    195. Tangazo!: A black response to the killing of Charlie Kirk

Tangazo Episode 195, was an excellent intergenerational discussion, originally planned as an African American community response to the death of right wing political activist and media personality Charles Kirk, cofounder of Turning Point, a conservative youth group, closely aligned with MAGA. ----- Tangazo Commentator Tim Person, does an excellent job as host for this multi dimensional, inter generational discussion, with Yusef Scoggin,CEO of Delmar Divine. ---- Tangazo Commentators Social Justice Activist, Reverend Darryl Gregory Gray and Political historian and Senior Editorial Columnist, St. Louis American Newspaper, Michael Wesley Jones.  President Trump ordered flags to be flown at half staff following Kirk's death, an honor that wasn't afforded former President Jimmy Carter, winner of a Nobel Peace Prize. ---- Efforts were then made to stifle any negative comments regarding Charles Kirk," Cancel Culture", including the termination of late night talk host Jimmy Kimmel, for unflattering comments regarding the death of Charles Kirk. Several Airlines pilots and numerous private citizens were terminated and are suspended from their jobs for celebrating the death of Mr. Kirk, are posting negative comments on social media regarding the life and legacy of Charles Kirk. This is something that we as Americans, have never experienced, based on the US Constitution's first amendment, which guarantees Freedom of speech, which is the foundation of the American Democracy. ----- Mr. Kirk was shot and killed September 10th, 2025 while speaking at Utah Valley University, leaving a wife and two children. --- The name Charles Kirk, didn't resonate with the vast majority in the black community, those who were familiar with him, rightly considered him racist, homophobic and xenophobic, based on numerous pronouncements made by Mr. Kirk, against black people, black women, immigrants and transgender people. Expecting anything else from black leadership and the black community, beyond perfunctory condolences,to his widow and family, was absurd to say the least. ----- Tangazo Episode 195, is a compelling thoughtful conversation, that touches upon the plight of African Americans, witnessing the destruction of the American Democracy, also expressing our collective thoughts, on the killing of Charles Kirk and its aftermath. -----

185: Tangazo!: Spirited discussion on the lack of black leadership in St. Louis City's government. Led by Tangazo Host Hank Thompson, Tim Person Social Justice activists Reverend Darryl Gregory Gray and Attorney Jerryl Christmas.

Tangazo Episode 185 was literally , the quite before the storm, as we resumed the Tangazo podcast, on this past Friday May 16th,at Delmar Divine. ----   We opened by paying tribute to our late friend and frequent Tangazo Commentator Linda Lockhart, formerly of the StLouis Post Dispatch, St. Louis Public Radio and St. Louis American American Newspaper. Linda was an award winning journalist and a cofounder of the GSLABJ, also she was a friend, who will be missed. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Linda's, family and many friends. ------    Tangazo also paid tribute to the late former St. Louis Alderman, Freeman Bosley Sr.. Tangazo cohost Tim Person, had texted me about his passing, earlier Friday morning. Tim speaks passionately, about his longtime friendship with Freeman Sr. and his close relationship with the Bosley family. ------   We all agreed, Alderman Freeman Bosley was a gifted politician, who served his 3rd Ward with dedication, integrity and a passion recognized by his constituents. Sr. served close to 35 years on the St. Louis Board of Aldermen, his son Brandon Bosley, was elected to represent the 3rd ward, when Sr., retired from public office. -------    His daughter Lakeysha Frazier Bosley, serves in the Mo. State Legislature. Bosley Sr., was also father of St.Louis's first African American Mayor, Freeman Bosley Jr.  That was the end of the"quiet,"that was followed 40 minutes of a raucous discussion involving the the total eclipse of black political leadership in  St.Louis city government. Where does the blame lie,for the loss of black political leadership, that resulted from Mayor Tishaura Jones's disastrous campaign for reelection, losing by some 67%, to now mayor Cara Spencer.  Most people agree Jones's  defeat, sank incumbent St. Louis Comptroller Darlene Green's,chances for reelection, she lost by 4 percentage point. There was also disagreement again,"vigorously," on what we should expect from, newly elected StLouis Mayor, Cara Spencer  Of course, none of us knew during our spirited political discussion, about the devastation and destruction that would follow later that evening,as a tornado struck St. Louis city, resulting in nine deaths, injuries, power outages for thousands and homes destroyed in the central corridor and north St. Louis. --------   Our hearts and our prayers go out to the families of the deceased  and to all the victims of the horrific weather tragedy, that struck StLouis last Friday, May 16th. ----    Tangazo, episode 185, wishes to thank Yusef Scoggin and his staff for welcoming the Tangazo podcast and crew to Delmar Divine. -----
