    Why Would a Veteran Take the U.S. Army to Court? with Carl Wheless | EP 42 | Pathfinders Podcast

    Carl Wheless is a United States Marine Corps veteran and a decorated Iraq War combat veteran who answered his country's call on multiple occasions. After serving in the Marines from 1983 to 1993, he returned to military service following the attacks of 9/11, deploying twice to Iraq, first with the Texas Army National Guard and later with the United States Army during the Battle of Ramadi, one of the most intense battles of the Iraq War. An M1A1 Abrams tanker, Wheless served on the front lines in his forties, leading alongside soldiers nearly half his age. His military service left him with lasting physical injuries, and he was later recognized as a 100% Permanent and Total disabled combat veteran. What followed was a battle unlike any he had faced overseas. After his disability retirement was mishandled, Wheless spent more than twelve years challenging the United States Army through the legal system. His perseverance initially led to a federal court ruling in his favor, affirming his long standing claims. However, that victory proved to be short lived. The decision is now being challenged, and despite years of litigation, he continues to face bureaucratic delays, administrative obstacles, and institutional resistance. Undeterred, he remains committed to pursuing every legal avenue available to ensure the promises made to him are honored and that he receives the benefits and recognition he earned through his service. Today, Carl is an advocate for veterans' rights, accountability, and fairness. He has also become a respected voice on issues of public service, patriotism, and standing against prejudice. His story is one of courage, not only on the battlefield, but also in the ongoing pursuit of justice long after the uniform came off.
