THE FIRST NOTE BACK My End-of-Summer Return to the Stage

Hey! I'd love to hear your thoughts, send me a voice note. Season 2:Episode 10 THE FIRST NOTE BACK My End-of-Summer Return to the Stage Welcome back to Habaka’s Honeycomb Hideout! I’m Habaka KFJ—bestselling author, Blues, Jazz and Gospel Classic vocalist, radio host, and storyteller. You’re in a place where music, stories, books, community, and local adventures all come together. So go and grab your favorite beverage, sit back, relax, and find the room that’s right for you. Well, my Honey Bees, Vacation Habaka has officially left the building! 😂 And after taking a two-month vacation for the first time in a very long time, I returned to the stage. I did not perform at all during those two months. And I’m going to be completely honest with you: at first, I felt some kind of way about it. When you are an entertainer, an artist, and a working professional, stepping away from the performing arena can make you a little fearful. You start wondering: Will people forget about me? Will they think I’m no longer performing? Why isn’t my phone ringing? Will I still have a place when I return? All kinds of questions can begin running through your mind. But one of the most important things I learned during my vacation was that you must listen to that small voice that has been dropped into your spirit. You must trust that the decision you are making is the right decision for you—even when other people may not understand it. Because at the end of the day, you are the person who pays the highest price when you refuse to listen to yourself. I knew that I needed to stop. I needed to rest from the hustle and bustle. I needed to step away from performing, step away from the constant demands of social media, and simply spend some time being with myself. And I really did rest. That is probably the funniest part of this entire story! 😂 Although a tremendous number of ideas and opportunities developed during my vacation, I was not sitting at home hustling and trying to make things happen. I was resting, cooking, enjoying my home, spending time with myself, and allowing my mind to become quiet. I learned that I didn’t have to be constantly visible in order to remain valuable. But then the vacation began coming to an end—and it was time to return to the stage. I was completely honored to be invited to perform at the Las Vegas Blues Society’s Pre-Bender Party at the Westgate Resort and Casino, inside the beautiful Cabaret Room. You also have to protect your health. I have a history with asthma, so I never know when something might flare up. I must do everything I can to keep my body healthy, my voice in top condition, and my mind focused. And wouldn’t you know it—I woke up on the day of the show with a slightly sore throat!
