    Episode 37: 1977 - Part 1

Send us Fan Mail Welcome back! We have prevailed over the forces of moving and technical difficulties and we are so thrilled to return to one of the best decades in film, the 1970s!!  1977 to be precise, and we have lot to talk about!  So much so, we decided to split the show into two parts! Part one is available now, Part 2 will be available next week. But first, we are excited to discuss this years list of Oscar nominees: Annie HallThe Goodbye GirlJuliaStar WarsThe Turning PointAs if that wasn't enough, we added a few other categories to the Oscar list like The Best Grandma Moment, The Independent Darling, and Who Did It Best! While Annie Hall, a fine movie in its own right, was chosen by the mercurial Academy for the Best Picture award, it should come as no surprise to long time listeners who we thought should have won the Best Picture of 1977...hint, it was the only movie that had Wookies in it. And because Star Wars was the clear winner in our eyes, the big competition was for second place; who should it have been: Annie Hall or our alternative pick Saturday Night Fever? Maybe Carlos's favorite The Duellists, or the surprisingly shocking and violent Equus? Nature's revenge was a prevalent theme in 1977, as seen in Orca or Empire of the Ants, we talk a lot about rampaging animal movies, and did a bunch of Who Did It Best comparisons. We even thrown in some Comedy Gold! There's so much to talk about and we haven't even gotten to the year's Grandma Moment yet! All this and more in the the first part of 1977. Want to be part of the excitement, listen and find out who we think could have been added to the Best Picture list! Was the Academy right?  Do you agree with our correct assessments? Episode 31: 1953

Send us Fan Mail Welcome to SEASON 2!! As we start the new year, we start a new season of laughs and movie talk here on the Retros. We're so happy to have found such success when we launched season 1 last year. We appreciate everyone who took the time to listen to us and we hope you continue to listen and enjoy our ramblings. Even though this is Episode 1 of Season 2, we're going to continue the numbering pattern for the list of episodes to keep it from being confusing, so in the episode list, you'll see this is Episode: 31. Really, the Seasons are for our logistical benefit. I'm already making it more complicated than it needs to be. Just keep an eye out for new episodes!  We again travel back to the Golden Age of Postwar America, to the year 1953!  We were ecstatic to watch the movies of this year and were even more excited to talk about them. Here is the list of Oscar nominees: From Here to EternityJulius CaesarThe RobeRoman HolidayShaneAs if that wasn't enough, we added a few other categories to the Oscar list like The Best Grandma Moment, The Independent Darling, and Who Did It Best! Did Alan Ladd die as he rode off on his horse in Shane, or did he live and just ignored that obnoxious kid? We have opinions about that ending. As the actors' egos threatened to throw the production of Julius Caesar off the rails, just how did the director Joseph Mankiewicz manage to keep everyone in line? We don't know for sure, but we have some pretty good ideas! The city of Rome in Roman Holiday sure seemed sparsely populated in the 1950s, though it was certainly the best place to take an itinerant princess out for a coffee date.  War of the Worlds, or Invaders from Mars? Which movie had the best Martian invasion? Hollywood loved to invade Earth back then. And why did so many movies have weirdly naughty titles rife with double entendres?  It was a different time, we're sure. Is Ed Wood's Glen or Glenda featuring Bela Lugosi one of the best indy darlings ever? Listen and find out! PULL THE STRING!! Want to be part of the excitement, listen and find out who we think could have been added to the Best Picture list! Was the Academy right?  Do you agree with our correct assessments? Episode 30: 1985 - Part 2

Send us Fan Mail Since we had so much to say, this week we're presenting the second part of 1985!  But first, here is a reminder of this years list of Oscar nominees: Out of AfricaThe Color PurpleKiss of the Spider WomanPrizzi's HonorWitnessAs if that wasn't enough, we added a few other categories to the Oscar list like The Best Grandma Moment, The Independent Darling, and Who Did It Best! Was Rocky IV the sequel of the year? Is Dario Argento's Demons the kind of horror movie that sticks with you? We also discuss a couple of the brat pack movies, The Breakfast Club, and St. Elmo's Fire, and how they catapulted the careers of the brat packers. But which one was better? Don't worry, we tell you. We also discuss some of the best action movies and their muscular heroes, of not just 1985, but of the whole decade of the 80s! Who had the best one-liners; Schwarzenegger? Stallone? Norris? And which of their movie franchises came up on top? All this and more as we close on the stellar movie year of 1985. Want to be part of the excitement, listen and find out who we think could have been added to the Best Picture list! Was the Academy right?  Do you agree with our correct assessments?
