86| 6 Lessons I Learned From Closing an 18-Month Project Before Burnout Made the Decision for Me

Have you ever known something was complete—but kept trying to make it work because you’d already invested too much to walk away? Sometimes changing direction doesn’t mean you failed. Sometimes the changes are the work. If you’re used to approaching your career, relationships, goals, and even yourself like a project that can be optimized, it can be difficult to recognize when something has simply run its course. You keep strategizing, analyzing, fixing, and pushing—until burnout makes the decision for you. In this episode, Rachel shares six lessons she learned after closing the FITSIN Project and preparing to step into The Wild Woman Within. She explores what happens when you stop treating every change as evidence that something went wrong and start seeing your curiosity, intuition, and even your body as valuable sources of information. You’ll discover: How to recognize when changing direction is giving you valuable information instead of proving you made the wrong choice. Why your body can reveal what’s aligned long before your metrics, plans, or rational mind catch up.How to stop using optimization and productivity as substitutes for trust—and integrate your strategic, ambitious side with your intuitive, feminine side. Before you rush into your next relationship, job, project, identity, or chapter, play this episode to learn how to integrate what the last chapter taught you so you can move forward without rebuilding the same life under a different name. 85| Why “Finish What You Started” Isn’t Always the Courageous Choice

What if the thing you keep trying to fix isn’t broken—what if it’s simply complete? We’re taught to have the courage to begin, keep going, pivot, optimize, and refuse to quit. But when you’re a high-achieving woman who knows how to push through discomfort, it can be much harder to recognize when something has already accomplished exactly what it came into your life to do. In this episode, Rachel takes the FitZen Project through one final project lifecycle—from initiation and planning to execution, endless change requests, and ultimately closure. After 18 months of experimenting, questioning, creating, healing, and becoming, she shares why closing this chapter isn’t failure. It’s the decision that makes space for what comes next. In this episode, you’ll discover: How to recognize the difference between something that needs another adjustment and something that has genuinely completed its purpose. Why changing your mind, message, direction, or identity doesn’t necessarily mean you failed to figure it out—and how those changes can become the work itself. How to release the sunk cost of who you’ve been, honor what a chapter gave you, and create space for the woman you’re becoming.Play the episode to discover how closing what’s complete can give you the clarity, courage, and space to step fully into your next era. What If You Don’t Need the Whole Plan? How to Trust Your Next Step

What If You Don’t Need the Whole Plan? How to Trust Your Next Step What if you’re not stuck because you don’t know what to do? What if you’re overthinking because you’re trying to figure out ten steps ahead when life is only asking you to take one? For fiercely independent women who are used to being in control, uncertainty can feel unbearable. So we plan harder. Push harder. Optimize everything. And somewhere along the way, the constant pressure to figure it all out becomes another road straight to overwhelm and burnout. After weeks of doing exactly that, I realized I was ignoring this week’s Microdose of Courage: Take the next logical step. In this short embodiment episode, we’re taking that Microdose out of our heads and into our bodies using ancient wisdom, feminine energy, and nervous system regulation to explore what it looks like to move forward without forcing clarity. Through the Taoist concept of wu wei, a perfectly timed Justice tarot card, and an Emu spirit animal pull that made me laugh out loud, we’ll explore the difference between aligned action and trying to control an outcome because you’re uncomfortable with uncertainty. We’ll talk about: How overthinking and control can keep you stuck instead of creating clarityWhy pushing harder can contribute to burnout and overwhelmHow wu wei teaches us to take aligned action without forcingWhy reconnecting with your feminine energy requires learning to receive before you respondHow slowing your nervous system can help you hear what you already knowA simple embodiment practice for finding alignment and discerning your next stepWhy creating true work-life balance may require less optimization—and more trustYou don’t need an aerial view of your entire life. You don't need to have your career, relationships, healing, purpose, and future perfectly mapped out before you're allowed to move. Sometimes the most aligned thing you can do is put your feet underneath you, stop demanding certainty, and listen. Microdose of Courage Take the next logical step. But before you take it, get quiet enough to know which step is actually yours. Receive before you respond. Discern before you execute. Then move. Because recovering from burnout isn't always about doing less. Sometimes it's about recognizing where you're using force instead of alignment—and allowing your feminine energy to remind you that you don't have to control every step to trust yourself with the next one. As Scott Lackey reminded us in this week’s conversation: Walk the way, and the way will appear. Want to keep this work going? When Did You Stop Being You? How to Find Your Way Back | Scott Lackey

