    The Shelter God Made for the Storm | Come Follow Me Bedtime Story | Isaiah 25

    A gentle story about a shelter built long before anyone needed it. A Come Follow Me bedtime story for September 21 to 27, "A Marvellous Work and a Wonder" (Isaiah 13-14; 22; 24-30; 35). Isaiah paints pictures with words, and one of his warmest is a shelter. He says God is a refuge from the storm and a shadow from the heat. Tonight's story follows a girl named Adah and her little brother Eli on a hot hillside at the end of the barley harvest, and the small stone shelter their grandfather carried up that hill one stone at a time, because someday, he said, someone I love is going to need it. When the rain comes they are already inside, with warm bread and figs and honey, and a grandmother who tells them what the prophet promised: that God does not always make the hard things go away, but always gives us somewhere to be while they pass. And she tells them the most beautiful part, from Isaiah 25, that one day God will make a feast on the mountain for everybody, and will wipe away the tears from off all faces. If the grown-ups in the house want the same week in their own language, the morning meditation sits in Isaiah 29 with the sealed book nobody could open, and the sleep meditation goes out to Isaiah 35, where the parched ground becomes a pool.     A Marvellous Work and a Wonder | Come Follow Me Morning Meditation | Isaiah 29

    Begin today with the promise God made to people who felt too ordinary to be part of anything holy. A Come Follow Me morning meditation for September 21 to 27, "A Marvellous Work and a Wonder" (Isaiah 13-14; 22; 24-30; 35). This week Isaiah moves from warning to wonder. In Isaiah 29 a sealed book is handed first to a man who can read and then to a man who cannot, and neither one can open it. Into that closed moment God answers, therefore I will proceed to do a marvellous work among this people, even a marvellous work and a wonder. He promises the deaf will hear the words of the book, the eyes of the blind will see out of obscurity, and the meek will increase their joy. Isaiah lays a sure foundation stone in Zion and adds the line that makes an unhurried morning possible: he that believeth shall not make haste. If this is the first episode you have found this week, there are two more waiting. The sleep meditation goes to Isaiah 35, where the parched ground becomes a pool and the desert blossoms. The bedtime story takes the children to a small stone shelter on a hillside, and the promise that God wipes away every tear.     The Parched Ground Shall Become a Pool | Come Follow Me Sleep Meditation | Isaiah 35

    Rest tonight in the promise Isaiah made to ground that had given up expecting anything. A Come Follow Me sleep meditation for September 21 to 27, "A Marvellous Work and a Wonder" (Isaiah 13-14; 22; 24-30; 35). Isaiah 35 is written to a people who had watched good things fall apart. Cities emptied, harvests thinned, a whole landscape gone dry and quiet. Into that dryness the prophet says the wilderness and the solitary place shall be glad, the desert shall rejoice and blossom as the rose, and the parched ground shall become a pool. He tells them to strengthen the weak hands and confirm the feeble knees, and says to those of a fearful heart, be strong, fear not, your God will come and save you. Then he shows them a highway called the way of holiness, built wide enough that the wayfaring men, though fools, shall not err therein. Alongside it this meditation carries Isaiah 26: with my soul have I desired thee in the night, and, thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee.     Whose Side Are You On | Ark Conspiracy Ch. 35 | Come Follow Me Fiction (God Is My Salvation)

    Caught red-handed, Noah gives the man hunting him nothing, then hands the woman who took his mother a letter he never read. Come Follow Me fiction for September 14–20, "God Is My Salvation" (Isaiah 1–12): The Ark Conspiracy, Chapter 35. This chapter walks beside Isaiah 1–12, where the prophet warns a people who have gone badly wrong and, in the same breath, offers them a way back before they have earned one: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow. In a freezing research station at the top of the world, seventeen-year-old Noah Reyes has to decide what to do with the one person on the other side who might still be reachable, Dr. Kassandra Voss, while Jason Vale and his men wait to follow him wherever the compass pointed.     The Cloth That Turned White as Snow | Come Follow Me Bedtime Story | Isaiah 1

    A gentle bedtime story about a stain that would not wash out, and the kindest promise God ever made about it. A Come Follow Me bedtime story for September 14–20, "God Is My Salvation" (Isaiah 1–12). A girl kneels by a stream at the end of the day with a piece of cloth she cannot get clean, and her grandmother sits down beside her and tells her what the prophet Isaiah said that afternoon. God had noticed His people drifting, and He did not say go away. He said come. Though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow. And because no one could scrub their way there, God promised to send a child who would be called Wonderful, Counsellor, the Prince of Peace.     God Is My Salvation | Come Follow Me Morning Meditation | Isaiah 1–12

    Begin the day with the sentence the prophet finally stopped explaining and simply said out loud. A Come Follow Me morning meditation for September 14–20, "God Is My Salvation" (Isaiah 1–12). Isaiah is standing in the temple in the year his king died, sure of nothing except his own smallness, when a live coal from the altar touches his lips and God calls him clean. Only then does the question come, and only then can he answer it. We sit with King Ahaz, whose heart moved like trees in the wind while armies gathered on his border, and hear God answer that fear with a child named Immanuel. And we end at the wells of salvation, drawing water with joy. If this one steadies you, the sleep meditation this week rests under Isaiah's cloud and fire, the covering God makes over every ordinary house, and the bedtime story follows a girl at a stream with a stain she cannot wash out and the promise that scarlet becomes white as snow.     A Covert from the Storm | Come Follow Me Sleep Meditation | Isaiah 1–12

    Rest tonight under a promise God has already kept once — a cloud by day and a fire by night over every ordinary house. A Come Follow Me sleep meditation for September 14–20, "God Is My Salvation" (Isaiah 1–12). Isaiah describes a covering the Lord creates over every dwelling place and calls it a place of refuge, a covert from storm and from rain — the same pillar of cloud and fire that walked Israel out of Egypt, offered again to a tired nation. He shows us a mountain with the house of the Lord upon it and people walking toward it unhurried, swords beaten into plowshares, the wolf lying down with the lamb, and a little child leading them.     One Minute at Midnight | Ark Conspiracy Ch. 34 | Come Follow Me Fiction (He Shall Direct Thy Paths)

    One night. One minute. And a compass needle that is not supposed to move. A Come Follow Me fiction chapter for September 7–13, "He Shall Direct Thy Paths" (Proverbs 1–4; 15–16; 22; 31; Ecclesiastes 1–3; 11–12). This week the Come, Follow Me reading turns to Proverbs and Ecclesiastes — Solomon's collected wisdom, written down so someone coming after him would not have to learn it the hard way. Proverbs makes a quiet promise: lean not to your own understanding, and He shall direct thy paths. Ecclesiastes says the same thing from the other side, in the voice of a man who tried every shortcut and found each season arriving on its own schedule. Both agree on the order of operations. The commitment comes first. The path opens after. Chapter 34 sits inside that order.
