In the multifamily housing industry, success is often measured by occupancy rates, development pipelines, and operational performance. But the leaders who leave a lasting impact understand that advocacy, mentorship, philanthropy, and association involvement are just as critical to shaping the future of the industry. Building strong communities requires more than managing properties. It requires investing in people, cultivating future leaders, and creating opportunities for others to succeed. On this episode of The Associated Podcast, Bryan and Todd sit down with Greg Cerbana, Vice President of Public Relations, Corporate Giving, and Government Affairs for Weidner Apartment Homes, for a conversation about leadership, advocacy, philanthropy, and building a meaningful career in multifamily housing. Based in the Pacific Northwest and active throughout North America, Greg shares lessons from nearly three decades in the industry, his role in helping launch the Washington Multifamily Housing Association (WMFHA/WOMPA), and the mentorship, relationships, and service opportunities that helped shape his career. In this episode, you'll learn: How a chance conversation led Greg from retail management into a lifelong multifamily careerWhy understanding residents' stories is one of the most important leadership skills in housingWhat it took to help launch and grow Washington's multifamily housing associationWhy advocacy and government affairs remain essential to protecting and advancing the rental housing industryHow mentorship shaped Greg's leadership style and long-term successThe importance of succession planning and developing future industry leadersWhy philanthropy and community investment create lasting impact beyond business results Throughout the conversation, Greg emphasizes a simple but powerful idea: careers are built through relationships.
