Halloween: What Are We Really Celebrating?

Should Christians celebrate Halloween? Where did its traditions begin, and how do we separate history, folklore and biblical truth? In Part 1 of “Halloween: What Are We Really Celebrating?” Jade and Courtney welcome Lyndsie Camper and Melissa Reynolds back to the podcast for an honest conversation about the origins of Halloween, Samhain and how Christians approach this season. Melissa shares perspective from her involvement in witchcraft before becoming a Christian, bringing a personal dimension to questions about spiritual practices and discernment. Together, we explore Halloween traditions, their historical roots and how they developed into the holiday we recognize today. What do we actually know about these customs, and what have we accepted without examining it? We also discuss personal convictions and how to treat fellow believers who reach different conclusions about Halloween. Can we stand firm in our faith while listening, learning and extending grace? Whether you participate in Halloween, avoid it or are still working through your convictions, we invite you to join the conversation with an open Bible and a willingness to learn. Subscribe to The Beauty in Burnt Toast so you don’t miss Part 2, and share this episode with someone who would appreciate a thoughtful conversation about Halloween and Christianity. What If We’ve Made Christianity Too Comfortable? | The Parts of the Bible We Don't Talk About

Have we made Christianity so comfortable that we've become afraid to talk about the supernatural parts of our own faith? We believe in a supernatural God, but why do conversations about angels, demons, spiritual warfare, dreams, visions, and the unseen world sometimes make even Christians uncomfortable? In this episode of The Beauty in Burnt Toast, Jade and Courtney are diving into some of the most fascinating and often overlooked passages of Scripture. We're talking about strange heavenly creatures, dragons, Leviathan, Behemoth, the mysterious Nephilim, and even a talking donkey. Yes, all of that is in the Bible! But this conversation goes much deeper than unusual biblical stories. Have we become so afraid of looking weird that we've stopped asking questions? Are we ignoring spiritual realities because we can't explain them? And how do we remain open to what Scripture teaches without becoming consumed by fear, speculation, or fascination with the supernatural? We're talking about the difference between discernment and dismissal, why testing everything against Scripture matters, and what it means to be spiritually aware while keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus. We're not encouraging you to chase the supernatural. We're challenging you not to ignore the parts of Scripture that make you uncomfortable. Because maybe Christianity was never meant to fit neatly inside everything we can understand. Let's Connect! Is It God, Your Mind… or Something Else? | Dreams, Visions & Discernment

Nobody talks about dreams that feel too specific to ignore. Nobody talks about visions, prophetic gifting, or what it’s like to experience something spiritual that you can’t easily explain. So we’re talking about it. In this episode, Jade and Courtney sit down with mother-daughter duo Brandy and Lexie for an honest conversation about dreams, visions, the prophetic, and biblical discernment. They share how each of them experiences these gifts differently, how they determine whether something is simply a dream or imagination versus something they believe may be from the Lord, and what it looks like to grow in spiritual gifting with humility and maturity. We also talk about the questions that don’t always get asked: What happens when you get it wrong? Are you supposed to share every dream or vision? What about déjà vu? How do you test what you’re experiencing against Scripture? And how can an interest in the supernatural become dangerous when Jesus and the Word are no longer at the center? This isn’t about chasing signs, experiences, or sensational stories. It’s about learning to discern, staying rooted in Scripture, and remembering that the gift should always point us back to the Giver. “Do not despise prophecies, but test everything; hold fast what is good.”  1 Thessalonians 5:20–21 If you’ve ever experienced something you couldn’t explain, wondered whether God still speaks through dreams and visions, or simply wanted to understand the prophetic from a biblical perspective, this conversation is for you. Build the Table, Not the Platform

