Her Teen Survived Cardiac Arrest. What Moms Of Athletes Need To Know

What would you do if your healthy, athletic kid collapsed on the field? Megan Thompson sits down with her longtime friend Mary Taft, whose 13-year-old daughter Nina went into sudden cardiac arrest in the middle of a soccer tournament. Nina survived because her coach knew where the AED was, her dad started CPR right away, and the AED did the rest. Mary walks us through that day, the heart defect doctors found that no one knew Nina had, and how she turned the scariest moment of her life into a mission to get more AEDs, heart screenings, and emergency plans in schools. This is a must-listen for every mom of a student athlete. 💡 3 Key Takeaways: Any CPR is better than no CPR. Hands-only CPR works, and an AED tells you exactly what to do.Never assume. Ask your child’s school and sports club what their plan is for sudden cardiac arrest, and whether their AED batteries actually work.Life can truly change in an instant. Mary’s family now lives by “we take the trip, we buy the shoes, we go out for the dinner.”Resources mentioned in this episode: How to Save a Life (2-minute video): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u0B-ea-_9rc Parent Heart Watch: https://parentheartwatch.org/ PulsePoint AED app: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/near-registry/id867150971 PulsePoint Respond app: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/pulsepoint-respond/id500772134 Save Station: https://savestation.ca/ Nick of Time Foundation: https://nickoftimefoundation.org/about-us/nicks-story/ Daniel Phelps Foundation: https://danielphelpsfoundation.org/about/ AED Superstore: https://www.aedsuperstore.com/ Nina Strong IG: @nina_strong22 Connect With Me:  Instagram https://www.instagram.com/mrsmeganthompson Website: https://mrsmeganthompson.com Newsletter: Sign up for the I Can Do That Newsletter: https://mrsmeganthompson.com/newsletter Planner: Download my 5-Minute Refocus Planner: https://mrsmeganthompson.com Subscribe & Review If you loved this episode, please take a moment to subscribe & leave a review or rating! What happens when a family of six trades suburban life for the open sea? Megan Thompson chats with Amber Morse about what it’s like raising four kids on a boat. Amber and her husband Brandon, sold their home, hit the road in an RV, then eventually made the leap to living aboard a sailing catamaran. This is a conversation about more than just travel—it's about freedom, family, and rewriting the script for what life can look like. 🌟 3 BIG TAKEAWAYS: Courage is contagious.
