Two Sides to the Game: Fierce Competitor. Chill Soul. | Jaylyn Sherrod

What happens when the underdog becomes a champion… but still keeps the same hunger? In this episode, we sit down with Jaylyn Sherrod—Birmingham native, WNBA champion, and one of the toughest guards in women’s basketball. From being overlooked coming out of high school… to becoming the heartbeat of Colorado basketball… to going undrafted and still fighting her way onto a championship roster… Jaylyn’s story is bigger than basketball. Known for her relentless defense, leadership, toughness, and energy, she built her career on grit, discipline, and refusing to let circumstances define her. Now with the Minnesota Lynx after winning a WNBA championship with the New York Liberty, Jaylyn continues to prove that hard work travels wherever you go. But what makes her story different isn’t just the accolades—it’s the mindset. A student-athlete who earned multiple degrees while competing at the highest level, Jaylyn represents what it looks like to stay grounded, stay hungry, and stay committed to growth long after the spotlight arrives. Her journey is proof that: 👉 Being overlooked doesn’t mean you’re unqualified 👉 Toughness is built in the unseen seasons 👉 And consistency will take you places talent alone can’t “People can doubt your size, your path, or your story… but they can’t deny your work.” If you’ve ever had to earn everything the hard way… this episode is for you.

Overtime: Touchdown: Deal With What Happened.

Touchdown: Deal With What Happened. Sometimes life doesn’t just knock you down — it rewrites the whole playbook. Injured. Doubt creeping in. Scholarship questioned. Girlfriend facing a 50/50 diagnosis. Dreams hanging by a thread. I couldn’t control what happened. But I could control how I responded. While others said, “It is what it is,” I chose grit. Rehab at 2:00AM. Calf raises in the shower. Quads flexing in class. Holding it together for the people who needed me — even when I was falling apart inside. Here’s what I learned: Life comes down to two teams — The one trying to score… And the one deciding how to respond after being scored on. Transitions don’t ask for permission. Injury. Loss. Rejection. Diagnosis. They just show up. The question isn’t “Why did this happen?” The question is “What are you going to do now?” Great teams don’t get too high on wins or too low on losses. They execute the next play. I had to realize: My value wasn’t tied to a scholarship. My identity wasn’t tied to a position. And my future wasn’t canceled because my plan was. No matter how hard life hits, you must keep fighting. Every bad day is one step closer to something greater — if you refuse to stay down. 🏁 Deal with what happened. Then run the next play. 📖 Get the book here: https://bit.ly/OvetimeBookEJKenty #Overtime #Hard4 #DealWithWhatHappened #Grit #AthleteMindset #LifeAfterSports #KeepGoing
