As co-founder and former Executive Director of Iranti, he built a globally-recognized organization focused on trans, lesbian, and intersex rights using media and strategic advocacy. His work has shaped policy, resourced grassroots movements and influenced national and international frameworks. In this episode we talk about becoming and connection, photographs, refuge in place and community and making queer utopia in the present without fences. Land matters in so many ways. Her scholarship has had a immense impact on queer activists and scholars in South Africa and beyond - including, for instance, her book Black lesbian sexualities and identity in South Africa: An ethnography of black lesbian urban life and as collaborative editor and author in impactful queer anthologies such as “Reclaiming Afrikan Queer Perspectives on Sexual and Gender Identities” , “Queer in Africa: LGBTQI Identities, Citizenship, and Activism” and Beyond the Mountain: Queer life in Africa's Gay Capital.
