    Season 2, Episode 7 - Meat Dave

    🎙️ CHEESESTEAK QUEERS — EPISODE 7 IS HERE! 🧀🏳️‍🌈  This week we chat with Dave (he/him) who is a Philadelphia-area playwright, theater director, comic book writer, podcast creator, teaching artist, and educator with more than 15 years of experience. His work centers LGBTQ+ characters in genres where they’ve traditionally been overlooked, including crime, noir, horror, mystery, and westerns. His plays have been produced throughout Philadelphia, New York City, Ithaca, and the Las Vegas Fringe Festival. His play Ceremony was a semifinalist for the Terrence McNally Award and a finalist for the PlayPenn New Works Conference. Dave also co-runs a monthly new play reading series with the Media Arts Council, now in its fifth year. A Temple University theater graduate, Dave has worked as a director and artistic leader with numerous Philadelphia theater companies, directing both classic and contemporary works, including Angels in America, A Streetcar Named Desire, Doubt, and Jesus Hopped the ‘A’ Train. He later earned his MFA in Writing for the Stage and Screen from Point Park University and previously served as the Philadelphia Ambassador for the Dramatists Guild. As a comic book writer, Dave co-created the ongoing series DASH and has contributed to several acclaimed anthologies, including the GLAAD Media Award-winning Young Men in Love Vol. 1. His graphic novel Tommy Dakota and the Shootout at the Burgundy Ten received Kickstarter’s “Projects We Love” recognition. Dave adapted DASH into an audio drama, now in its second season, created with longtime collaborator Mick Loro under their creative banner, Lightbooth Blackout. Together, they also develop original audio dramas and theater. Dave teaches Theater and English at several Philadelphia-area universities and colleges.
