speak, are you explaining what you know, or helping people understand why it matters to them? 3. Turning Fear Into Action What if waiting until you feel ready is the very thing keeping you stuck? The conversation examines how fear can show up as procrastination, perfectionism, and endless preparation. Sara asks Sabrina what it takes to turn that fear into momentum and why moving through uncertainty is central to her work. Are you still preparing because you need more information, or because taking action means risking an outcome you cannot control? 4. Personal Branding & Communicating Your Value Working hard and being good at what you do are only part of the equation. Can other people clearly understand the value you bring? 5. Execute & Win: Moving Beyond Potential Sabrina has built and exited three companies. Sara asks what it took to turn her ideas into businesses, and what others can learn from that experience. our Brain Sees Success as a Risk, and Uses Self-Doubt and Burnout to Keep You Stuck

Send us Fan Mail In this episode, host Sara Kliss welcomes back transformation expert Nurhan Ora for an honest conversation about the hidden emotional cost of what we think "success" is. Many ambitious women appear confident and capable while privately struggling with imposter syndrome, anxiety, perfectionism, people-pleasing, and the exhausting need to prove themselves. But what happens when the same qualities that helped you succeed, your independence, high standards, ambition, and ability to handle everything, begin working against you? Together, Sara and Nurhan explore why professional success does not always lead to personal fulfillment, how survival patterns can shape our identity, and what it truly takes to transform your life. EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS 1. The Woman Behind the Success Nurhan shares the experiences that shaped her mission and reflects on working in highly accomplished professional environments. She explores how her definition of success evolved, and the moment she began to understand that professional achievement and personal fulfillment are not always the same thing. 2. Imposter Syndrome & the Fear of Being Exposed Why can a woman sacrifice so much to reach her goals and still feel that she does not deserve her success? Nurhan explains how imposter syndrome can become even stronger as a woman becomes more successful, especially when she feels she has more to lose, more people to impress, and more expectations to meet. The conversation asks every successful woman to consider: When you finally earn your place in the room, do you allow yourself to own it, or are you still waiting for someone to discover that you do not belong there? 3. Are You Successful, or Addicted to Proving Yourself? For some women, ambition is driven by purpose. For others, it may be fueled by fear, insecurity, or the need for validation. Sara and Nurhan explore where the need to prove ourselves begins and how childhood, family expectations, culture, professional environments, and our experiences as women can shape it. They also examine what happens when the woman who has always been “the strong one” no longer has the energy to keep performing that role. What if your ambition is not being driven by your dreams, but by the fear that you are still not enough? 4. People-Pleasing, Perfectionism & Control Why do so many ambitious women struggle to say no, even when they are already overwhelmed? Nurhan explores how people-pleasing can influence the way women lead, negotiate, establish boundaries, choose relationships, and make important decisions. Are you saying yes because you genuinely want to, or because you are afraid of disappointing someone, losing their approval, or missing an opportunity? 5. The Invisible Road to Burnout Burnout rarely begins the moment someone finally hits the wall. Nurhan reveals the early warning signs ambitious women often overlook and explains why so many respond by trying to become even more disciplined, productive, or organized. Sara and Nurhan ask an important question: Can rest truly heal you if you return to the same beliefs, habits, and environment that created your exhaustion, or does real recovery require a deeper identity change? "Are You Really Healing or Just Performing Spirituality...? "With Nee- Ah Linda Shneider

