Belfast Church Flute Band - 18th October 2026 - Dead in Sin, Alive by Grace

The Belfast Church Flute Band at Ballynahinch Congregational Church. Beginning with a reading from Ephesians 2, this sermon explains that all people have sinned and stand under God’s judgment, and that no amount of church attendance, good behaviour or religious background can save us. Salvation is shown to be God’s gift alone, received through faith in Christ, who bore the punishment for sin at the cross. The sermon closes with a direct call to repent and trust in Jesus alone for salvation. Bible passages referenced: • Ephesians 2:1-10 • Romans 3:23 (quoted) • Romans 5:8 (quoted) • Romans 8:1 (quoted)

Morning Sermon - 18th October 2026 - Repentance, Mercy, and the Barren Fig Tree

This morning’s sermon is delivered by the Reverend Charles Collins. Preaching from Luke 13:1-9 on a visit to Ballynahinch Congregational Church, the Reverend Charles Collins explores why Jesus links reports of a massacre and a fatal accident to the call to repentance. Rev Collins argues that the way someone dies says nothing about their standing before God, and that only repentance and faith in Jesus determine our eternal destiny. Using the parable of the barren fig tree, he reflects on God’s patient mercy towards those who have not yet borne fruit, while warning that this mercy will not last forever. Bible passages referenced: • Luke 13:1-9 • Hebrews 11:35-38 (quoted) • Matthew 3:7-8 (paraphrased) • Mark 1:15 (paraphrased) • Acts 17:30-31 (quoted) • Psalm 23:6 (alluded to) • Luke 23:39-43 (alluded to) • Mark 2:17 (paraphrased)

Morning Sermon - 11th October 2026 - Adam, Covenant Breaking, and the Need for a Saviour

This morning’s sermon is delivered by the Reverend George Speers. In this sermon on Romans 5:12-21, the Reverend George Speers explores why a Saviour is needed at all, tracing the tragic state of the unrepentant back to Adam’s covenant breaking in Eden. Rev Speers works through three themes — covenant breaking by Adam, covenant union with Adam, and covenant breaking by all humanity — to show how every person inherits guilt and spiritual death through their representative head, Adam, setting up the hope found only in Christ, the head of the covenant of grace. Bible passages referenced: • Romans 5:12-21 • Genesis 3:8 (alluded to) • Genesis 3:6 (alluded to) • Genesis 3 (alluded to) • Hebrews 9:27 (quoted) • 1 Corinthians 15:22 (quoted) • Romans 5:12 (quoted) • Romans 5:18 (quoted) • Romans 5:19 (quoted) • Psalm 51:5 (quoted)

Evening Sermon - 4th October 2026 - A Tale of Two Cities: Babylon and Zion in Zechariah

This evening’s sermon is delivered by the Reverend George Speers. In this seventh message in his series on Zechariah, the Reverend George Speers explores chapter two’s vision of the measuring line, reading it through Augustine’s famous contrast between the city of man and the city of God. Drawing on Dickens’ A Tale of Two Cities for his title, Rev Speers traces God’s coming judgment on Babylon, the promised salvation and indwelling presence for Zion, and the identity of the angel of the Lord as the pre-incarnate Christ, before closing with three commands for God’s people: flee the wrath to come, sing and rejoice, and be silent before the Lord. Bible passages referenced: • Zechariah 2:1-13 • Zechariah 1:11 (alluded to) • Exodus 9:16 (quoted) • Revelation 14-18 (alluded to) • Revelation 16:6 (paraphrased) • Revelation 15:4 (quoted) • Deuteronomy 32:9-10 (paraphrased) • Psalm 17:8 (quoted) • Ephesians 2:15 (paraphrased) • John 1:14 (paraphrased) • John 5:36 (quoted) • Hebrews 12:22-24 (quoted) • Matthew 3:7 (quoted) • Zephaniah 3:14-17 (paraphrased) • Philippians 4:4 (quoted) • Mark 4:39 (alluded to)

Morning Sermon - 4th October 2026 - Why Jesus Had to Be Both God and Man

This morning’s sermon is delivered by the Reverend George Speers. In this sermon on Hebrews 2, the Reverend George Speers explores why salvation depends entirely on Jesus Christ being both fully man and fully God. He sets out six reasons Christ had to be truly human — to obey in our place, to be a substitute sacrifice, to mediate between God and man, to rule over creation, to pattern godly living, and to be a sympathetic high priest — before turning to three reasons he had to be truly God, since only a divine Saviour can give life to the dead, bear an infinite penalty, and serve as a suitable mediator. Rev Speers closes with a direct appeal to anyone not yet trusting in Christ to turn from sin and believe in him alone for salvation. Bible passages referenced: • Hebrews 2:1-18 • Psalm 8:4-6 (quoted) • Romans 5:19 (quoted) • Hebrews 2:17 (quoted) • 1 Timothy 2:5 (quoted) • Genesis 1:28 (alluded to) • Genesis 3 (alluded to) • Luke 4:1-13 (alluded to) • Matthew 28:18 (quoted) • Ephesians 1:22 (paraphrased) • 1 John 2:6 (quoted) • 2 Corinthians 3:18 (quoted) • Galatians 5:22-23 (alluded to) • Hebrews 4:14-16 (alluded to) • Jonah 2:9 (quoted) • John 3:3-7 (paraphrased) • Ezekiel 37:1-14 (alluded to) • Ephesians 2:3 (paraphrased) • 2 Corinthians 5:21 (quoted) • Isaiah 53:6 (quoted) • 1 Peter 3:18 (alluded to) • Exodus (general) (alluded to)

