The Jamison Family Mystery: $32,000 Left Behind

On October 8th, 2009, the Jamison family—Bobby, Sherilynn, and their six-year-old daughter Madyson—drove into a remote area of Oklahoma. They never came back. Days later, their truck was found abandoned. Inside, investigators discovered something that made the case even more unsettling. Their phones were still there. Their wallets were still there. Their dog was still alive. And $32,000 in cash… was left behind. The last known footage of the family shows them outside their home, moving slowly… back and forth… loading and unloading their truck for nearly an hour. Not speaking. Not rushing. Just… moving. As if something wasn’t right. Years later, their remains were found not far from where the truck had been. Which raises a question that still hasn’t been answered: Why would a family leave everything behind… and walk into the woods? In this episode of The Pine Grove Briar, we examine the Jamison Family Mystery—a case filled with contradictions, unanswered questions, and a quiet sense that something was wrong long before they disappeared. 💰 Support the show If you enjoy what I’m building and want to help keep it going, you can support directly here: 👉 paypal.me/chrissewell623 🛒 Support the show and our sponsors: QuikCamo – 3D Leafy Camo Suits, Hats & Gloves 💰 25% OFF with code PGBPROMO 👉 https://quikcamo.com/discount/PGBPROMO Bear Knuckles – Premium Leather Work Gloves 💰 15% OFF with code PGBPROMO 👉 https://buybearknuckles.com/discount/PGBPROMO Old Glory – Music, Sports & Pop Culture Merch 💰 15% OFF with code PGBPROMO 👉 https://oldglory.com/discount/PGBPROMO If this episode stayed with you, follow the show and leave a review—it helps more people discover The Pine Grove Briar.

The Setagaya Family Murders: The Night He Stayed

On the night of December 30th, 2000, in Setagaya, Tokyo, a family of four was murdered inside their home. What followed is one of the most baffling and unsettling investigations in modern criminal history. Because the killer didn’t flee. He stayed. For hours, he moved through the Miyazawa home—eating food from the kitchen, using the bathroom, accessing the family computer, and even tending to his own injuries. He left behind fingerprints. DNA. Clothing. A bag containing sand traced to the Mojave Desert in the United States. Investigators later determined his genetic profile may have included ancestry linked to regions near the Adriatic Sea. The weapon used in the attack broke during the struggle, forcing him to retrieve another knife from inside the home. By the time he finally left… He had left behind everything— except his identity. More than two decades later, the case remains unsolved. Each year, investigators publicly apologize for the lack of answers. Each year, a reward of 2 million yen is offered for information. And still… No one has been identified. In this episode of The Pine Grove Briar, we examine the Setagaya Family Murders—sometimes referred to as the “Goldilocks Murders”—a case defined not only by violence, but by what came after. 🛒 Support the show and our sponsors: QuikCamo – 3D Leafy Camo Suits, Hats & Gloves 25% OFF with code PGBPROMO https://quikcamo.com/discount/PGBPROMO Bear Knuckles – Premium Leather Work Gloves 15% OFF with code PGBPROMO https://buybearknuckles.com/discount/PGBPROMO Old Glory – Music, Sports & Pop Culture Merch 15% OFF with code PGBPROMO https://oldglory.com/discount/PGBPROMO If this episode stayed with you, follow the show and leave a review—it helps more people discover The Pine Grove Briar.

Frank Hughett: Shot, Poisoned, and Hunted in Scott County

There are some stories that feel like they were always going to end one way. This is one of them. In 1910, in the mountains of Scott County, Tennessee, former sheriff Frank Hughett became a marked man. What started as law enforcement quickly turned into something more personal—something that wouldn’t be settled in a courtroom. He was shot in broad daylight. He survived. Days later, his whiskey was poisoned. He survived that too. Most men would have left. He didn’t. Frank Hughett stayed in the same mountains, around the same people, fully aware that whatever had started… wasn’t over. And on a quiet Sunday morning, while sweeping the steps of a railroad commissary, it finally caught up with him. But even that isn’t where this story ends. Twenty years later, his son—following in his footsteps as a lawman—would meet a strikingly similar fate. In this episode of The Pine Grove Briar, we explore a story of duty, retaliation, and the kind of consequences that don’t fade with time… they echo. 🎧 The Pine Grove Briar is a single-host podcast telling true stories that feel like they’ve been sitting in the mountains… waiting to be heard. 🛒 Support the show and our sponsors: QuikCamo – 3D Leafy Camo Suits, Hats & Gloves 25% OFF with code PGBPROMO https://quikcamo.com/discount/PGBPROMO Bear Knuckles – Premium Leather Work Gloves 15% OFF with code PGBPROMO https://buybearknuckles.com/discount/PGBPROMO Old Glory – Music, Sports & Pop Culture Merch 15% OFF with code PGBPROMO https://oldglory.com/discount/PGBPROMO 📍 This episode is based on historical research compiled by Ben Garrett, editor of The Independent Herald and author of Murders in the Heartland. The Burger Chef Murders: They Cleaned the Crime Scene Before Finding the Victims

