    Redeeming Our Bodies Part 1: Salvation Involves The Body

    In Part 1 of our series on Redeeming Our Bodies, we begin to imagine how our bodies are involved in our salvation and participation in the life of God. The human soul and body are deeply intertwined. The soul’s pain, shame, and sin come out in the body. What’s done to and in the body has a direct impact on the soul. Because of this, Jesus took on a body to redeem humanity, and following Jesus involves our bodies as we are healed and transformed.

    This week we hear from Lora Hostetler on loving God with our whole being. Lora uses Gary Thomas' book, Sacred Pathways, to describe nine different ways that people express love to God and encounter his presence.

    The Lord’s Loyal Love (Hosea 6)

    Both Hosea the prophet and Jesus after him speak the words, “I desire mercy, not sacrifice.” The Hebrew word for mercy, Khesed, is a dynamic word that describes God’s loyal, steadfast, ongoing love for his people. God has demonstrated this kind of love over and over, even when our love has failed and we have not been loyal and steadfast. The destination for followers of Jesus is to not become people who outwardly keep up nice appearances, but inwardly are people of loyal steadfast love to the Lord and one another.

    On this Trinity Sunday, we explore the Christian teaching that God is three persons: Father, Son, and Spirit, united perfectly in one divine nature. From this communion of three persons flows incredible gifts of grace, love and fellowship with God and one another. As followers of Christ we are invited to not only receive the wonderful gifts of God, but to be the means by which God gives good gifts to others.

    The Gospel is a story of paradise given, paradise lost, and paradise reopened. In this sermon, Pastor Jackson discusses reasons the story of Ascension is difficult for modern Christians. We then look through the story of scripture to see how Ascension is the reopening of paradise as Christ, in his human body, leads humanity back to paradise at the right hand of the Father.

    On the night of his betrayal, Jesus tells the disciples that he will go to prepare a home for them. Part of the journey of faith is finding our true home in the love of the Trinity, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. In our true home with God we find belonging, provision, and an eternal stability.
