The BAD Mom Show

Theresa Todd

Welcome to the BAD MOM Show, where we flip the script on shame and reclaim the stories that moms tell themselves: “I’m too much,” “I’m not enough,” or “I’m just plain bad.” Around here, BAD stands for Blessed, Already approved of, and Divinely designed — to lead your family as the heart of your home. And if that doesn’t sound like you yet, don’t worry. It will. This show is for the moms who feel stuck in the past, overwhelmed by the present, and deep down fear they’re ‘messing it up. It’s for the ones carrying stories they’ve been too ashamed to tell — the fiery, sensitive, strong, loud, emotionally messy, misunderstood woman ready to stop hiding and start healing. Because here’s the truth: God chose you to for your family on purpose. He’s given YOU the authority to lead them boldly. You were divinely designed for this mantle of leadership, to set the tone as the heart of your home. Through raw conversations, real-life stories, biblical truth, and bold encouragement, you’ll be reminded: You are not a failure. You are not the problem. You are not too far gone. And you are absolutely not a bad mom. It’s time to bring shame into the light, reclaim your story, and walk in the freedom that’s already yours. Because mama — your family needs your kind of bold. You’re in the right place. Let’s get started.

Episode 42: What To Do After You’ve Yelled (Without Shame Spiralling)

That moment after you yell can feel unbearable. The guilt hits fast, the shame gets loud, and suddenly you’re questioning everything about yourself as a mom. But what if the real damage isn’t the mistake… it’s staying stuck in condemnation afterward?    In this episode, I’m talking honestly about what to do after the blow up. Not with perfection, pretending, or pushing it under the rug — but with healing, repairing, and real connection. We’re diving into why shame keeps so many moms trapped in cycles of mom anger and triggered reactions, and how repair can actually strengthen trust with your children instead of destroy it.   I share practical ways to regulate after hard moments, how to apologize without over-explaining or blaming, and why forgiveness matters so much in breaking generational cycles. This episode is a reminder that healing in motherhood isn’t about never messing up — it’s about learning how to come back together afterward.   In this episode, we talk about: ✨ What shame and condemnation are secretly keeping you stuck in ✨ Why repairing after conflict matters more than getting it perfect ✨ How to reconnect with your child after a triggered parenting moment   You are not failing because you had a hard moment. You’re growing, learning, and leading differently than before.   If this episode helped you, do me a favor and share it with a friend who needs to step out of her shame and see a way forward. Also, make sure you’re subscribed to the show because we’re building real tools here — not just awareness, but actual change.   You’re not a bad mom. You’re a mom learning how to repair instead of repeat. And that matters way more than getting it right every time. 💛   Connect with me: Instagram: @thetheresatodd Facebook: @thetheresatodd Website: www.thetheresatodd.com

Episode 41: What to Do When You’re Triggered (So You Can Stop Yelling)

Ever feel like you go from calm… to completely dysregulated in seconds—and then spend the rest of the day drowning in guilt afterward?   In this episode, I’m talking honestly about what’s actually happening in your brain and body when you get triggered as a mom. Because the truth is, your reactions aren’t random, and they don’t make you a bad mother.    We dive into the survival brain, nervous system responses, fight/flight/freeze patterns, and why it can feel nearly impossible to stay calm when your child pushes a button you didn’t even realize was there. I’m also sharing practical ways to regulate your body in the moment, slow down the cycle of yelling, and respond with more intention instead of shame.   This conversation is for the mom who’s exhausted from overreacting, replaying the guilt, and wondering why change feels so hard.   In this episode, we talk about: ✨ What your triggers are really trying to tell you ✨ Why your nervous system takes over before logic can kick in ✨ Simple ways to regulate before reacting in the heat of the moment   Healing doesn’t happen through perfection. It happens through awareness, honesty, and grace. If this episode resonated, would you do me a favor? Share this one with a friend who needs to know she’s not alone and not bad for getting triggered. And as always, be sure you’re subscribed to The BAD Mom Show so you don’t miss a thing! Episode 40: Maycember Meltdown? How Moms Can Stay Calm During the Chaos

