Nora experienced severe infantile seizures as a baby and faced major developmental delays, including not being able to walk for years. Logan opens up about diagnosis day, the fear and grief of that period, and how he eventually started pushing Nora in a running stroller as a way to cope and connect with her. What began as a single 10k grew into marathons, half marathons, and ultras together, including the emotional moment Nora took her first steps across a finish line. Logan also shares his newest project: a six day, 182 mile run across the state of Indiana with Nora this October. It's an honest, moving conversation about turning something incredibly hard into a source of joy, connection, and community, and a reminder of what running can mean far beyond a finish time. In this episode:- Nora's birth, her first seizure, and the road to diagnosis- Understanding Dup15q, a rare genetic condition- The emotional weight of "diagnosis day"- How running became a way to bond with Nora- Joining the running community as a team duo (pusher and rider)- Racing a caramel marathon, an indie half, and a 50k together- The moment Nora took her first steps across a finish line- What racing has taught Logan about celebration over outcome- The upcoming 182 mile run across Indiana with NoraContent note: this episode includes an open discussion of a child's medical diagnosis, seizures, and grief. #188 3:51 to 2:37: George Walker on Low-Mileage Marathon Training, Mental Health & Trusting the Process

Get 20% off a STRAVA annual subscription with code KRISTIAN Save on FlexBeam using this link or code WARWICKRUNS:https://rechargehealthas.sjv.io/55GAPb Kristian sits down with UK runner George Walker, who went from a 3:51 marathon debut in 2021 to a 2:37 marathon and a 1:11 half, all while never training above roughly 60 miles a week. George opens up about the depression and thoughts of suicide he faced early in his running journey, and how getting help, finding his partner, and discovering running combined to change his life. It's an honest conversation about running as a tool for mental wellbeing, not a replacement for professional help, but a powerful complement to it. From there the talk shifts technical: finding a qualified coach, managing a recurring ankle injury, solving a persistent cramping problem, dialing in nutrition and electrolytes, and the training that carried him to 2:37 at London. We close with his coaching plans and next goal, sub 2:30 in Valencia. In this episode: - His first marathon and how "one and done" turned into eight - Depression, suicidal thoughts, and getting help - Running as medicine, without replacing therapy - Finding a qualified coach vs picking one for speed alone - Managing a recurring ankle injury - Solving race day cramping - Nutrition and electrolyte strategy - Half marathon PB: 1:15 to 1:11 - London Marathon race recap: 2:37 - Weekly training structure under 60 miles a week - Coaching plans and the Valencia goal Content note: open discussion of depression and suicidal thoughts starting around 2:08. On this episode we have Ryan Smith on. Ryan is a 25-year-old based in Boston who ran a stunning 2:15:52 marathon debut at the Vermont City Marathon, winning the race and, almost as a surprise to himself, securing the Olympic Trials Qualifier (OTQ) standard. A Division 3 college runner who had been steadily chipping away at his PRs in the years since graduation, Ryan's breakthrough came after bouncing back from a stress fracture and committing to a short but smart "mini marathon block." In this conversation, host Kristian digs into what made Ryan's debut so remarkable: lower-than-expected mileage (~75–80 miles/week plus cross-training), a double threshold training approach, intensity controlled by feel rather than heart rate or lactate testing, and the philosophy of always erring on the slower side of effort. Ryan is candid about his injury history, the mental side of racing alone, and what it felt like to cross the finish line not quite believing the clock. ⏱️ Timestamps 1:00:08 | Intro — Episode 182 welcome1:00:23 | Guest introduction: Ryan Smith1:02:10 | Conversation begins1:02:54 | Ryan's background — age 25, Div.
