Episode 22: Good Stab, Bad Sever

In this episode of Bad Ass Bookclub Podcast, the ladies are knee-deep in haunted attics and blood-soaked prairies. With the final half of Grady Hendrix’s How to Sell a Haunted House, Ashley and Katie laugh, cringe, and gasp their way through puppets, grief, and Hendrix’s signature blend of horror and hilarity. Funny, gruesome, and, yes downright sad, this conclusion had the gals reaching for a tissue. And because no spooky-season episode is complete without some chaos, the ladies play a brand-new game: Weapon of Choice. In classic horror story scenarios, Katie quizzes Ashley on what she’d grab when things go bump in the night. Some answers are more practical (and hilarious) than others. Then it’s back to the plains with the middle third of Stephen Graham Jones’ The Buffalo Hunter Hunter, where tragedy and resilience collide. The slaughter of the buffalo cuts deep, and we discuss Good Stab’s complicated role as both hero and demon, depending on who’s telling the story. Sad, thought-provoking, and impossible to look away from. Whether you’re here for haunted house hijinks, Indigenous horror, or just to find out what on earth Ashley would do with a curtain rod, this episode is packed with thrills, chills, and book-loving banter. Strap in, Baddies! It’s about to get choppy. *Don't forget to follow us on Instagram ‪@BadAssBookclubPodcast‬. Listen and Review on Spotify & Apple Podcasts! Like and Subscribe on YouTube! Episode 21: House Hunters with Pupkin and Cat Man

In this episode of Bad Ass Bookclub Podcast, we’re off to a hauntingly good start to Spooky Season! This week the ladies tackle their double shared reads: The Buffalo Hunter Hunter by Stephen Graham Jones and How to Sell a Haunted House by Grady Hendrix. First up is the historical fiction horror pick, The Buffalo Hunter Hunter. The ladies are enjoying the gruesome, genre-crossing ride that intertwines vampire lore with the U.S. western expansionist era. While discussing themes and characters present in chapters 1-9, Katie and Ashley highlight the way Jones layers timelines and perspectives, and the captivating use of Native American terminology to deepen the novel’s cultural roots. With two-thirds of the story still to go, many questions remain, like: Where’s Cat Man? Then it’s on to Hendrix’s How to Sell a Haunted House, where playthings and family drama collide. Covering chapters 1–20, the ladies dive into the Joyner family’s grief, the hilariously horrifying antics of Pupkin the puppet, and swap their favorite WTF worthy Grady moments. To top it off, they play a quick round of Stage Fright, a hilarious game featuring the five stages of grief. You read that right.  Whether you prefer historical horror with bite or a campy haunt, this episode delivers both chills and chuckles. Cozy up, press play, and join the hunt!
