Ep. 0003 - The Man Inside the Machine: The Michael Sundin Story

He was a world-class gymnast, a Blue Peter presenter, and the physical force behind Tik-Tok in Return to Oz. But Michael Sundin's life was cut short by a media firestorm that defined the prejudices of the 1980s. Today on OzQuest, we tell the story of the man inside the brass suit. From his early titles in trampolining to the tabloid "sting" that ruined his career and his heartbreaking, early battle with AIDS, this is a look at the history behind the magic. Join us as we honor the man behind the machine. Content Warning: This episode discusses sensitive history, including 1980s media bias, homophobia, and the impact of the AIDS epidemic. Join the conversation: What do you think? Was the media treatment of Michael Sundin justified, or was it a career-ending witch hunt? Let us know in the comments or on social media.

Ep. 0002 - DiC Animation's the Wizard of Oz

In this episode of OzQuest, we step back into the Emerald City through the vibrant, Saturday-morning lens of DiC Animation's The Wizard of Oz. Often overlooked, this animated series reimagines L. Frank Baum's world with bold character designs, episodic adventures, and a distinctly late-'80s/early-'90s animation sensibility. We explore how DiC expanded the land of Oz beyond Dorothy's original journey, the ways the series adapted Baum's characters and themes for television, and how it fits into the wider legacy of Oz adaptations—from classic illustrations to modern reinterpretations. What worked, what didn't, and why this version still holds a special place for Oz fans who grew up with it. Whether you're rediscovering this series or learning about it for the first time, Episode 002 is a nostalgic and critical look at a curious chapter in Oz history. ✨ Follow OzQuest for more deep dives into animated Oz, rare adaptations, and the many roads that lead back to the Yellow Brick Road.
