    Episode 74 - The Holy Mountain (1973) "Jordorowsky's Magical Mystery Tour"

    This week on the pod, shed your earthy belongings, cut your hair and read up on the Tarot as we conclude our trilogy of Jordorowksy films with his most uncompromising, visually stunning and batshit insane film with his magnum opus of surrealism in 1973’s “The Holy Mountain”. Join us as we embark on one of the most divisive films as watched by this podcast. Who knew, after countless crimes against humanity witnessed among friends, a line could be drawn over something like Tarot? The Holy Mountain is a film that goes on a journey whether you’re with it or not. A fully uncompromising vision of Director, writer, producer, costume and production designer Alejandro Jordorowsky; the film is an amalgamation of all things central to his beliefs. Art, life, politics, magic, surrealism. It’s a film with so much happening its narrative is often overwhelmed by its visuals. Or, maybe it’s just wacky as shit. Can’t it be both? Plus, the intersection of Jordorowsky and the Beatles, guerrilla filmmaking being taken to new heights; literally, and Pete tries to sell Aaron on the legitimacy of Tarot. Does he succeed?     Episode 73 - Monkeybone (2001) - "The Film That Made Furries of Us All"

    This week on the pod, we celebrate Aarons birthday by journeying back to a simpler time, possibly to the very moment that signaled the end of an era as we know it: The weirdly horny 90’s comedy. Channel your inner darkness into something beautiful with us, as we journey Into the Bone-Zone… or “Down Town” as the movie calls it, with 2001’s “Monkeybone”. For a movie that flopped hard at the box office (So hard we actually remember the news being as young as we were in 2001), there’s actually a lot of really bold and inventive things here on display. Pulling from Influences like “Who Framed Roger Rabbit?” and “Beetlejuice”, Monkeybone swings for the fences with it’s incredibly laborious combination of Live action, stop motion and practical effects on display. Though all that attention paid to the effects seems sorely lacking in the script department, with characters that feel underdeveloped and a plot that just sort of happens at you, and a struggle in balancing the dark/comedic tones in the film. Plus, Aaron reflects fondly on the last positive memory before the towers fell, reminiscing on a cast full of household names that seemed to all vanish after this movie, and just what exactly did this movie awaken in the two of us?     Episode 72 - El Topo (1970) - "Nobody Wants to Go to The "Dead Kid Church"

    This week on the pod, we continue our journey through the works of Alejandro Jordorowsky by braving the desert and experiencing death of self with 1970’s “El Topo”. What a trip man. Join us as we spend a bit more time learning about Jordorowsky himself and what brought him to create his special blend of mysticism, religion, philosophy and magic to film. Be warned, our special little guy takes a bit more of misogynistic turn this route as we dive into some of the controversy around the films rather left hook of a rape scene, and Jordorowsky’s earlier interviews about the film. But, between the heightened style at play, the flavor of a Western take on the hero’s journey,  the more overt spiritual lean of the film, El Topo definitely serves up a more engaging and taboo watch with a bit more to chew on. Plus, The fun things that children love to do, the legend of cult cinema Ben Barenholtz; and honest question, just who is this podcast for?     Episode 71 - Santa Sangre (1989) - "The Mime, The Magician and His Armless Mother"

    This week on the pod, we’re kicking off something special for you all. Journey with us into he theater of the surreal and absurd as we begin what will be a trio of films by the director, surrealist, mystic and overall weird dude, Alejandro Jodorowsky as we watched his 1989 psychological horror film; Santa Sangre. Being this is our first foray into the works of Jordorowsky, we dip our toes in with what we felt was his more grounded and approachable film of the 3 to come; which makes sense being the only one of the 3 films that was only co-written by Jordorowky himself. Join us as we marvel at the many visual spectacles this films has to offer, from he circus performances, live theater sequences, to a literal funeral procession for an elephant, this film is anything but dull. It tickles the senses and dazzles the eye, albeit sometimes with too much success to remember what’s happening in the film. But hey, fun to look at is still what we’re here for!     Episode 70 - Pink Flamingos (1972) - "The Divine Comedy"