This one is for the woman who is tired. Tired of carrying everything. Tired of being needed. Tired of trying to get it right. Tired of looking around and believing everyone else somehow has life figured out while you’re barely keeping all the pieces together. Somewhere along the way, so many of us learned to walk into a room with our walls up and our “I’m fine” ready. We’ve gotten really good at showing people the polished version while quietly carrying things we were never meant to carry alone. But what if there was a place where you didn’t have to perform? In this episode, we’re talking about Selah, a quarterly women’s gathering created to give women a place to pause, connect, worship, hear real stories, and simply be still in the presence of God. Through Selah, we’ve learned just how hungry women are for real connection. We want somewhere we can let the walls down. Somewhere we can laugh, cry, worship, be honest about what we’re walking through, and realize we aren’t the only ones who don’t have it all together. Because sometimes you don’t need someone to fix you. You don’t need another thing added to your calendar. You don’t need to try harder. Sometimes you just need somewhere safe enough to exhale. A place to fall apart if you need to. A place to be still. A place to belong. A place where perfection isn’t required and Jesus is at the center of it all. That is the heart behind Selah. And if you’re local to North Alabama, we would love for you to experience it with us. Our next Selah gathering is November 14, and there is a seat for you. Come tired. Come unsure. Come exactly as you are. You don’t have to clean yourself up before you come to the table. Are We Trusting AI Too Much? | Faith, ChatGPT & Discernment

AI is quickly becoming part of everyday life. We use it to research, write, brainstorm, solve problems, and answer questions in seconds. But as Christians, there’s a bigger question we need to be asking. Are we simply using AI as a tool, or are we beginning to trust it with things we shouldn’t? In this episode of The Beauty in Burnt Toast, Jade and Courtney have an honest conversation about AI, faith, ChatGPT, and spiritual discernment. We talk about where artificial intelligence can be genuinely helpful, where we need to be cautious, and what should never be outsourced to technology, including prayer, Scripture, critical thinking, wise counsel, and our dependence on the Holy Spirit. Instead of only talking about AI, we bring ChatGPT into the conversation. We ask it some pretty big questions. Can AI tell us what God wants us to do? Can the way we phrase a question influence the answer we get? Should Christians use AI to interpret dreams or prophetic words? Should our children trust AI? And if AI can write a biblically accurate sermon, why does a pastor still need to seek God before preaching? We also look at research surrounding AI and critical thinking and ask what it could mean for a generation becoming accustomed to instant answers. Just because something gives us an answer faster doesn’t mean it deserves a louder voice. And one important clarification before somebody comes for us in the comments 😂 Throughout the episode, you’ll hear us call ChatGPT “Chad the Robot.” We know ChatGPT is AI and not, in fact, a literal robot. Chad is simply what we’ve named him around here. AI can be an incredible tool. But a tool isn’t an authority. So how do we use it wisely without allowing it to replace the things that require human wisdom, spiritual discernment, and a relationship with God? When Loving People Gets Complicated

Jesus calls us to love people, but what does that look like when relationships get messy, complicated, or simply don’t turn out the way we hoped? In this episode of The Beauty in Burnt Toast, Jade and Courtney talk honestly about navigating difficult relationships through a biblical lens. What’s the difference between peacemaking and simply keeping the peace? Can you love someone and still need space? And how do we know when God is asking us to lean into a relationship, create some distance, or simply release the outcome to Him? We look at the story of Abram and Lot in Genesis 13 and what it can teach us about choosing peace over proving a point, knowing when a relationship may need to look different, and recognizing that distance doesn’t always mean the absence of love. We also talk about taking responsibility for our own part, extending grace without ignoring unhealthy patterns, knowing when a relationship is worth fighting for, and learning when it may be time to stop trying to control the outcome and trust God with what remains unresolved. Sometimes love requires a hard conversation. Sometimes it requires humility. Sometimes it requires space. And sometimes it means asking, “Jesus, show me how You want me to love this person.” Connect with The Beauty in Burnt Toast Facebook: The Beauty in Burnt Toast  Instagram: @thebeautyinburnttoast  TikTok: @thebeautyinburnttoast Talking with purpose.