When did you stop being you? Not all at once. Maybe it happened every time you said yes when you wanted to say no. Every time you chose what was expected over what you actually wanted. Every time you handed another tiny piece of yourself to a job, a relationship, a role, or the version of you everyone else needed you to be. Until one day, you look around at a life you helped build and wonder: Where the hell did I go? This episode is a little different. It’s the finale of my very first FitZen Book Club, where Lisa and I sat down with Scott Lackey, author of Wake Up to Die Again, after spending weeks reading, discussing, and questioning the hell out of his story. And what started as a conversation about the book became something much bigger. 🍋 THE SQUEEZE Scott describes what happens when we slowly give pieces of ourselves away—and why we often don’t realize how far we’ve wandered until we wake up feeling empty. But finding your way back doesn’t require having your entire life figured out. Sometimes, you just need to know which direction is yours. 🧃 THE JUICE In this conversation, we get into: What Scott understands about his own story now that he couldn't have known while writing itThe fear of creating something when you're convinced nobody will careHow we slowly give pieces of ourselves away without realizing itWhy hitting a low point can force you to finally pay attentionThe difference between measuring your life by distance versus directionWhat our scars reveal—and what happens when we stop hiding themThe terrifying freedom of letting people see who you actually areWhy you don't need to know the entire path before taking your next stepWhat Scott's readers have taught him about the book he wroteThe question Scott is asking himself now: What am I being called to wake up to next? And somewhere in the middle of all of it, we come back to one simple truth: Walk the way, and the way will appear. 💊 MICRODOSE OF COURAGE This week, don't figure out your entire life. Ask yourself: What direction do I know I want to move in? Then take the next logical step. One email. One conversation. One decision. One honest admission to yourself. You don't need proof that you're going to end up exactly where you think you're going. You just need enough courage to take the next step toward yourself. 📩 KEEP THE CONVERSATION GOING If you want to keep doing this work with me, join The Weekly Change Request—my free weekly email where we take the conversations happening on the podcast and turn them into something you can actually use in your life. Girl, What’s My Weakness? MEN! You can lead meetings, manage crises, and handle almost everything on your own—but one man changes his tone, and suddenly you’re asking three friends what to do. Girl…what’s your weakness? In this episode, Rachel gets honest about the years she gave her power away in romantic relationships—outsourcing decisions, managing other people’s emotions, softening her boundaries, and confusing control with safety. This isn’t an episode about blaming men. It’s about recognizing the moment you stop trusting yourself in love—and learning how to let the cards fall where they fall. Inside this episode:  Why you can feel powerful everywhere except in your relationships  How managing someone else’s emotions becomes self-abandonment  What the victimhood triangle has to do with outsourced decisions  Why your partner’s reaction is not yours to manage  How yoga and project management can teach you to stay in your own lane  The difference between responding and reacting  How to begin trusting your own judgment again Your Microdose of Courage Ask yourself: “If I trusted my own judgment, what would I do?” Then take one small action that honors your answer—before asking someone else what they think. How to Speak Your Truth Without Attacking Your Partner or Backing Down

You finally say what hurts—but are you communicating your truth or emotionally discharging it onto your partner? Using the right therapy words doesn’t automatically make a conversation kind, productive, or emotionally safe. But keeping quiet to avoid conflict isn’t the answer either. You shouldn’t have to choose between weaponizing your pain and abandoning yourself to keep the peace. In this Yoga mini, we explore how two yogic principles can help you recognize the moment your body prepares for war—and create enough space to tell the truth without attacking your partner or backing down from what you genuinely need. Because yoga isn’t only what happens on your mat. It’s the moment you notice your impulse to strike, defend, appease, or disappear—and remember that you still have a choice. Stay until the end for a guided practice and your Microdose of Courage to use before your next difficult conversation. Your feelings deserve a voice. The person you love deserves their humanity. And you deserve relationships where truth and kindness can exist in the same room. Doing Everything—and Resenting Your Partner? Make This Change Request

“Why do I have to do everything?” If that sentence keeps running through your mind, your relationship may have a scope problem. High-achieving women are excellent at noticing gaps and closing them. You handle the laundry, schedule the appointments, plan the vacation, manage the calendar—and eventually, the responsibilities you silently accepted become the receipts you present during an argument. What began as helpfulness quietly becomes hostility. In this Project Management mini, you’ll discover how to recognize relationship scope creep and turn one responsibility you resent into a clear change request to your partner—before your resentment becomes contempt. Because an unspoken expectation is not an agreement, and waiting for your partner to notice what everything is costing you is not a sustainable relationship-management system. Your Microdose of Courage Submit one relationship change request. Name the responsibility. Tell the truth about its impact. Request the change. If you can lead confidently at work but begin questioning yourself when your partner is unhappy, join the free Weekly Change Request for one email and one courageous action each week to help you practice staying on your own side. How to Say What Hurts Without Destroying What You LoveYour pain can be completely valid—and you can still be wrong in the way you treat someone you love.