On November 17th, 1978, four young employees reported for their shift at a Burger Chef in Speedway, Indiana. They never made it home. At first, it looked like a simple robbery—an open cash register, missing money, and no immediate signs of violence. But what investigators did next would become one of the most controversial decisions in true crime history. Before it was even clear that anything more serious had occurred… The crime scene was cleaned. Three days later, the bodies of all four teenagers were discovered in a wooded area miles away. Nearly half a century later, the case remains unsolved. In this episode of The Pine Grove Briar, we take a deep dive into the Burger Chef murders—reconstructing the timeline, examining the investigation, and exploring the theories that continue to haunt this case. The Brian Shaffer Disappearance (2006) | The Man Who Walked In and Was Never Seen Again

In April of 2006, Brian Shaffer, a 27-year-old Ohio State medical student, went out for a night in Columbus, Ohio. What should have been an ordinary evening would become one of the most baffling disappearances in modern true crime. Security cameras clearly captured Brian entering a crowded building late that night. Friends, staff, and dozens of patrons moved in and out of the area throughout the evening. But Brian Shaffer was never seen leaving. Despite extensive police investigations, searches, and years of speculation, no trace of Brian has ever been found. No confirmed sightings. No body. No clear explanation. How can someone enter a busy public place… and seemingly vanish without a trace? In this episode of The Pine Grove Briar, we examine the timeline of that night, the surveillance footage investigators analyzed, the strange details that still trouble detectives, and the theories that continue to surround one of the most haunting unsolved mysteries in recent memory. More than eighteen years later, one question still lingers: What really happened to Brian Shaffer? The Dyatlov Pass Incident (1959) | What Sent Them Into the Night?

In February 1959, nine experienced hikers set out into the remote Ural Mountains of the Soviet Union. Led by Igor Dyatlov, the group was well trained and properly equipped for the harsh winter expedition ahead. They never made it home. Weeks later, search teams discovered their abandoned tent on the slopes of Kholat Syakhl — a mountain whose name loosely translates to Dead Mountain. The tent had been cut open from the inside, and footprints in the snow showed the hikers had fled into the night, many of them barefoot and without proper clothing. What followed only deepened the mystery. Some of the hikers died from hypothermia. Others suffered catastrophic internal injuries. One victim was found missing her tongue. Investigators were left with more questions than answers, and the official Soviet conclusion offered only a vague explanation: an “unknown compelling force.” More than sixty years later, the Dyatlov Pass Incident remains one of the most unsettling and debated mysteries in modern history. In this episode of The Pine Grove Briar, we examine the final expedition of Igor Dyatlov and his team, the strange discoveries made on that frozen mountainside, and the theories that continue to surround what may have happened that night. What could have driven nine experienced hikers to abandon their shelter and run into the freezing darkness? Cabin 28: The Unsolved Keddie Murders (1981)

In April 1981, three people were brutally murdered inside Cabin 28 at the Keddie Resort in Northern California. Three children slept in the next room and survived. By morning, a quiet mountain community was shaken — and a case that would haunt investigators for decades had begun. Sue Sharp, her son John Sharp, and family friend Dana Wingate were found bound and murdered inside the small cabin. Sue’s daughter, Tina Sharp, vanished that night and was later discovered miles away. Despite early suspects, reported confessions, missing evidence, and renewed investigative efforts years later, no one has ever been convicted. The Keddie Cabin Murders remain one of California’s most unsettling unsolved cases — marked by alleged investigative missteps, lost recordings, and lingering questions about whether the truth was mishandled from the start. In this episode of The Pine Grove Briar, we examine the timeline, the crime scene, the surviving children, the suspects, and the unanswered questions that still surround Cabin 28.