Evening Sermon - 27th September 2026 - The City Without Walls: God's Vision for His Church

This evening’s sermon is delivered by the Reverend George Speers. In this study of Zechariah chapter 2, the Reverend George Speers explores the prophet’s third vision, in which an angel measures Jerusalem only to be told that God’s city will be far greater than any human yardstick could capture. Rev Speers draws out four truths: that our view of the church must come from God’s perspective rather than the world’s, that God’s vision for His church is one of unwalled, ever expanding growth, that God Himself is our true protection and glory, and that all are urgently invited to leave the fading city of this world for the everlasting city of God. Along the way he brings in historical examples from the persecuted church in Sudan and the failed boasts of Voltaire to show that God preserves His people through every age. Bible passages referenced: • Zechariah 2:1-13 • Zechariah 1:7-17 (alluded to) • Zechariah 1:18-21 (alluded to) • Zechariah 1:16 (quoted) • Isaiah 52:1 (quoted) • Hebrews 11:10 (quoted) • Hebrews 12:22 (quoted) • Isaiah 60:21 (quoted) • Genesis 12:1-3 (alluded to) • Acts 1:8 (alluded to) • Galatians 3:28 / Colossians 3:11 (paraphrased) • 2 Chronicles 20:17 (quoted) • Matthew 16:18 (paraphrased) • Psalm 121:7-8 (quoted) • Revelation 21:10-11,23 (quoted) • Revelation 22:3-5,14 (quoted) • Jeremiah 9:23-24 (quoted) • 1 John 2:17 (paraphrased)

Morning Sermon - 27th September 2026 - The Sinless Saviour: Origin, Evidence, and Certainty

This morning’s sermon is delivered by the Reverend George Speers. In the third sermon of a series on the wonder of salvation, the Reverend George Speers examines the sinlessness of Christ, tracing its origin in the virgin conception, the biblical evidence for it throughout the Gospels, Acts and Epistles, and the theological certainty that the God-man could not have sinned. Preaching from Luke 4:1-13, Rev Speers argues that only a truly sinless Saviour is equipped to rescue sinners who are themselves dead in Adam. The sermon wrestles honestly with the mystery of Christ’s temptation and impeccability, while pressing home the gospel call to repent and believe. Bible passages referenced: • Luke 4:1-13 • Hebrews 2:17 (quoted) • 1 Corinthians 15:22 (quoted) • Psalm 51:5 (paraphrased) • Luke 1:35 (paraphrased) • Hebrews 4:15 (quoted) • Luke 2:40 (paraphrased) • John 8:46 (quoted) • John 8:12 (quoted) • John 8:29 (paraphrased) • Acts 3:14 (paraphrased) • Acts 7:52-56 (alluded to) • Hebrews 7:26 (paraphrased) • 1 Peter 2:22 (quoted) • Genesis 2-3 (alluded to) • Deuteronomy 6-8 (alluded to)

Evening Sermon - 20th September 2026 - Facing the Horns, Trusting the Craftsmen

This evening’s sermon is delivered by the Reverend George Speers. In this sermon on Zechariah 1:18-21, the Reverend George Speers explores the second of Zechariah’s night visions, contrasting the four horns that symbolise every assault on God’s people with the four craftsmen God raises up to defend them. Rev Speers applies this to the pressures facing the Western church today, from cultural hostility and legislation to persecution abroad, urging Christians not to be surprised by opposition but to take courage in Christ’s finished victory. He calls the congregation to guard their hearts, pray for the suffering church, and rest in the sovereignty of God amid rising cultural and spiritual attack. Bible passages referenced: • Zechariah 1:1-21 • John 16:33 (quoted) • John 15:20 (quoted) • Psalm 22:21 (alluded to) • Acts 8:1 (paraphrased) • 1 Peter 5:8 (alluded to) • Job 1-2 (alluded to) • Isaiah 54:17 (quoted) • Daniel 7 (alluded to) • Psalm 2 (paraphrased) • Ephesians 1:22 (paraphrased) • Revelation 19:11-16 (alluded to) • Jeremiah 23:29 (quoted) • 2 Corinthians 10:4-5 (quoted) • Daniel 5 (alluded to)
