The Nazi UFO Legends: Did Secret Weapons Research Inspire Flying Saucer Myths?

In April 1948, Air Materiel Command intelligence chief H. M. McCoy submitted a Project SIGN progress report covering the first hundred collected flying-disc incidents. Its case material included photographs, analysis, and technical references on unusual aircraft configurations—including a Horten glider reference. That document sits at the intersection of two histories often fused together: the documented record of German experimental aviation during World War II, and the postwar legend that Nazi Germany built flying saucers. This episode follows Kenneth Arnold’s June 1947 report near Mount Rainier, the launch of Project SIGN, the fatal Mantell pursuit, the real Horten flying-wing program, and the postwar press and publishing trail that attached names such as Rudolf Schriever and Giuseppe Belluzzo to alleged disc-shaped craft. The surviving record shows that U.S. investigators considered German weapons research while assessing unidentified reports, and that an advanced German flying-wing prototype survives in Smithsonian custody. It also leaves open narrower archival questions about incomplete wartime records, postwar testimony, and the original sources behind the German flying-disc stories. Project Looking Glass: Did the Government Build a Machine That Could See the Future?

Project Looking Glass has two sharply different public histories. The first began on February 3, 1961, when Strategic Air Command began continuous airborne alert with a modified C-135 command post. The mission was called Looking Glass because it mirrored the functions of an underground command center, preserving nuclear command and communications if ground facilities were destroyed, isolated, or unable to function. The second history emerged through S-4 testimony, later interviews, online archives, and a 2024 congressional submission. Bob Lazar later described a project called Looking Glass in connection with time-related effects. Dan Burisch described a far broader technology involving stargates, branching timelines, and a convergence associated with 2012. This episode follows the dated mission history, interview transcripts, archived publications, and hearing record behind a name that moved from Cold War command continuity into modern UFO lore. What did the documented Looking Glass mission do? When did the codename become attached to temporal-technology stories? And what would it take to establish a connection between them? The investigation begins with an aircraft built to keep command alive during catastrophe and ends with an unresolved question of provenance. This podcast uses artificial intelligence in its research, writing, production, and narration. Nostradamus: Did Any of His Predictions Actually Describe the Future?

On June 30, 1559, King Henry II of France entered a ceremonial joust in Paris and insisted on one more pass against Gabriel de Lorges, Count of Montgomery. Montgomery’s lance shattered against the king’s helmet. Fragments passed through Henry’s visor and struck his head near the eye. He survived for ten days, then died in agony. Four years earlier, Michel de Nostredame—known to history as Nostradamus—had published a quatrain describing a young lion overcoming an older one in single combat, with eyes pierced inside a golden cage. The verse is authentic. It existed before Henry’s accident. And its resemblance to the king’s death became the foundation of Nostradamus’s reputation as a man who saw centuries ahead. But this episode follows the documents behind the legend: the university register that complicates Nostradamus’s medical biography, the almanacs that made him famous, the 1555 printing of Les Prophéties, his visit to the French royal court, and the later readers who turned cryptic poems into forecasts of London’s Great Fire, Napoleon, Hitler, world war, and modern catastrophe. The investigation also follows a rare prediction tied to July 1999, when a specific date arrived without an agreed fulfillment, and the false September 11 quotation that spread worldwide despite never appearing in Nostradamus’s work. The question is not whether history can be made to resemble an old poem after disaster strikes. The question is whether any surviving verse identified a future event clearly enough before it occurred to count as genuine prediction. This podcast uses artificial intelligence in its research, writing, production, and narration.
