    CASA of West Central Illinois — Putts 'N' Pubs and the children who need your help

    Kelly Price, executive director, and Pam Perkins, board president of CASA of West Central Illinois, joined Galesburg's Morning News on Thursday, June 11, 2026, to preview Putts 'N' Pubs and talk about the organization's work on behalf of foster children across five counties. Putts 'N' Pubs is Saturday, July 11 — check-in at 2 p.m. at Reserve Artisan Ales, 185 S. Kellogg St. Event runs 3–7 p.m. Tickets are $30 per person, teams of four. Kelly and Pam walk through how the pub golf event works, what CASA volunteers actually do for children in foster care, and why the need is greater than most people realize — there are more than 400 children in foster care across CASA's five-county service area, and the organization is currently serving 127 of them.     Knox County Miss Juneteenth Pageant — empowering young women through history and leadership

    Pam Davidson, organizer of the second annual Knox County Miss Juneteenth Pageant, joined Galesburg's Morning News on Wednesday, June 10 to preview the event ahead of Saturday's pageant at the Knox College Center for Fine Arts. The pageant is Saturday, June 13. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. and the program begins at 5. Free to attend. Donations are welcome. Davidson talks about the history of Juneteenth, how the pageant came together, what the 12 contestants go through in the weeks of preparation, and what she hopes the community takes away from the experience. She also shares a moving story from last year's Junior Miss winner that captures exactly what the pageant is trying to do.     Juneteenth Soul Food Celebration this Saturday in Galesburg

    Wendel Hunigan and Semenya McCord joined Galesburg's Morning News on Tuesday, June 9, to preview the Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church Juneteenth Soul Food Celebration. The event is Saturday, June 13, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Allen Chapel, 153 E. Tompkins St. in Galesburg. Free-will donations are appreciated. All ages and all backgrounds are welcome. Hunigan talks about the history of Juneteenth, the campaign by Opal Lee that led to it becoming the 11th federal holiday in 2021, and what the holiday means to him personally. McCord shares the story of Susan Richardson — an escaped formerly enslaved woman who was instrumental in founding Allen Chapel in 1853, the oldest African American church in Knox County. The event features soul food, guided church tours led by Pastor James A. Hailey III, historic memorabilia on display, and giveaways. The celebration is sponsored by CBI Bank & Trust. "This is not a Black holiday. This is an American holiday," Hunigan said. "Anybody who wants to come and understand the history of Galesburg, we'd love to see you there."     Galesburg Police — Special Olympics Torch Run comes to Galesburg this week

    Chief Kevin Legate, Officer Jake Taylor, and Officer Mike Ingles from the Galesburg Police Department joined Galesburg's Morning News on Monday, June 8, to preview a big week for Special Olympics in Galesburg. Wednesday, June 10 — McDonald's fundraiser on North Henderson Street, 10 a.m.–2 p.m. The Special Olympics torch arrives from the Quad Cities around noon at North Lake Storey Road and North Henderson Street, and officers will run it into McDonald's on North Henderson Street. The GHS Football team is volunteering at the fundraiser. All area law enforcement agencies are invited. Thursday, June 11 — The torch run begins at the Public Safety Building, 150 S. Broad St., at 7:30 a.m., with an 8 a.m. start. The route runs north on Cedar to Main Street, east on Main to Grand Avenue, and out to the Highway 97 and 150 intersection near Knoxville. Anyone is welcome to run along. The officers talk about what it was like to work the Galesburg High School Spring Games, the moment Officer Taylor told Chief Legate "we have to get this back," and what it means to watch Special Olympics athletes compete. The Summer Games run June 12–14 in Bloomington, with 3,500 athletes competing. Galesburg officers will run the torch into the stadium to light the central flame and open the games.     Galesburg Post 285 — expanding to two Legion baseball teams in 2026

    Jeremy Kleine and Andrew Thomas, coaches of the Galesburg Post 285 American Legion Baseball Junior and Senior Legion teams, joined Galesburg's Morning News on Friday, June 5, 2026. Post 285 is fielding two teams for the first time this summer. Kleine heads the new Junior Legion squad, which opens Saturday, June 6 with a 1 p.m. doubleheader at East Moline. Thomas returns to lead the Senior Legion, which opens Tuesday, June 9 with a game a 5:30 p.m. game at Moline, with the first home game at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, June 11 against Rock Island at Jimmy Isaacson Field at H.T. Custer Park. The coaches talk about what drove the expansion, the coaching staffs and rosters, the Jimmy Ball philosophy, field improvements at Jimmy Isaacson Field, and what both teams have on tap for the summer — including trips to Omaha and Minneapolis for the Senior Legion and hosting duties for the Junior Legion division tournament.     The Toy Scout - vintage toys, collectibles, and what might be hiding in your attic

The Toy Scout is at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites, 2160 E. Main St., this Saturday and Sunday, buying vintage toys and collectibles on the spot. Admission and parking are free. Schriefer talks about what they're looking for — Star Wars, G.I. Joe, Transformers, Hot Wheels, comic books, old coins, sports cards, metal lunch boxes, and much more from the mid-1980s and older.