Ladies, I know you feel it- the May-hem of May! There is more than humanly possible packed into each week before school ends: teacher appreciation, field day, field trips, graduations, celebrations, and let's not even start on all the after school extracurricular activities...   So if between running from one event to the next you feel like you're going to lose it, wondering how on earth it's all going to get done...this episode is for you!   In this episode, I’m talking about what I’ve lovingly dubbed 'Hell Week' for moms. It's from greek life rush and that week before initiation when guys would undergo some not-so-pleasant experiences before being made a 'brother.' Do you remember that? I couldn't help but feel like I was going through my own version of hell week as I vented to a friend. It's easy to slip straight into survival mode during this busy season because- well- you simply are overloaded   And since we can't tap out and tell someone else to takeover Maycember, I wanted to give you some practical tips on how you can survive the overwhelm, mental overload, and exhaustion without losing your cool. These are things that are helping me stay grounded in the middle of the chaos.   In this episode, we talk about: ✨ Why your inner dialogue matters more than you think ✨ Simple ways to reduce stress and regulate your nervous system ✨ Practical tips to stay organized and relieve mental stress so you don't burn out   You are not failing because this season feels hard and you are NOT ALONE in feeling the pressure. It's real and you’re human. So grab your coffee or running shoes and let's have a chat. I hope by the end you feel seen, had a laugh or two, and gain some actionable steps to implement today. I'd love to hear what you think!   If this message resonates, would you do me a favor? Share it with a friend who needs tips on surviving the Maycember mayhem! And be sure you’re subscribed to The BAD Mom Show so you don’t miss an episode — new ones drop every Wednesday! 💛   Connect with me: Instagram: @thetheresatodd Facebook: @thetheresatodd Website: www.thetheresatodd.com

Episode 39: Why Your Daughter Triggers You: Healing the Mother-Daughter Relationship

The mother-daughter relationship is complex. Whether you're a girl mom or you have a conflicted relationship with your own mom, this is a topic most women understand, but don't vocalize.   Through my own work, and from working with other women on this topic, it's clear that thing that hits a nerve by your daughter is actually revealing something deeper.   In this episode, I’m having a very honest conversation about the mother-daughter relationship, emotional triggers, trauma, attachment styles, and the generational patterns we carry into motherhood, especially the ones we swore we never would.    We keep it real on The BAD Mom show so I share personal moments with my own daughter and how I began realizing that my reactions weren’t really about her behavior at all—they signaled unresolved pain from my own mother-daughter relationship and how it impacted my beliefs about the type of mom I could be as well as the relationship I would have with my daughter.   We talk about why certain emotions feel so activating, how our childhood experiences shape our parenting, and what it looks like to slow down and get curious versus reacting (survival brain) and falling into a shame spiral after.   This episode is for all of us because, like it or not, there are things from your own relationship with your mom that impact the type of mother you are today. This doesn't negate her efforts or mean you had a 'bad' mom. I love my mom dearly, and yet- there was still pain influencing my leadership. So grab your coffee, take a walk, put in your AirPods, and dig into this very significant relationship.   And if you've feared repeating cycles you desperately want to break, know that you can, there is a better way, and you will.   In this episode, you’ll begin to uncover: ✨ Why certain behaviors in your daughter feel disproportionately triggering ✨ How trauma and attachment styles shape your approach to motherhood ✨ What healing generational patterns actually looks like in real life   and so much more.   If this episode resonated with you, send it to a friend, share it on Instagram (don't forget to tag me @thetheresatodd), and make sure you’re subscribed to The BAD Mom Show.   Let's connect: Instagram: @thetheresatodd Facebook: @thetheresatodd Website: www.thetheresatodd.com

Episode 37: Why Slowing Down Feels So Hard (and Why It’s the Key to Real Growth and Healing)

