Artist Carly Jaye Interview: The Creative Economy Driving Our City

Recorded in front of one of Moose Jaw’s most iconic murals — right at the entrance to our city — this episode of Closest to the People is all about the power of the creative economy. I’m joined by artist Carly Jaye — the talent behind this mural and many others across Moose Jaw — whose work goes far beyond walls. From transforming benches and garbage cans into public art, to shaping how our entire city feels and looks, her impact is everywhere. Surrounded by the very work we’re talking about, we dive into how creativity is driving Moose Jaw in real, measurable ways. From large-scale murals that define our streetscapes, to graffiti artists activating hidden spaces, to businesses partnering with artists — like the murals at Boh’s — to expand their reach and draw people in… this is more than art, it’s economic development. Because if we want to grow — and if we want to keep the next generation here — the creative economy isn’t optional. It’s essential. 2. Meet Mayor Mark Jantzer of Minot North Dakota

Meet Mayor Mark Jantzer of Minot North Dakota

Here is the first episode of my chat with Mayor Mark Jantzer of Minot North Dakota.  Minot and Moose Jaw are so similar in many ways.  In this conversation with Mayor Mark Jantzer, we cover a lot of ground — and over the next couple of episodes I’ll be breaking it down into some really interesting topics. We talk about the federal investment in the U.S. Air Force Base, and what that means for Minot’s economy, housing, and infrastructure as the community prepares for continued military growth. We dive into what he calls the three wicked challenges Minot is facing and what  Mayor Janzter feels are the big issues as they head into an election, including what it takes to lead a growing prairie city during a time of big expectations from residents.  And one topic that might not sound flashy — but has a huge impact on how a city runs — is how Minot tackled implementing a modern municipal accounting system. It may not be the sexiest subject, but it has a massive effect on how efficiently cities deliver services to their citizens. So stay tuned for these upcoming episodes as we unpack these issues and more. Because at the end of the day, these are the kinds of decisions happening closest to the people. Thank you for tuning in.
