AI Study Club: Copilot Dashboards, Indeed Spend & Getting Started with Claude Code (11/4/26)

This AI Study Club session opens with a question from a Reddit post: is pressure to use AI for everything wearing down HR professionals' critical thinking? Participants describe how AI has instead broadened their perspective and freed up bandwidth. They then share practical work. Examples include Copilot-built Excel dashboards on hiring sources and the recruiting pipeline, and an agent that connects Monday.com and Power Automate. Another participant used Copilot to reconstruct the history of a custom ICIMS text consent field. The group also covers moving job advertising from self-managed Indeed to Appcast with data-driven budget caps, and whether junior staff should still learn Excel. The Host demonstrates an internal operations tool built with Claude Code and explains in plain terms how to get started with it. The episode is useful for administrators who want concrete examples of AI in recruiting operations and an honest view of its limits, including hallucinations, validation and time constraints. In this episode: - Is AI reducing HR professionals' ability to think critically? Participants say it has enhanced theirs - Using Copilot in Excel to measure hires as a percentage of applications by source, not just share of hires - A Copilot agent connected to Monday.com and Power Automate drafts agendas and assesses project health; output still needs proofreading for hallucinations - Reconstructing the history of a custom ICIMS text consent field from emails before moving to standard consent with default opt-out - Moving from self-managed Indeed to Appcast: yearly budget caps with quarterly guardrails, and a custom job field for campaign hashtags - Showing managers daily counts of new submissions before they request ad spend - Daily recruiter and pipeline dashboards built in Excel with Copilot from delivered ICIMS reports - Should people entering the field still learn Excel? Yes, at least enough to validate what AI builds - Behind the build: an internal tool made with Claude Code that brings together website analytics, time tracking and an industry news feed - Getting started with Claude Code: authorship, persistence on GitHub, deployment with Vercel or Cloudflare, and checking safety Chapters: 00:00:00 Welcome and Purpose of the AI Study Club 00:01:32 Reddit Post: Is AI Eroding Critical Thinking? 00:08:14 Copilot Adoption and Text Consent History at Cheesecake Factory 00:11:04 AI Creating More Work Capacity Rather Than Cutting Headcount 00:14:15 Moving from Indeed to AppCast and Managing Job Ad Spend 00:19:50 How Members Keep Up with AI and Compare Claude, Copilot and ChatGPT 00:26:39 Finding Time for AI, ROI Challenges and Whether to Learn Excel 00:30:39 Demo: IRD Pulse Internal Operations Platform Built with Claude Code 00:38:30 Getting Started with Claude Code and the AI-Made SAI Video 00:48:38 Copilot-Built Recruiting Dashboards from ICIMS Reportshttps://systemadmininsights.com/
