Judas betrayed Him. Both recognized the seriousness of what they had done and experienced remorse. Yet their stories unfolded very differently. Christians have reflected on the similarities and differences between Peter and Judas since the early church. And while we may be tempted to look at other people and wonder whether they're more like Peter or Judas, their stories also invite us to examine ourselves. There may be places where our convictions are weak. There may be areas where our character needs to grow or our faith needs to mature. Peter's denial shows us just how badly someone who genuinely loves Jesus can still get something wrong. But his failure wasn't the end. We can turn toward God after we've sinned. We can repent. We can receive His mercy. We can allow Him to strengthen what is weak in us and continue His work in our lives. Friends, God is merciful. No matter how badly you've gotten something wrong, don't allow shame to convince you to stay away from Him. His arms are open. Maybe they know more Scripture. Maybe they seem to pray more. Maybe they appear spiritually mature in areas where we're still struggling. But God has an individual relationship with each of us. He knows where you are. He knows what you've experienced. He knows where you still need to grow. And as you continue seeking Him, you can trust Him with that process. Psalm 119:71 gives us another perspective on our individual journeys: “It was good for me to be afflicted so that I might learn your decrees.” Even affliction became part of the psalmist's learning. The same can be true in our lives. Some of the struggles, mistakes, disappointments, and difficult seasons we've experienced may teach us things about God that become deeply personal to us. And what we've learned along the way can eventually help us encourage someone walking through something similar. You don't need somebody else's journey. Your story doesn't have to be perfect to have purpose. Whether you're two or 92, keep seeking God. Keep walking with Him. Keep allowing Him to teach and grow you. Don't mistake a season of waiting for a sign that nothing is happening. --- Sometimes God's timing seems to have two speeds: slow and suddenly. When we've been praying, waiting, obeying, and trusting God without seeing an answer, it's easy to wonder whether we heard Him correctly, missed Him somehow, or misunderstood what He was doing. But God's timing is not the same as God's inactivity. Second Peter 3:9 reminds us that the Lord is not slow in keeping His promise as some understand slowness. In context, Peter is speaking about God's patience and His desire for people to come to repentance. Then Isaiah 48:3 gives us another picture of God's timing. God reminds His people that He had announced what He would do—and then suddenly He acted, and it came to pass. Sometimes there is a long stretch when we can't see much happening. And sometimes things change suddenly. An answer comes. A door opens. An opportunity appears. Something shifts that we couldn't have predicted or orchestrated ourselves. So don't become discouraged simply because you can't see movement yet. God can use the waiting to prepare us, strengthen us, grow us, and deepen our dependence on Him. Keep trusting God in the slow. Keep walking with Him.     Why Spiritual Growth Takes Time — Matthew 13:31-32 — October 6, 2026

    Spiritual growth doesn't happen overnight. Salvation happens in a moment, but becoming more like Christ is the work of a lifetime. Spiritual growth takes time. Salvation happens when we place our faith in Jesus Christ. Sanctification is the lifelong process through which the Holy Spirit continues working in us, helping us grow in obedience, maturity, and Christlikeness. That means we shouldn't interpret every mistake, struggle, or imperfect moment as evidence that God has abandoned us or stopped loving us. We're still growing. In Matthew 13:31-32, Jesus describes the kingdom of heaven using a mustard seed. It begins remarkably small and then grows. Our walk with God involves growth too. As we yield to the Holy Spirit, obey God's Word, submit ourselves to Him, and continue following Jesus, God changes us. What begins small can grow into something He uses in ways we couldn't have imagined at the beginning. So don't become discouraged because you aren't where you want to be yet. Look at where God has brought you from. Keep walking with Him. Keep allowing the Holy Spirit to work. Sometimes there are things in our lives that genuinely need to change. There are difficult seasons, seasons of growth, and seasons God never intended to last forever. But sometimes things are actually pretty good—and comparison is keeping us from seeing it. Psalm 16:5-6 gives us a beautiful picture of appreciating the portion God has given us. David recognizes that his lot is secure and that his boundary lines have fallen in pleasant places. God knows you personally. He knows what you need, where you need to grow, what season you're in, and where He is taking you. Something may not include every detail you would have chosen for yourself. It may even take some time before you recognize its value. But it may be particularly well suited to what you need right now. So before deciding that the grass must be greener somewhere else, take another look at what God has already given you. Your grass may be green too. Some of that opposition came from the leaders of Judah and even people from his own hometown. God knew what Jeremiah was experiencing. He wasn't dismissing Jeremiah's feelings or pretending the opposition wasn't difficult. But God also knew what was ahead. He challenged Jeremiah: if running with people had worn him out, how would he compete with horses? Jeremiah was going to need greater endurance. And sometimes we do too. When we're walking through a difficult season, our first prayer may simply be, “God, get me out of this.” But perhaps another prayer should be, “God, strengthen me while I'm here.” Use this season to draw closer to Him. Allow Him to strengthen your faith, deepen your dependence on Him, and build the endurance you may need for whatever comes next. You will get to the other side. We don't know a great deal about him, but what Scripture tells us is meaningful. Mnason was from Cyprus, was connected to the Christian community, and opened his home to Paul and his companions. His service was simple, practical, and important. Mnason wasn't the person preaching in this story. He supported the people who were. And ministry still needs people willing to do that today. Maybe you pray for someone doing ministry. Maybe you give financially. Maybe you provide a meal, offer encouragement, volunteer, open your home, handle practical needs, or quietly make someone else's work possible. Don't underestimate that service simply because it happens behind the scenes.     Never Underestimate the Influence You Have — Numbers 25:7-8

    You don't need a famous name or a large platform to have influence. Phinehas reminds us how one person's faithfulness can affect the people God has placed around them. You may never be the most recognized person in your profession, family, church, or community. In the middle of that crisis, a priest named Phinehas took decisive action against the blatant sin occurring among the people. God's judgment was turned away, and the plague that had killed 24,000 Israelites came to an end. Phinehas may not be one of the most prominent people in Scripture, but his story reminds us of the influence one faithful person can have. Maybe you're a parent, teacher, manager, healthcare worker, firefighter, coach, ministry leader, or community leader. You may not be the most famous person in your field, but there are still people watching your example and affected by your decisions. You don't need to influence everyone. Be faithful with the people God has entrusted to you. Lead them well. Live in a way that points them toward God.
