In March 2025, the FIFDH hosted for the first time a therapeutic workshop in Geneva, led by mental health professionals from different backgrounds, from both side of a conflict. Aware of the psychological toll of long-standing tensions and collective trauma, the FIFDH invited participants to share their experiences and open a space for listening, reflection, and emotional repair. In the Space Between is a series of intimate conversations with individuals who took part in that workshop. Each episode offers a quiet window into one life, one story of navigating inner tension and personal change.

    In The Space Between – Introduction

    This is In the Space Between, a series of conversations produced by the FIFDH, International Film Festival and Forum on Human Rights in Geneva. In March 2025, the Festival hosted for the first time a workshop led by mental health professionals from both sides of a long-lasting divide, the Israeli - Palestinian conflict. Every year, the Festival gives a prominent space to this conflict, denouncing the illegal occupation, the state of apartheid and the international paralysis that couldn’t prevent, nor stop, the ongoing genocide in Gaza. Thisspecific event was different from the others, with this workshop, we wanted to take a step on the side, move away from the political chaos and allow some space for healing. Conscious of the conflict's psychological toll and collective trauma, the FIFDH invited mental health professionals from Israel and Palestine to lead an EMDR workshop, sharing their experiences to foster listening, reflection, and emotionalhealing. The result is In the Space Between, a series of intimate conversations with individuals who took part in that workshop. Each episode offers a quiet window into one life — one story of navigating inner conflict, personal transformation, and the messy beauty of human complexity. This podcast is about people. We hope it will bring a small contribution to the field of those who are still trying to build peace, in a region that has been experiencing the horrors of war and injustice for too long.     In the Space Between – Pierre

    Pierre is a journalist, a mediator, and an expert in transitional justice. He has spent decades working in some of the most difficult places in the world, Rwanda, the Balkans, the sale and beyond, helping societies confront violence and find path. Towards reconciliation. He's also the person who initiated the workshop that inspired this podcast. At the FIFDH, Pierre brought together Israeli and Palestinian psychologists for an intimate, emotionally charged dialogue on trauma and healing.     Tuly Flint is one of the psychologists who facilitated the workshop in Geneva. He has walked through more than one kind of battlefields, physical, psychological, and moral, an Israeli therapist, a former officer, a peace activist, and perhaps most importantly, a listener. His story invites us to pause in the space between trauma and transformation and to listen.     In this episode, we meet Ahmad, a Palestinian psychologist based in East Jerusalem. He is one of the therapists who led the EMDR Trauma Healing Workshop during the Festival in March 2025. Ahmad is a member of EMDR for peace, a network that brings together Palestinian and Israeli professionals working across borders to heal trauma and to hold space for stories that are often silenced. His journey is not just professional, it's deeply personal.
