02| The Holy Spirit in the Old Testament | SPIRIT AND TRUTH | Genesis 1:1-2 | Rosie Carter

In this teaching, we explore the work and presence of the Holy Spirit throughout the Old Testament. From the very beginning of creation, the Spirit of God brings order to chaos and gives life to humanity. We look at how the Holy Spirit anointed and empowered those called to lead, revealed wisdom and understanding, and equipped people with gifts and skills for God’s purposes. We also explore the Spirit’s role in prophecy and how the people of God experienced His presence. Through passages from Genesis, Exodus, Numbers, 1 Samuel and Isaiah, we discover that the Holy Spirit was actively working throughout the Old Testament and learn how we can call upon Him to help us use the gifts God has given us.

A Word and Spirit Church | VISION SUNDAY | John 4:19-26 | Dave Carter

What does it mean to be a church that is rooted in God's Word and alive in the power of His Spirit? In this Vision Sunday message, we explore the vision for Freedom Church Romford to be a Word and Spirit church. Drawing from Jesus' conversation with the Samaritan woman in John 4, we see His call for true worshippers to worship the Father "in spirit and truth". The message explores the dangers of separating the two. Spirit without truth can become shallow and driven by temporary emotional experiences, while truth without Spirit can become dry, passionless and legalistic. Instead, we want both: a church saturated in Scripture, grounded in the gospel and committed to biblical teaching, while also making space for prayer, spiritual gifts, faith, expectation and the active work of the Holy Spirit. This vision isn't simply about what happens from the front on a Sunday. It's an invitation for every one of us to grow in both the Word and the Spirit — sharing what God is teaching us through Scripture and what He is doing in our lives through His Spirit.

Trusting in God in the Highs and Lows | YOUTH TAKE OVER | Genesis 37-50 | Ethan Rattie & David Carter

How do we trust God when life doesn't go the way we expect? In this message, Ethan Rattie and David Carter explore the extraordinary story of Joseph and what it teaches us about trusting God through both the highs and lows of life. Following four defining moments in Joseph's journey — the Pit, the Prison, the Palace and the Prize — we see Joseph experience betrayal, injustice, hardship, promotion and ultimately restoration. Yet throughout his changing circumstances, God remained with him and continued to work out His purposes. Joseph's story reminds us that difficult seasons do not mean that God has abandoned us. Even when we cannot see what He is doing, God can be at work through our circumstances, preparing us and using our lives for purposes far greater than we realise. Whether we're currently experiencing a high or a low, we can choose to trust the God who sees the whole story.

07 | What Happens When We Scatter? A Sent People | WE ARE THE CHURCH | Matthew 10:1-20 | Richard Hylton

What happens when the church leaves the building? In this message from our WE ARE THE CHURCH series, Richard Hylton explores Jesus' call to be a sent people. Looking at Matthew 10 and the examples of ordinary men and women throughout the New Testament, Richard reminds us that every follower of Jesus has been sent with a purpose. While some are called to distant nations or church planting, many are sent into their families, workplaces, schools, and communities to represent Christ. This message challenges the idea that only the most gifted or qualified are called by God. Jesus chose ordinary, flawed disciples and entrusted them with His mission, demonstrating that God works through willing hearts rather than perfect people. As we step out in faith, relying on God's provision and guidance, He equips us for the places He has called us to serve. Following Jesus is not always comfortable or easy, but wherever He sends us, He promises to be with us, give us the words we need, and use our lives as a witness to His Kingdom. Where is God sending you, and are you willing to go?

06 | What Happens When We Gather? A Spiritual Family | WE ARE THE CHURCH | John 13:34-35 | Rosie Carter

What does it mean to be more than a collection of individuals and truly become a spiritual family? In this message from our WE ARE THE CHURCH series, Rosie Carter explores God's design for His people to live as members of one spiritual family. Looking at passages from Deuteronomy, John, Matthew, and 1 John, Rosie reminds us that through faith in Christ we have been adopted into God's family and given the privilege of being called His children. The message explores the many "one another" commands found throughout the New Testament, showing how practical acts of love, hospitality, encouragement, forgiveness, and service help build healthy Christian community. These instructions are not simply good ideas but God's blueprint for how His church should function. Rosie challenges us to consider the part each of us plays in creating a church culture that reflects Christ's love. As we honour one another, bear one another's burdens, and put others before ourselves, we become a powerful witness to the world of God's transforming grace. Jesus said, "By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another." What would it look like for us to live that out more fully as a spiritual family? Here is the 59 One Anothers sheet that Rosie distributed
