#68: I Used to Have Fun, with Niki Sterner

In this third episode of a series with Move Forward Messy author, Niki Sterner and I discuss FUN and PLAY! First, we go back into memories of our childhood and recall what we did for fun.  Then we discuss how as we fall into our adult roles, we get serious, play less, and have less fun.   Yet, fun and play is a very important part of our lives.  It helps us stay curious, creative, and helps our brains feel safe and experimental.  Playing isn't about a performance you have to be perfect at, it's about experimenting, laughing, and having enjoyment in your life.   Niki is hosting a Move Forward Messy: 3-day Confidence Bootcamp on Zoom and on day 2, PLAY is the topic of the day.  Playing is a fundamental aspect of achieving your dreams and moving closer to your goals.   Niki says: "My dream is more important than my fear.""I move before I feel ready.""A couple minutes of play will change your whole day."ENJOY this episode, bring some play into your life, and sign up for the Move Forward Messy: 3-day Confidence Bootcamp. . #65: Check Engine Soon: Your Personal Warning Lights

What if your mind and body had dashboard lights and warning beeps like a vehicle does? In this episode, I use the warning lights in our cars as a metaphor for the signals our bodies and minds send to us.  A red light might mean something needs immediate attention.  A yellow light may be less urgent, but it is still telling you "Hey, don't ignore me." Our personal warning lights can look like exhaustion, irritability, anxiety, restlessness, overwhelm, or a nagging feeling that something is not quite right. I talk about how we are real good at ignoring yellow lights but that might just be delaying a bigger problem and by doing this, we make life harder than it needs to be.   What's flashing red or yellow in your life right now?  And what is working just fine? Your body's signals, or warning lights, aren't your enemy.  They're information.  Your body might just be trying to tell you something.   Listen to yourself.  Maintenance is easier than repair.   . #64: Complete Silence

What happens when you stop filling every quiet moment with noise? In this episode, I explore the surprising power of complete silence.  No radio.  No television.  No podcast.  No audiobook.  No phone call.  Just you, your thoughts, and a little space to breathe.   I share a personal story about how driving in silence recently gave me the opportunity to process what had been all tangled up in my head and how once I made some mental space, creativity, joy, and excitement started to return. Being in silence isn't the same thing as staying silent.  It's not about withholding your voice or avoiding what needs to be said.  It's about intentionally creating quiet space where you can slow down, process, reflect, and hear yourself. In a world filled with constant stimulation and noise, maybe what you need isn't more information, more advice, or more entertainment.  Maybe you simply need some space. So, can you sit in complete silence? Find a little quiet and see what you discover when you stop filling every empty space. Silence might just give you room to hear yourself. . #63: I Will NEVER Do That Again

Have you ever said, “I will never do that again”? Or had an experience so good that you knew you wanted to do it again and again? What if those two responses, Again and Never Again, could become powerful tools for making better decisions and living more intentionally? In this episode, I explore the idea of creating an Again/Never Again list.  It's another tool, like a pro/con list.  Instead of endlessly analyzing your options, you can use your lived experiences as data. What worked? What didn’t? What filled you up? What drained you? What are you proud of? What are you no longer willing to tolerate? Your experiences have already taught you things. The question is whether you’re paying attention to the lessons. Your Again list can help you identify what you want more of:  trusting your instincts, prioritizing your health, having difficult conversations, resting, taking risks, and spending time with people who make you better. Your Never Again list can help you draw boundaries around what you’re no longer willing to repeat:  ignoring red flags, betraying your values, letting fear win, staying silent to keep the peace, or wearing yourself into burnout. These aren't rules for other people. They're commitments to yourself. Your life has left you clues. Your job is to notice them, learn from them, and use that wisdom to guide the life you build next. So ask yourself: Would I do this again? Or never again? Sometimes, the answers you need are already within you. #62: Decide Ahead of Time

Have you ever caught yourself saying, "We'll see how it goes" before a vacation, family gathering, presentation, or an event? What if that mindset is setting you up for disappointment? In this episode, I explore a simple but powerful shift: deciding ahead of time that an experience will be good, not because everything will go according to plan, but because you choose to show up with acceptance instead of expectations. Learn how pre-deciding your mindset can help you let go of perfection, stop grading every experience, and start finding joy in life as it unfolds. Resilience isn't about controlling every outcome.  It's about embracing "what is." If you've ever found yourself disappointed because reality didn't match the picture in your head, this episode will encourage you to trade evaluation for presence and discover the freedom that comes from deciding, in advance, that whatever happens...it can be perfect as-is. What if the secret to enjoying life isn't getting better outcomes, but deciding ahead of time that you'll find the good in whatever unfolds?  Support the show Come say Hi on social media: https://www.instagram.com/noknockouts/ https://www.facebook.com/noknockouts Feed your brain with goodness with a free, weekly coaching email: https://noknockouts.com/mondaymorsels Sign up for the Do Midlife Well book club: https://noknockouts.com/domidlifewell Start your coaching journey here: https://noknockouts.com/the-big-five Dig into the website: https://noknockouts.com/ Buy me a coffee: https://buymeacoffee.com/noknockouts Make today a No Knockouts kind of day!

#61: Have Good Form | Practice Doesn't Necessarily Make Perfect

What if the biggest thing holding you back isn't how hard you're trying, but how you're moving through life? In sports, coaches constantly teach proper form and technique. Good form improves performance, builds strength, and helps prevent injury. But what if that same principle applies to your everyday life? In this episode of the No Knockouts podcast, I explore how the habits, thought patterns, and emotional responses you practice every day become your "life form." Whether you're navigating midlife, feeling overwhelmed, struggling with people-pleasing, or simply trying to become a stronger, healthier version of yourself, this episode will challenge you to stop asking, "How do I try harder?" and start asking, "How's my form?" You'll discover:  Repeated thoughts and behaviors become your default way of living.Burnout, resentment, and exhaustion can be signs of poor "life form."Practical ways to build healthier mental and emotional patterns through small, consistent practices.Resilience isn't about avoiding life's knocks, it's about developing the strength to move through them well. You don't have to be perfect. You don't have to have it all figured out. But if you want to build a life that's stronger, healthier, and more resilient, it starts by paying attention to your form. Remember: You're practicing becoming someone every single day. Make sure you're practicing becoming the person you truly want to be.
