#54: Embrace Inexperience: Be a Beginner

Have you stopped trying new things because you don't want to look foolish, awkward, or inexperienced? In this episode of the No Knockouts Podcast, I explore why so many of us avoid being beginners and how that fear may be keeping us from growth, opportunity, and fulfillment. From childhood, when learning and making mistakes were expected, to adulthood, where we often feel pressure to appear competent and confident, many of us develop a fear of looking new. If you've ever delayed starting a business, joining a group, learning a skill, changing careers, or pursuing a dream because you weren't sure you'd be good at it, this episode is for you. You'll learn: • Why being a beginner is essential for personal growth • How protecting your ego can keep you stuck • The power of adopting a beginner's mindset • Why midlife often requires us to become beginners again • How confidence is built through experience, not before it Every expert was once a beginner. Every meaningful chapter starts with not knowing. It's time to embrace inexperience, get curious, and give yourself permission to grow. Because if it feels awkward, uncomfortable, or unfamiliar, it may be a sign you're expanding into a bigger life. . Shift Your Energy and Accomplish More. I Dare You!

In this episode of the No Knockouts podcast, I talk about the power of daring yourself to take action instead of staying stuck in overthinking, fear, perfectionism, and endless planning. Inspired by the old-school game show Double Dare, this episode explores how a playful shift in energy can help you stop hesitating and finally start doing. If you’ve been waiting until you feel ready, motivated, confident, or certain before chasing your goals, this conversation is your challenge to move anyway. I share about:  stop overthinking and start implementing  turn knowledge into action  overcome fear with courage  break out of stagnation and comfort zones  shift your mindset and energy to accomplish more  face obstacles instead of avoiding them  dare yourself into growth, momentum, and a better life This episode is a reminder that your life may not change from one more plan, book, or podcast… but it just might change from one brave act of movement. If you’re ready to stop waiting and start going after what you really want, this episode is for you. I dare you to listen.... #52: Fulfill Your Age

What if your birthday was more than just getting older? What if it became a call to live more intentionally? In this powerful and reflective episode of the No Knockouts podcast, I share a concept I'm embracing as I close out my 40's and I approach 50: Fulfill Your Age. After realizing that episode #6: Embrace Your Age became the most-listened-to episode of the podcast, I dive deeper into the ideas of aging, purpose, accountability, personal growth, intentional living, and creating a life that feels deeply fulfilling, not just long. I open up about:  Turning 49 and approaching a new decade of life  Birthdays can feel more personal than New Year’s resolutions  Creating a “birthday word of the year”  Living with intention instead of waiting for “someday”  The emotional impact of breast cancer on my relationship with the future  Learning to dream, plan, and hope again  Letting go of habits, fears, and patterns that no longer belong in your next chapter  Adding life to your years, not just years to your life This episode is for anyone navigating aging, midlife transitions, reinvention, healing, resilience, or the desire to live more fully and authentically. If you’ve ever wondered how to embrace your age, create a meaningful life, or move into your next chapter with courage and intention, this conversation will speak directly to your heart. Welcome. . #51: One Brave Decision

One year ago, I hit record on the very first episode of the No Knockouts podcast without fully knowing where it would lead. I was scared, uncertain, and definitely not “ready,” but I made one brave decision to do it anyway. In this special 1-year anniversary episode, I reflect on what podcasting has taught me about courage, consistency, self-trust, personal growth, transformation, and the ripple effect our choices create. I’m sharing two of the biggest lessons I’ve learned this past year:  You don’t have to do everything alone.   Ask for help. One brave decision can absolutely change your life. We talk about:  overcoming fear and self-doubt  following through on your goals  becoming the person willing to begin  midlife growth and reinvention  learning through action  intentional living  creating positive ripples through courage  there’s never a perfect time to start This episode is for anyone sitting on a dream, waiting to feel ready, or wondering if one small decision could really make a difference. Sometimes your entire life changes the moment you decide to begin. If you’ve ever wanted to use your voice, make your mark, or step into a more authentic version of yourself, this episode will encourage you to take that next brave step. Thank YOU for being part of this first year of the No Knockouts podcast. Keep going. Keep growing. And keep living a No Knockouts life. . #50: The Pain We Hide