    This week on the podcast, we’re celebrating Pete’s birthday by treading into some uncharted Waters… John Waters that is as we watched the tentpole film of John Waters’ Trash Trilogy with 1972’s “Pink Flamingos”. Fam, this film’s got it all. Sex, rape, incest, human trafficking, cannibalism and that’s all within the first hour! It’s not that long of a film so it’s really the bulk of the film, but you get the idea. And boys and girls, don’t you skip that final scene, it’s a real treat! Join us as we wonder why it’s taken us to cover a John Waters film on this show, as his work is really the seed from which so many other things we love comes from! An independent filmmaker whose inspiration stems into all manner of art, film, queerness, and hey, even the likes of the Jackass fella’s look up to him. He’s your favorite artists, favorite Artist. But we’d be remiss if we spent all this time talking about Waters and not his putrescent muse, the queen of filth herself, Divine. For, without Divine, does Waters make such iconic trash cinema?     Episode 69 - High Tension (2003) - "A History of French Violence"

    This week on the pod, pack your bags, hop in the car with your closest gal pal because were headed to a secluded house for the weekend to… Study? This week we watched the 2003 French Horror film High Tension! Join us as we finally take this opportunity to dive into the genre of New French Extremity Horror; a genre with some very familiar entries if you’ve been listening to the pod for while! While we meander down these halls of French cinema we also take a stroll down Pete’s own memory lane of how impressionable this film was on him as an up and coming horror fan in the 2000’s. And while High Tension may not be the gnarliest, the most offensive or that sort of “one and done” kind of film, it serves as an interesting turning point in the genre; one where French films influence American Films that then again influence French films. It’s all one big international conversation and the text reads blood, guts and chainsaws! Plus, we talk about the major continuity flaws of this film and it’s (Spoiler!!) twist, Aaron and Pete soft launch their new YouTube channel ideas, and finally, we tackle the real issues at hand, the ones dividing people across borders: Male Circumcision!     Episode 68 - Twin Peaks: The Return-Part 8 (2017) - "For the Fireman So Loved the World, That He Gave His Only Daughter"

    Follow us, through space and time as we journey our way out of the black lodge, through the void and make our return… to the town of Twin Peaks. This week on the pod we’re continuing our Twin Peaks coverage as we jump 25 years into the future and watch Twin Peaks - The Return, Episode 8. Where Fire Walk With Me tackles David Lynch in one of his more darker shades covering personal traumas and spilling a bit if the mystery, our episode today finds us in quite the opposite end of the Lynchian spectrum. In the Return, we find ourselves at the hand of a creator who’s making no compromises and holding nothing back. He doesn’t care if you’re following him, but your’e along for the ride whether you like it or not. And “Part 8” of the limited series serves as a sort of nexus of that journey. It’s part origin story of the show, part abstract art, part horror film, but all Lynch in his most unbridled iteration yet. Describing it does no justice, so honestly, go watch this one yourself.     Episode 67 - Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me (1992) - "Are You Talking About That Little Girl That Got Murdered?"

    This month, We’re running a two for one special down the Double R Diner… or is it Hap’s? We’re talking about seedy bars, cryptic log-based messages and dead homecoming queens as we’re saddling up in the town of Twin Peaks for all of February! On our first episode, we cover David Lynch’s first foray off the leash with the 1992 Film “Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me”. This one’s a near and dear property to the pod, so join us as we gush a bit over the show and yes, David Lynch himself as we marvel at what a waking nightmare this film is. Don’t worry, we’ll give you the run-up you need on the show to understand what the hell is even happening in this movie. Though if you are a fan of Twin Peaks, you may have your own qualms with the film, whether it be it’s aggressively dark tone, focus on sexual trauma, or completely ruining the mystery of the original show. But if you’re willing to look past that, what lies in these secret pages of Laura Palmer’s Diary lies somewhere between the familiar and Lynch’s most confronting film.