Send us Fan Mail In this episode, host Sara Khliss sits down with Nee-Ah Linda Schneider, a Medicine Woman with more than two decades of experience, for a conversation about spirituality, healing, sovereignty, and what it means to remain deeply connected to ourselves. Nee-Ah challenges some of the assumptions we rarely question, from spiritual communities and “doing the work”. What happens when spirituality becomes another identity? When guidance turns into dependence? When constantly searching for answers outside ourselves disconnects us from our own knowing? Together, Sara and Nee-Ah explore what authentic transformation requires,  and why true sovereignty may begin with something surprisingly simple: learning to trust yourself again. EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS 1. Meet Nee-Ah Linda Schneider: The Mission of a Medicine Woman Nee-Ah shares her journey and what it means to walk the path of a Medicine Woman.  2. When Spirituality Becomes Another Ego What if someone can spend years meditating, attending retreats, talking about consciousness, and “doing the work” without actually transforming? Nee-Ah challenges the idea that appearing spiritual necessarily means someone is evolving, and explores the difference between performing spirituality and experiencing genuine transformation. 3. Spiritual  Control & Giving Your Power Away Not all spiritual abuse looks obvious. We discuss the subtle ways people can become dependent on teachers, healers, communities, or spiritual authorities, and how seeking guidance can slowly turn into giving away your ability to make your own decisions. 4. What Does True Sovereignty Really Mean? “Sovereignty” has become a popular word in the wellness and spiritual world, but what does it actually mean? Nee-Ah explores why authentic sovereignty is not about simply doing whatever feels good. It is about remaining internally anchored. Can you remain connected to yourself no matter what life throws at you? 5. Protecting the Human Blueprint in the Age of AI We have never had access to more information. Google. Social media. Experts. Podcasts. Algorithms. And now AI. Yet with more answers than ever, many people feel increasingly disconnected from their own knowing. Nee-Ah and Sara explore what humans may be gradually learning to outsource, and what we should never outsource to technology, including our discernment, intuition, personal authority, and ability to know ourselves. The conversation ends with a powerful question for anyone who feels they have spent years looking outside themselves for answers: What is the first step toward coming home to yourself? Why So Many Women Lose Themselves with Sapha Pardo Heckman

Send us Fan Mail In this conversation, we explore feminine embodiment, the hidden cost of people-pleasing, the Dark Feminine, self-worth, intuition, feminine archetypes, nervous system healing, personal sovereignty, emotional resilience, embodiment, and what it truly means for women to return to themselves. Host Sara Khliss sits down with Sapha Pardo Heckman, recognized leadership consultant, author, speaker, and expert in feminine embodiment, to explore one of the most misunderstood aspects of womanhood: the relationship between the Light and the Dark Feminine. Rather than teaching women how to become someone new, Sapha invites them to remember who they have always been. Through her work, she helps women reconnect with their bodies, reclaim their personal sovereignty, and move beyond people-pleasing, perfectionism, and the constant search for external validation. Episode Highlights Meet Sapha Pardo Heckman Sapha shares her journey from the experiences that shaped her early life to becoming a trusted voice in feminine leadership, embodiment, and transformational coaching. Returning to Yourself What does it actually mean to place yourself at the center of your own life?  The Hidden Cost of People-Pleasing Why are so many women praised for being nurturing while silently losing themselves? We discuss how people-pleasing often begins as a survival strategy rather than simply a personality trait. Defining Your Worth From Within Many women tie their value to productivity, achievement, relationships, or approval. Understanding the Dark Feminine The Dark Feminine is often misunderstood. Sapha shares why this part of every woman represents healthy boundaries, truth, courage, discernment, and authentic power rather than something to fear. Beyond "Love and Light" Can constant positivity actually become another form of avoidance? We discuss why embracing the full spectrum of human emotion is essential for genuine healing and personal growth. Embodiment vs. Information Many women know exactly what their patterns are, yet struggle to change them. Sapha explains why awareness alone is rarely enough and how true transformation happens through embodiment rather than intellectual understanding. Living From Your Soul Instead of Survival How do you know whether your decisions come from conditioning or your authentic self? Sapha shares practical ways women can reconnect with their intuition and create lives aligned with their deepest values. Feminine Archetypes & Personal Power Discover how archetypes such as the Seer, the Lioness, and the Crone can help women navigate different seasons of life with greater wisdom, confidence, and self-awareness.