In this powerful Episode #50 of the No Knockouts Podcast, I dive into a topic we all experience, but it's not fun to live through or talk about: hidden emotional pain. Just because pain isn’t visible doesn’t mean it's not there. So many of us are silently carrying hurt from relationships, health struggles, loss, rejection, money, or life transitions, while appearing strong on the outside. I share a little about my personal experience with breast cancer and explore why we hide our pain, how we unintentionally invalidate our own emotions, and the difference between processing pain privately vs. avoiding it altogether. I go into:  Why comparing your pain to others is harmful  How suppressed emotions can quietly impact your relationships and well-being  The role fear, rejection, and past experiences play in emotional silence  Why vulnerability feels risky, but is necessary for growth and healing How to begin acknowledging and processing your pain in a healthy way If you’ve ever felt like you had to “hold it together,” minimize your struggles, or stay silent to avoid conflict, this episode will likely resonate deeply with you. Your pain is valid. And healing starts when you accept it, acknowledge it, and stop hiding it. Remember: You don’t have to share everything with everyone, but you do have to be honest with yourself. . Also, I am celebrating the No Knockouts podcast turning 1 year old this month.  You're invited to Make Your Mark: A No Knockouts Celebration.  Join me on Wednesday, May 13th at 6:00 pm central (cst) on Zoom and celebrate with me! #49: A True Homecoming, No Self-Abandonment: A 9-week Book Report

In this episode, I’m sharing some big takeaways from Homecoming by Dr. Thema Bryant.   This is not a traditional book review.  This is a conversation about returning home to yourself.   Have you ever felt like you lost yourself somewhere along the way?  Many of us drift away from our authentic self.  We adjust, we tolerate, we people-please, and we learn to survive… and we slowly lose connection with who we truly are. You might be living in survival mode, but you can start to come back home to yourself. In this episode, we talk about:  people-pleasing the difference between peace and silence  emotional disconnection self-abandonment  truth-telling, honesty, and the courage it takes to step away from what no longer serves you and come back home to yourself reclaim your voice, your joy, and your life If you’ve ever felt off, unfulfilled, or like something is missing, even if life has been "good enough," this episode is for you. It’s time to come home.  This is a brief discussion of the book Homecoming by Dr. Thema Bryant. . #48: Amateur Habits: Upgrade and Turn Pro

If someone studied your daily habits, what would they say about you? In this episode, we’re taking a real, honest look at the difference between amateur habits and professional habits and how those habits are quietly shaping your life every single day. Inspired by Turning Pro by Steven Pressfield, this conversation challenges you to stop living on autopilot and start showing up with intention. Though making the decision to improve your habits is simple, it's not necessarily easy or comfortable.  It requires letting go of excuses, distractions, and comfort in order to step into the version of you that you know you’re meant to be. I discuss:  The key differences between amateur and professional habits  How your daily choices are creating your identity and your future  Why motivation isn’t enough and what actually creates lasting change  How to start upgrading your habits in a realistic, sustainable way If you’ve ever felt stuck in the cycle of getting inspired… only to fall back into old patterns, this episode is for you. And if you’re ready to stop thinking about becoming better and actually start doing it, I invite you to join my 2x22 Challenge.   We start April 22nd. You don’t just have habits… you become them. . #47: A Rich, Great Life: Make It an Adventure

What does it really mean to live a great, rich life? It’s not all about money.  It’s not having a perfect life.  And, it’s not something that just happens by accident. In this episode, we’re talking about how the quality of your life is directly connected to your personal growth, and how becoming a better version of yourself is the gateway to living a more fulfilling, meaningful, and rich life. If you’ve been feeling stuck in routine, disconnected from your potential, or craving something more (even if you can’t quite name it), this is your invitation to step into something greater. We’ll dive into:  Why your life gets better when you get better  Taking full responsibility for your life (and why it’s empowering, not heavy)  Upgrading your identity to match the life you want  Building habits that actually support your growth  Shifting your perspective and turning your life into an adventure Maybe the life you want isn’t as far away as it feels… Maybe it just requires a new way of thinking, showing up, and choosing. It’s time to stop going through the motions and start living with intention. Make your life great. Make your life rich. Make it an adventure. . *** If you’re in the Houston area, I’d love to see you in person at my upcoming workshop, Your Rise to Greatness.
