Learn Egyptian Arabic with Eslam Badawy

I booked a week-long trip to Egypt and was looking for a way to learn some basic conversational material. This podcast was exactly what I was looking for! The beginner sessions set me up for a successful week as no one was expecting me to know any Arabic at all, let alone being able to have a basic conversation with locals. Thanks to this pod, I have new friends and invites to return. Alf shokr!

I just started listening and have already subscribed! I listened to the episode where Andy recounts his bike journey through Upper Egypt; it was hilarious and smart and taught me sayings and vocab I need as an Egyptian who grew up in the U.S. with no community and decent listening skills but a lot of gaps in them. It also makes me more confident to try to learn my own language when I see how passionate Andy was speaking Arabic, and reminded me that there are things to be proud of about Egypt and my people. I also want to add that I grew up in the 80s and access to stuff like this was so limited. It feels like such a blessing to come across conversations like this that surely will help me improve my Masry. Thank you, Eslam, for this awesome show—looking forward to more episodes.

I’m really glad I found this podcast. I was born in Egypt but I married an American and hardly speak Arabic anymore. Listening to this is helping me remember some phrases and will hopefully give me the confidence to speak it again. I like how there are different kinds of episodes (conversational, story telling, game show style, etc.) I can’t wait to hear more!