What if the breakthrough, the energy, the peace, etc you’re craving is on the other side of the very thing you resist the most?   Rest. Stillness. Slowing Down.   In this episode, I’m sharing from a personal revelation God showed me as I've been in a forced season of slowing down after surgery. It checked me- and in the best way (as He seems to do!).   I had this moment where I realized...before HAVING to slow down and heal, I would literally pray for more ease in my day; a slower pace, not being so busy; white space to read and relax and actually ENJOIY my day. But then I get it and what do I do? Fill the down time with projects I've been meaning to get to, wonder how much longer this is going to take, and feel ANTSY.   Why is it so hard to slow down and be CONTENT when we're actually in a season (or moment) of rest?   It highlighted how, despite all the awareness I have, to some degree I still assign more value and personal worth to productivity and performance. There's something uncomfortable about being OK with not being constantly busy! Can you relate?   I bet you can. So get ready to dive into this one with an open heart and mind.   In this episode, we dig into: ✨The tension between craving rest and avoiding it once we have it ✨Why it's hard not to fill every free moment ✨The difference between contentment and complacency ✨How embracing slower seasons can actually accelerate your growth   And how allowing yourself to exhale, not stay busy, and get still might just be the most productive thing you can do today.   There's so much growth happening beneath the surface; healing in stillness, and peace awaiting when you surrender your hurried heart.   If this spoke to you, share this episode with a friend! I know she'll thank you! And I would love it if you could leave a review to help more women see they're not the only ones on the busyness train but there IS a way off.💛   LAST CHANCE! Episode 36: Why You're Not Living Fully Free: Healing Your Story in the Presence of God and Others with Karrie Garcia

There's more to your story than staying stuck in cycles of pain from the past. You think there's something wrong with you but what if it's actually a sign? A yearning from your heart that says, there’s something here that you’ve never given a voice?    In this honest conversation, I sit down with my friend and mentor, Karrie Garcia, and we go deep into the kind of healing most of us would rather avoid—but all of us desperately need. We are talking about the power of your story, the stain of shame, and the power of the broken places we keep hidden-- even while loving God and doing all the “right” things.   What I’ve learned in this journey is that you don’t heal by trying harder—you heal by getting honest with yourself, God, and others.   We unpack the intersection of neuroscience, biblical truth, and relational healing, and why you find yourself stuck in cycles of shame, anger, and performance.   This episode will help you consider: ✨Why do the same emotional cycles keep showing up… no matter how hard you try to change? ✨ What story from your past is blurring your vision for the present and future? ✨Why your anger is actually a good thing   and SO MUCH MORE. If there's any episode to sit quietly and really take in (or replay if you need) this is one of them.   If this episode speaks to you, please SHARE IT with a friend and leave a review to help others find it too.   Be sure to go find Karrie on social and check out her book, Free and Fully Alive. Also, if you're interested in engaging your story and experiencing new levels of freedom, look into all that Freedom Movement and Freedom Academy have to offer.💛   Karrie Garcia is a pastor, licensed life coach, author and CEO, who has been inspiring change in others by boldly sharing her journey to freedom. She founded Freedom Movement, a non-profit, offering workshops, certification programs, and coaching to help others begin their journey to healing and freedom. Karrie's working on her master's in Neuroscience/Trauma to continue helping others heal their story and begin living free and fully alive, right now in the present.   Come join me at Awaken the Heart of Your Home – Spring Session- May 1st! Episode 35: From Labels to Leadership: Rewiring Your Brain and Owning Your Authority as a Mom

What if the biggest thing shaping your home isn’t your schedule, routines, or even your parenting style— but what you believe about yourself and how you show up every day?    In this episode, I’m pulling back the curtain on something we don’t talk about enough: the internal beliefs, the labels we wear—like 'I’m just a mom'—and how those beliefs influence your leadership.   Here’s the truth: You're already leading. The question is- what version of you is doing the leading?   We’re diving into how your story shapes your beliefs, how those beliefs drive your thoughts, reactions, and energy and how that impacts your home. I also share how you can begin rewiring your brain to step into your true authority and lead from identity grounded in faith and conviction.   This isn’t about doing more to prove you're a good leader. It’s about building awareness and believing differently so you can rise up in your mantle of leadership and set the tone of your home with joy and peace.   In this episode, you’ll start to consider: ✨ What if 'just a mom' has been limiting your beliefs about leadership? ✨What parts of your story are driving the way you show up in your home? ✨What would change if you truly saw yourself as the leader you've been chosen to be?   You might know this but really get this truth down in your heart: You are not just a mom, surviving a season, robbed of purpose, or unqualified to lead with boldness. YOU are the heart of your home, and that carries more power and purpose than you've been believing.   If this message resonated, go share it with another woman who needs this reminder! And don’t forget to follow the show so you don't miss an episode. Please leave a review and help more women step into truth, rewrite their story, and lead with confidence. 💛   *Come join us at Awaken the Heart of Your Home – Spring Session- on May 1st!
