YTB: Dance Discussion is a research-informed podcast and educational resource created to empower boys in dance, challenge stereotypes and promote greater inclusion across the performing arts industry. Hosted by professional performer, educator and advocate Andrew Ross-Graham, the podcast explores the experiences of boys, men and male-identifying dancers through a combination of personal storytelling, academic research, industry perspectives and practical discussion. Topics include dance history, ballet, mentorship, leadership, body image, mental health, career pathways, choreography, representation and the future of boys in dance.     About Andrew

    Episode 8: About Andrew My Journey Through Dance, Performance and Beyond Who is Andrew Ross-Graham, and how did a young boy who started dance lessons at the age of three build a career that has spanned performance, education, choreography, leadership and advocacy? In this special and highly personal episode, Andrew shares his own journey through the world of dance and entertainment, reflecting on the experiences, mentors, opportunities and challenges that helped shape his path. From growing up as one of the few boys in dance classes, training with the Queensland Ballet's Junior Extension Program, studying at the Queensland Dance School of Excellence, performing internationally with Royal Caribbean, appearing in productions such as Hairspray, working in theme parks and live entertainment, directing large-scale immersive experiences, creating Equal Entertainment, and eventually transitioning into teaching and advocacy, Andrew explores the many pathways that can emerge from a life in dance. A reflective conversation about passion, perseverance, mentorship and the belief that dance can open doors far beyond the stage. Life experience is often the greatest teacher, and this episode is a celebration of the lessons learned through a lifetime in the arts.

Looking at both the opportunities and challenges that come with living in an increasingly connected world, he examines how platforms such as Instagram, TikTok and YouTube have helped increase visibility, representation and access to positive male role models while also contributing to issues including comparison, unrealistic expectations, cyberbullying and creative burnout. Through research, personal reflection and examples from the dance industry, we discuss how boys can navigate the digital landscape in healthy and productive ways while using technology as a tool for inspiration, growth and connection.     Episode 6: Dames, Drag and Dance What role do drag, dames and gender performance play in the world of dance? In this thought-provoking episode, we explore the history, artistry and cultural significance of drag and dame traditions within dance, ballet and musical theatre. From Shakespearean theatre and classical ballet to productions such as Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Kinky Boots and La Cage aux Folles, he examines how performers have used gender roles, character work and creative expression throughout history. Drawing on personal experiences, professional training and reflections on identity, inclusion and representation, we also discuss the long-standing stereotypes surrounding male dancers and sexuality, while highlighting how the arts have often provided a safe space for self-expression, diversity and acceptance.
